Been watching for years and finally started collecting models this year, now waiting for my first set of items to come and this news has only made me more excited, love these super informative videos!
Hi Sam, it's great to have you back for the new year. I wanted to comment a couple of things: - The Accurascale/Hattons P Class has finally started arriving with customers; can't wait to see if you have made a review of them and which model you've got. - I couldn't comment on the Hornby announcement video, but I know for a fact you'll be getting the J15 with the GER livery to review for sure :D
Thanks so much - yeah absolutely - got mine the other day, can't wait to get it out! hahaha I won't confirm nor deny... but YES! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great news update sam, glad to see you back - easy to say ive missed your videos! Looks like some great releases and announcements for 2025, cant wait to see when they come and how they look! Awesome video as always sam!
let's face it, if you are a modeller that doesn't like tension lock couplings you will have switched to Kadee or other coupling types. The transparent bar not photographed with a bright white background might still be quite noticeable. Happy New Year!
In the past six months since I've ordered the new Accurascale P class, I've been keeping a close eye on the company. I must say, their response to the uneven motor fitting in the Andrew Barclays speaks to great levels of class and humility on their part. I'm so much more keen now for Bluebell to arrive! Fingers crossed that Sam has also got an accurascale P class in for comparison! 🤞
the transparent couplings look amazing!!! such a simple solution yet so genius. Its kinda strange no one thought of this earlier. I personally don't use tension-locks because they look so terrible. Now I'm starting to think I've made a bad investment in Kadees lol
Happy New Year to you Sam, keep a watchful eye on new Rapido models.........here in the USA we have been having problems with their North American models..........such as bad lighting, missing parts, broken parts, non running models, etc.
transparent couplers, looks better, issue is clear plastic tends to be more brittle, and over time gets more so - having them as an option though is good
Just had the first of my two P Class locomotives from Accurascale delivered damaged. It was damaged in the factory too and still packaged as the missing part wasn't in the box. Recorded a video with your aged wagons with the lovely Lady Cornelia. They look good in 4k! Please make some more and a matching brake van. I received the Stirling Single No1 and it is fantastic.
Aghh no that's not good - hopefully they sort that out for you ASAP! And thank you so much - I'll have to look at that if it's on UA-cam? A brakevan would be awesome to try :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam. I collect the HO Scale Thomas and Friends Models by Bachmann, and I’ve heard you’d want a model from said range without the eye mechanism. Well, there’s this character named Beau from the Thomas movie “Big World! Big Adventures!” that Bachmann made for HO Scale by reusing old tooling. However, the model is so small that instead of using the eye mechanism, Beau is the first Thomas and Friends model to be lighted. Why not give him a shot sometime?
So, the Stirling Single..widely reckoned to be the best Steam loco model of the last 5 yrs,,hows it going to stackup to some of the favs of the last few years..The Manors, The Mogul, the Hawthorn Leslie...cant wait...
The semi-transparent couplings evidence the ever present tension between the "toy" & the scaled down "model". DCC sound is a further example of such. Personally, DCC control is a great advance but, beyond that, I'm failing to see a worthwhile, cost-benefit result. Such stated, each to their own, so Happy New Modelling 2025 to all, whatever yuz scale or budget or obsession.
In your next Thomas and Friends review or running session video, you should put in some kind of tribute to Britt Allcroft (the person who created the Thomas and Friends TV series), she passed away three weeks ago. I'm thinking of making one of my own, too.
Hope those transparent NEM couplings do get sold as separate accessories as well, both that thin one as well as medium width if possible. Also definitely makes sense as the black hooks look like extended chains when the engine(s) and rolling stock(s) are coupled up together.
It's interesting that after all these decades of the hobby, a manufacturer thought to break the mould and try clear loop couplings. I'm not particularly fussed either way. So long as the coupling works, I'm happy 😁.
It's very interesting - only too happy to see manufacturers trying different things though! Yeah me too really - not desperately fussed either way! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Regarding couplings, if you have a lot of locos and rolling stock, you probably want to keep what they come with, which is usually black tension locks. It may be worthwhile changing to your preferred coupling if you are not a voracious buyer. The transparent NEM tension locks look a little better than the black ones, but still don't do it for me. Even if they start selling the transparent tension locks on there own, there are still non-NEM pocket coupling models around. Personally, I like Kadees a lot more than any tension lock.
Well done for six years of production. You are the go-to for reviews thank you. It’s funny, I looked up to see if you had a review for the Bachmann 66 freightliner poppy edition the other day. Not a criticism, but it was so fast to follow compared with your measured approach now 😄
I’m sorry but you can’t convince me otherwise to not get that united steel works maroon austerity from acurascale. That’s the most beautiful austerity tank I’ve ever seen. Great video as always Sam Kind regards -Harry
Gen austerities look great! Love that fact they are doing the lambton cab! See through couplings looks fun. Wonder what they will look like with scenery!
11:30 I've been designing and 3d printing a rake of flatbeds with warships on them (for anyone curious, I've got Hood, Bismarck, and Enterprise so far) and that van would go perfectly with them.
After a manic day, the return of Sam’s Trains news is very welcome indeed. Thanks for covering some N gauge, may I point to a recent opening of order books for a new Revolution Trains set of N gauge wagons?
2 of my fellow model railway club members had their KR Leader class tonight, one in the actual prototype colour of grey and the other in BR lined Green.
I dunno Sam, I recon a couple of thousand transparent couplings would be an under estimation for your collection, remembering several of your loco’s would need two each, then most of your rolling stock would need two each, it’s probably gonna be more than a couple of thousand
I hope you will be able to review the Stirling Single locomotive from Rapido soon, Sam. It is a fantastic model. Plus, are you planning to review the new LNER Coronation coaches and Observation car from Hornby soon?
I’m looking forward to adding more British equipment to my fleet! I just wish we had more retailers here in America. I’m looking forward to my accurascale pannier and Dapol o gauge rolling stock.
Quality video as always. I really like the look of the clear tension locks. Luckily my collection is fairly small so I could replace the all if I want to.
I am excited to see what you think of the Stirling Single. I have one of the original run, and in my opinion it is one of tge most gorgeous models that we have in OO scale flat out. I have my Leader, and I like it. It rubs great, and tge detailing looks much better than on the Fell.
I’m in a similar KR models situation with Hornby and their M7, I ordered that back in July 2023, which I believe was originally due to be released later that same year and ever since I’ve watched them kick the release date down the road. It’s supposed to be released “Winter 2024/2025” now, which is rapidly approaching coming to pass. I’ve been half tempted to cancel the order just on principal.
I think the transparent couplings are an interesting addition. Speaking of couplings: I‘d love you do a deep dive comparison of all the different NEM couplings
With the first point to be made is that NEM have no standard or design for any couplings, BUT their design and standard for a coupling BOX was a big step forward and had many manufacturers making their own non standardized couplings to fit the NEM coupling boxes. Mostly with low levels of compatibility except the Kadee plug in couplers for NEM boxes.
I like the idea of the transparent couplings, though I do wonder if the material they're made of will be as durable as the black plastic ones, and whether it might be subject to yellowing or embrittlement as a result of exposure to UV, etc. over time.
Those transparent couplings seem like they're a good idea on paper. I saw someone point out they'd be really obvious against the scenery of a layout...but it'd be best to see it when it's not in front of a white backdrop. I gotta appreciate the ambition, though. Personally, I'd say to make it less obvious would be to change the shape of it/make it smaller. I dunno, if anything, that'd be a fun 3D print project.
Yeah that's right - certainly not invisible - but less eye catching from a distance for sure! Yes to redesign them would be better, but then you're faced with reinventing the wheel with a coupling that's not compatible with other stock! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thought I was going to be able to resist buying the Hunslet after buying a P Class and preordering two 57XX models. But I didn't expect that Khaki Hunslet to look so spectacular. As someone looking for more NEM couplings with pockets, I'd be inclined to buy the new transparent ones.
I've been suggesting transparent couplings for some time. It's a shame they haven't gone full transparent - not sure that they would be fiddly. Might look better in N scale buckeye couplings. I remember passing the Seabrook factory - big clouds of crisp-smelling steam to make your mouth water. They also had an unusual coachbuilt sales van which might be worth modelling. It's a shame the Sonic Models website is so out of date - looking at Rails Of Sheffield they show some other interesting 00 locos by them coming along.
P class from Accurascale...arrived today..some had there's last weekend ... Maybe worth it for you to take a look and see how it compares to Hattons...??
Q2 2026 for the Hunslets. Noted, and ready to buy a LNER and a BR 4 version. Transparent couplers, why not, but I prefer Kadee couplings. Superb A5 by Sonic Models, their OO one is a real jewel, love mine ! Bulleid leader : you'll got it before Christmas, but we don't precised which year... I did not made a preorder for her, and I am happy with it. I'm waiting for your review due to issues on the previous KR Model engine, I have a slot in February this year for a buy. Or March... Idea for Dapol : a CIE Irish wagon sold with a bottle of poteen. I'll be a customer for this ! They also did a superb job with the class 88 anyway. Fingers crossed for your Leader ! I'm really hooked on this model due to its originality, and that would be pityfull if KR botched it like their Fell. By the way, the J67 Buckjumper by Accurascale is still announced for Q1 this year. Your forthcoming review of her is welcome.
Nice listening to this as I assemble a section of my layout. I got an operating coal tipple and 7 operating hopper cars that dump from the bottom on a piece of special track. It's funny the cars are all tycos but the action track piece is from Atlas. I bought 1 new old stock, I know exactly what comes in the package. But today I got a Life like brand ho scale coal tipple.
Re. the Accurascale Peckett and it's motor mount issues; we have a P class "Bluebell" on order, I hope it doesn't suffer the same problem. Have you heard of any probs with the "P"?
Oooof, don't get me started on KR Models preorder......I ordered and paid for their Shay in 2021???? How long? The HR103 is top of the class. All the best. Brian @ The Angels
When you do a review of Leader, will you do a version with the loco blurred or pixilated so as to not scare those faint of heart or with a sense of aesthetic beauty
I think the transparent couplings accurascale are doing are interesting, not sure I'd use them. Again with my ever growing collection the number needed will outweigh the adoption. Surprised ellis clark went with UV printing, thought the standard was tampo printing, also a shame they aren't doing the quin-art rakes.
I have a DCC sound Jones Goods and it is the most detailed locomotive I've ever owned. As my first british snd rapido locomotive i love it. One of there maroon 15xx locomotives is on its way to me now. Otherwise i have some bachmann coaches and a webb coal tank. Love them all.
Hi Sam, I would like to request your help in clarifying something. I noticed that Locomotion Models are also taking pre-orders for Rapido's J52s. I was looking at the model of No.1247 and the description mentions "New from Rapido" yet the product codes are different. Rapido's DCC ready model is 958012 while Locomotion's 552486. Aren't they supposed to be the same? Is Rapido making a special version just for Locomotion?
Two of my model Gunpowder Vans have been swapped for better coloured ones. I now have an N Gauge LMS Gunpowder Van, didn't want too many black ones, and a grey Rapido L & Y Gunpowder Van. If you dare, you can watch my new Gunpowder Van video, in which I've added the loud explosion from your Gunpowder Van review video. Review any stinky diesels, be prepared to suffer the consequences.
A good video here Sam, some interesting articles, for me 2025 has got off to a great start, to start if with I have had my first new addition of this year and it’s my KR Models Bulleid Leader, a model o have been waiting for for quite some time, probably not as king as everyone else but I have waited for it for some time, I received mine on last Saturday and it is a stunning model from KR, while there are comments from the so called bulled leader experts KR have managed to capture the presence and strangeness of the locomotive very well and I love mine, when it comes to hornbys new range I said in your stream yesterday what I intend to get but have got on pre order the tavern coach pack in crimson and cream, not sure I of I mentioned this one already but I manage to add another A4 to my fleet just before Christmas, I managed it get 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley part of the great gathering range, might look at the Stirling winglets myself but I would want it in NRM condition so if I get one it will be the locomotion models version, decent video overall Sam
2:52 A wee bit of a solution looking for a problem, it seems to me. And yet, it just might be the tentative step along a new line heading to the perfect, perfectly simple solution, at last. If we can have these industry standard removable jobbies in clear plastic, here's hoping that the next stage in the development is to rethink them and build on this cloak of invisibility. Roll on the model version of the real life thing with all the complexity of its oily, clanking, chain links and pressure pipes, coupled maybe with this idea of transparent plastic providing the strength and solidity to magically hold it all together. Something for you inventive 3D printer fans perhaps, come the next wet weekend.
I think the transparent couplings accurascale are doing have potential to take off. I do actually like them.
A small manufacturer of N gauge wagons used to supply them with transparent Elsie couplers.
I like them aesthetically, but I replace those types of couplings with the European style that is compatible with Marklin.
Been watching for years and finally started collecting models this year, now waiting for my first set of items to come and this news has only made me more excited, love these super informative videos!

4:32 - Kudos to Accurascale. Good customer service. So sadly lacking these days. But they went beyond the curve and did it right. Well done.
I was suffering from withdrawal symptoms with you gone 😢
Me too, I had had a hard time falling asleep. 🥲

@Gatherleymodeller.LOL😅

The transparent couplings are a nice touch
Yeah it's a fun innovation isn't it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I like the idea; hopefully, it catches on.
Those wagons from Dapol are very tempting! Nice video Sam!

Sounds about right

I think the transparent couplings accurascale are doing are interesting, not sure I'd use them. Again with my ever growing collection the number needed will outweigh the adoption. Surprised ellis clark went with UV printing, thought the standard was tampo printing, also a shame they aren't doing the quin-art rakes.
do you know when exactly the accurascale 57xx and the sonic a5 (oo) will be released?
No not exactly - though I know Accura are hopeful that the 57xx will be soon!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I'm not too keen on the transparent coupling idea. Maybe it's a pity that the Hornby-Dublo/Peco coupling died...
magnets are the way forward with couplings
Don't think that I've ever seen a Packet of Crisps come with a Wagon b4!!! 🤔🚂🚂🚂
Still waiting for the Locomotion Stirling Single and KR Bellerophon. There seems to be delays across the board with manufacturers
Yeah delays are pretty normal - not heard any update on the Bellerophon lately, have you?
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I would love to get the Rapito Stirling Single
That sounds nice Kelly - be very careful with those!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hey Sam did you pre order a hattons p class as the one I pre ordered has just arrived! Would love to see a video on it!
Yeah I did!! Hoping to do a video on that asap!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I can't wait for you to review the GNR Stirling Single and comparing it to the Bachmann Emily lol.
I can't wait either - it looks incredible!!
HI sam. my gbrf 66 in tt was a bit light on one end. did you find the same? caroline. ps have 3 on Acton and more to follow.
That's interesting - I didn't notice that no but will look into it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Can't wait to get my german series BR 08 1001 steam locomotive in Scale 1.
The 88 looks good
I think so too! :D
A flesh-coloured train with 8008 on the side? Do they come in pairs?
I said this in your hornby video but bachman just released a huge 2-6-6-4 loco
Hornby missed out? They did announce a new saint.
And Lots of Beatles Rubbish 😅😂😅
2:52 A wee bit of a solution looking for a problem, it seems to me.
And yet, it just might be the tentative step along a new line heading to the perfect, perfectly simple solution, at last.
If we can have these industry standard removable jobbies in clear plastic, here's hoping that the next stage in the development is to rethink them and build on this cloak of invisibility.
Roll on the model version of the real life thing with all the complexity of its oily, clanking, chain links and pressure pipes, coupled maybe with this idea of transparent plastic providing the strength and solidity to magically hold it all together.
Something for you inventive 3D printer fans perhaps, come the next wet weekend.
there is also an 80 anniversary box car in thomas and friends skin
Are you getting any of the Quad-arts?
I hadn't planned on it due to the price - but it's one I'm considering!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
