Watched this Saturday. Went outside broke down an old trolling motor, used an old kayak paddle, put these together and perfect! Thanks a million! It works great on my bass hound 10.2!
I used the same idea but I used a old trolling motor shaft and drilled a hole and put a screw and nut through the top and bottom of the shaft and put a bullnose rudder on it that I purchased from ebay. it works fine.
I have an extra trolling mortar mount so I’m going to try using the collapsible oar since they came with my boat when I bought it on marketplace. Excited to give it a try
Well I'll be a son of a gun. I been looking into making a skeg (didn't know what it was called) and I have all the stuff you showed here. The paddle and the hinge assembly. Thank you so much. My Jon boat tends to turn to the sides when slowing down, hopefully this will help
Just curious how the oar ended up working for you as a skeg now that you have used it for a while. I just bought a used pelican 10e and was looking to do the same thing. Thank you
Hey Kevin. The oar worked very good, actually better than I thought it would. I’m actually doing another tiny boat now, the pond prowler and have done the exact thing on it as well. Thanks for the question.

well i finally took my jon boat with this skeg and it worked.
That’s awesome. Yeah it works for sure and is super affordable!
Also meets the coast requirement for having a paddle onboard!
Haha!! Yes it does and out of the way storage lol!
Thanks for sharing, most simple setup I’ve seen yet. I have Sun Dolphin coming in next week, this will be on the list to do.
Anthony Goude you will LOVE the sundolphin and this skeg will for sure do the trick. Tight lines my friend✌🏻
You think that would work for your bass raider type boats?
Works just fine on my Pelican Bass Raider
