I couldn't agree more with this video. I hate when people say "Oh, this is white people music" or "Oh, this is black people music blah blah blah" Like stfu. Music has no color or race. Music is for everyone. I swear people are ignorant. Great video, man.
Nicholas Nevola Good luck telling that to hard-headed ass Pro-blacks who want to criticize you or question your intelligence just because you like certain white artists. But don't worry about them; you do YOU.
I hate that argument. It's like I am obligated to act a certain way that is deemed acceptable by my race. I don't remember signing a contract after my birth that I'll act black, talk black and live black. My blackness ends with my skin.
Great video @misanthropikone! I have felt the same way growing up listening to alternative music (Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Folk, etc) that blacks did not tend to listen too! Music for me allows me to experience all vibrations, feelings, thoughts, etc! I have learned to not listen to limited minded people and I just did me! Thank you for this video!!
I grew up in the MTV era. I was listening to White Snake, Twisted Sister, RUN DMC, LL COOL J, Beastie Boys, Phil Colins, Hall & Oates, Whatever I thought sounded good.
Great video. Blacks do need to broaden their horizons. Have you ever noticed that in the 80s, there were some black r&b singers crossing over, experimenting different genres and collaborating with white artists? Some were criticized by black fans because they appeared to be "selling out".
I had to show this to my kids, man. I could not phrase this any better myself, so I was like "come in here and see what this guy is saying, because it's everything to do with what matters when you love music"... Fucking phenomenal, man. Love your vids brother, and your love for music is infectious. People who disagree with you on this are those who don't like music as much as they like being racists...
I'm glad this issue is being brought to light. Do you know what I call these type of black folk you're discussing in this video? The Negro Police!! It's like their whole purpose in life is to seek out other black people who don't fit the stereotype of being a "nigga". I used to get called out on the type of hip hop I listened to, let alone other genres. To wrap this up, I've never had this issue with anyone that is white, if anything, if they found out I was into a artist/band/genre they're into it invited interesting discussion.
Do you have a video talking about your thoughts on the cultural separatism you mentioned? Are you planning to make a video about it if you dont have one already? I would like to hear you go more in depth
I respect you so much for this video. I've caught shit my whole life for liking different genres to the point it almost feels like I'm living a double life. I'm a Colombian dude that can listen to Sabbath, G rap, P funk, all in one sitting / drive. I still remember picking up a Deftones album at the store and someone stating how they thought it was odd that I wasn't going for rap or Reggaeton based on my race. I stated that reggaeton is trash, and that the Deftones frontman's name is Chino Moreno. After this the guy stayed silent in a stupor (They didn't know about the singer's name). This is the reason I always respected Outkast at award shows. Whenever they were asked which groups they were looking forward to seeing perform, they usually stated someone from another genre (The Hives). Seeing Scarface showing his eclectic musical interests on Cribs was also good to see. I wish people would take off their blinders and venture out to new stuff, its quite a character builder.
Mate, you have such an amazing attitude to music! I love it, I have always been a huge supporter of all types of music, black, white, rock, r'n'b, souls, hip hop, jazz, rap, you name it I listen. Great, great video. Thanks and happy Christmas and wishing you fantastic new year 2017, all the best from Manchester, UK, cheers James. P.S. Long time subscriber to your channel.
Music has always been my saving grace. I can always find a song that expresses how I am feeling at a by moment in my life. Labeling music is as you say "white or "black" is very stupid. Pimp slap. lol
Shoot I listen to (90's Europe) electronic, trance, break beats. I used to hear that type of music while playin video games like Need for Speed, Zone of the enders and many others. As a kid I fell in love with that music at first listen and gravitated towards it. I just couldn't help it. Hip Hop and R&B was what I was brought up around in my surroundings but it wasn't the only genre of music I liked Btw speaking or rock/metal I just discovered a black metal band by the name of *Living Colour* and they dope as fk. Skindred is another I've known for a while and their lead singer is black, used to listen to them in highschool
Bruh, you can enjoy any type of music you want, regardless of what race the artists are. In fact, I have so many Madonna songs its crazy. Furthermore, if you were to see my music collection, I have quite a few songs in the hundreds that the average black man doesn't even care for.
It doesn't even occur to me that Emily Wells or Sufjan Stevens are white until some mouth breather catches me listening to one of them and points it out. Btw, were you at the Slipknot show in Camden a few months ago? It was amazing
I got a slipknot tee and a five finger death punch tee. The people outside the black race compliment me, every black person who see me with these shirts they look at me funny
+Misanthropik One : Well, now, This Expatriate Chicagoan KNOWS who shall be in my Will & Testament to get my 3.556 CD's, m8 Goodies by Sadistic Mika Band (Japan), Triumvirat (Germany), Om Kalsoum (Egypt), Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon (US Blues), Edgar Broughton Band, Babe Ruth, Be-Bop Deluxe, Pete Brown and Piblokto! (British Progressive Rock), Beethoven, Brahms, The Bachs, The Mozarts (Classical), TV2, Imperiet, Rosa Koerberg, (Swedish Pop), The Young Gods (Industrial [Belgium]), and "old-fogeys" (LOL!) like Scorpions, Metallica, REM, ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, *ad infinitum* As The Much Regretted Frank Zappa said in his autobio : **IT IS ALL GOOD MUSIC!**
People are who are that into music generally like many genres. Here's where my white privilege comes into play, and this will be the only time that I'll openly admit that there is such a thing as white privilege, because this is the only way I have noticed that it even exists: When comparing black people and white people who do music either professionally in some sort or as a serious hobby, they both like many genres of music and are racially agnostic about it all. However, white people don't face the social pressure of racial rectitude like black people do. Even in the white alt-right, where one would expect some measure of conformity and the wielding of that pressure against those inside the tribe that like non-white music, that pressure is nowhere near as stifling as the pressure that blacks who openly tout non-black music face from other blacks.
i think gore is the true successor to white pony. that jerry cantrell solo on phantom bride is godly. as for music in general i love it all. hip hop, alt, metal, noise, electronic, and singer songwriter stuff. hell, even some country.
I think you and Myke both are ignoring the glaring fact that White industry CEO's, agents, etc... created these racialized music boxes. Just watch an episode of Unsung to see how the White music industry has (and continues to) segregate music on basis of race. Of course the majority of black people who have bigger issues to deal with than music to focus on this niche aspect of American culture will fall for the okey doke. Both you and myke should explain to your fans of every color how these boxes were created, enforced, and re-enforced, then let's educate the people instead of blaming them.
Keith Griffin Lol. Are you kidding me? Rock music was originated by black artists. You can easily research that. If "white music", whatever that is, was trying to segregate races, why would that fact be so easy to dig up. Yeah, I think I'll continue to blame those to fuckin lazy to either look shit up and/or open their minds a bit.
MAO. I never said blacks didn't invent Rock music. ALL of this stuff could be easily looked up, so no need for your video or Myke's for that matter (if you're gonna seriously go that route). I think you're misreading my original post in a major way. I didn't speak of "White Music" I spoke of "The White Music Industry." Read the book "Hit Men" or look the stuff up (to take your words and mirror them). *Google: "History of racism in the music industry" and have at it. If you want to go the "I'm superior than these lazy niggas" route, be my guest. I simply offered a more balanced and less shitty way to educate your people, fam. Still a fan (disagreement makes us both human). Peace!
"I don't make black music, I don't make white music, I make hiphop music for hiphop kids" - Masta Ace

Music is not defined by skin color
Great video @misanthropikone! I have felt the same way growing up listening to alternative music (Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Folk, etc) that blacks did not tend to listen too! LMAO, no worries man - sadly, they're kinda used to it from my trash mouth.

People assume that metal is racist.

Demetri J No. I wasn't at that show. I've seen Slipknot before though. They are sick!!!

i guess a close minded person would say such thing or just have hate toward a race and their music.
People are who are that into music generally like many genres.
