How to wood burn images and make a professional level walking stick that doubles as a piece of art. It's easy, customizable and anybody can do it. The technique can be used on all types of different wood pieces, not just sticks. Examples of other applications are given in the video.

Can I use a soldering iron instead of the wood burner

I've never really gotten into soldering but my wood burning kit came with soldering material. I suppose if it's a hot knife kind of tool, it should work. Only one way to find out! Experiment on a piece of scrap wood.

Pay attention to the type of wood. Pine is MUCH MUCH easier to burn than say
..poplar

You're right. The hardness of the wood totally makes a difference. Harder wood is harder to burn.
