They would give the utmost a living being can give to you, not only their will to win, but their will to die for the victory of the group they fight for. Do you really think they just like dying? They like winning, even if they die they still consider this a victory for their kind. (edit: typos)
He wasn’t thinking about the movie while saying this, you do know that the this battle actually took place right? It was a last ditch effort with the hope to break the Allies. In reality is was a suicide run for most of these boys, they had no equipment, no fuel and no hope and yet for Germany they went anyway and died. You can call them racist and murderers but they sure had balls of steels charging into this battle knowing full well it was going to be for nothing except death. The conversation between Robert Shaw as Colonel Hessler and his general would likely have been overheard by the young Panzer commanders waiting in line. When Hessler doubts their willingness to do what is expected of them, clearly they overheard. The blond soldier with the Iron Cross began singing Der Panzerlied to let Hessler know that they pledged their lives and loyalty just as when the general said "They are ready to die for you. Can you ask more?" This scene is not a glorification of German national socialism. It is a celebration of the warrior ethic that begins with the very first professional army.

And to return we will no more,
Back to home,

An important distinction, if you ask me.

Hollywood script !
Most of the times lives have to be sacrificed to win. Men give their lives for others to live. Then: Everybody wants to win, so if they would only be "ready to win", that's a sentence without any info... but these guys even go further. They would give the utmost a living being can give to you, not only their will to win, but their will to die for the victory of the group they fight for. Do you really think they just like dying? They like winning, even if they die they still consider this a victory for their kind. (edit: typos)

It is a film
He wasn’t thinking about the movie while saying this, you do know that the this battle actually took place right? It was a last ditch effort with the hope to break the Allies. In reality is was a suicide run for most of these boys, they had no equipment, no fuel and no hope and yet for Germany they went anyway and died. You can call them racist and murderers but they sure had balls of steels charging into this battle knowing full well it was going to be for nothing except death. In reality most soldiers don’t fight because they hate what is front of them, they fight and die because they love what is behind them.

Very objective comment.
Well said! One of the best scenes in the movie. It does transcend the MERE political. And - I saw this on "regular" TV recenty. There is always some editing - usually to allow dozens of advertisements - but this time - they cut this entire scene. NOPE - grabbed the remote - off to something else.
Agreed. In addition, the blond soldier got the courage & confidence back in the Panzer Commanders heart. He really was unhappy about the situation in the scene. The "bois" took him by his pride and honor.
