I just dealt with this issue. I am the guilty culprit who got it on to tight. I took duct tape, folded it in half with sticky side out and wrapped it around the filter. I then used the oil filter tool to unscrew it. Just something to try before punching a hole in it!
I simply start the engine and crack it loose and then stop the engine the walk off the filter the rest of the way. The oil pressure will stiffen the filter body
