As a 31 year old Registered Nurse, I took a job in Baltimore, Maryland for nine months as a travelling nurse from Canada. Once I arrived in Baltimore, there was a one bedroom apartment waiting for me and set up by the travelling nurse company. Well, I needed a haircut before I started work. That was my plan to get a haircut in the states. So I basically looked at the Yellow Pages and just recognized that one of these haircut places was on a street that I recognized so I went there. Dude, I've been a hairstylist for many years, and I think you did an excellent job. I'm white and rivaled my black contemporaries when coming to bald fades. As long as your passion is there, and want to do awesome haircuts, AND not mess anyone up, you'll be fine. Also educate the client about their hair. GOOD JOB !!!
Agreed! Amazing job! Back in the 90s I lived in the hood in a small town in Arkansas and a friend of mine and I showed up to a local barber. A nice old guy we knew. Didnt think about it. My friend said, “You go first.” The man turned me opposite the mirror during the whole cut. Then brushed me off and turned me toward the mirror. When the barber was done he said, “Hope you like it. I’ve never cut a white boy’s hair before.” By today’s style it would have been legit. Back in the 90s? When the look was like what you see on the show Friends? I looked like the basketball player Darin Williams. Got so much shade! Haha The man said to my friend, “You next?” And my friend was like, “Nah..I’m good.” Haha
LOL the goal for ANY white person is to "rival" blacks at anything they create to feel superior......see Eminem fans......smh typical. Took you long enough we only started doing current hair haircuts since the 1980's.....(40 years).....lol
His later work is suspect , I see a BIG line no real blend … he needs to stop doing videos and go back to the drawing board.. I’m a real barber , that looks suspect. Anyone can cut hair , but it doesn’t make you a REAL Barber.
Believe me we people of COLOUR can manage white folks hair better than you can handle ours. No offence. How come? Because many of us have your type of hair. White ancestry. 😊
My son has always had a black barber… I don’t understand what the big deal is, this guy can cut hair amazingly…. I understand white and ethnic hair is different. But when you love something it shows in your work. ❤ Good job son 💯💯💯♥️
@@starlightrocks7 Eh I think you may be confusing the fact that I think white and black people are both equally guilty of assuming neither one can cut each-others hair type. I think it’s more about that then anyone caring about skin color. If I know a black barber can cut my kids straight hair then I’m totally fine with letting them do so. I could give two shits about their color…it’s how good a person is at cutting hair that matters.
But I wish barbers paid attention to different hairstyles for different ethnicities it’s pretty segregated right now and the biggest issue is because this idea that there’s nothing to learn cause “we’re all the same”

True! My son inherited every single cowlick possible. Plus, it is very curly. Our "black" barber was the only one that could get his hair to look right. She was fantastic.
Don't know why you needed to make "everybody" a racial implication. You would never catch me doing that in a neighborhood full of people that aren't white like I am. Do you know how stupid I would look if I had completely straight hair and went into a barber shop in Greece and tried to subliminally complain that most of the barbers aren't experienced in working with completely straight hair?
@@razztasticreally ? I’m in love with my biracial grandbabies n my son in law is like my own son from another mama. So over these racial issues. God created all of us n last time I checked we all bleed red. Elderly mamaw here. ❤
@@razztastici don't think the OP means it like that. No one complained, it is true that not everyone’s hair the same and there has to be some differences in how you treat hair. For example, hair bumps can happen to folks who are not black, but people with extremely curly hair are more prone to them. I've heard white stylists say this too. The best ones know how to do everyone’s hair and the ones that I've found were recommended to me by other people of color who did have bad experiences with the way their hair was done. No need to be sensitive about race. Just because you want to ignore differences, doesn't mean they aren't there, but mental maturity would call for being able to acknowledge differences and still be ok with them.
Loved everything about this, especially the fact that the young man knew what he wanted, and you gave him exactly that!!! Your smiles, the two of you, warmed my heart!!! ❤
Keep up the excellent work, young man.👏🏾 While an undergrad at OSU, I needed my hair done badly, yet knew NOTHING about the area. The only stylist in the shop I stumbled upon was white. Only black stylists had previously done my hair. I almost walked out, but she said she knew how to do black hair. I didn’t believe her & was terrified at the thought of how my hair might turn out… but my hair was in desperate need of service. She hooked my hair 🆙 like nobody’s business‼️🙌🏾
I'm a white female, and had been to numerous white hair salons...never satisfied, and the price!! Recently went to a salon and they had a black hair stylist. Was hesitant at first, thinking she could not possibly know how to cut straight hair. Had no choice though and when she was done I could not have been more pleased. She did a fantastic job. Needless to say, I now do my hair with her and no one else. I love the way she does my hair!!
I’m a white female that works stupid hours and had braids for years done in an African salon… I loved their work, super cool ladies, so much fun, but then after three years of braids white women started yelling at me on the street accusing me of being racist, it became really disruptive, so I no longer go to my beloved African salon, they lost me as a client due to absolutely no fault of their own. Still makes me sad.

When my husband and I were in the military, he went to a specific black barber on base. As did everyone. When that barber got stationed else where, I swear I thought a person died. So many sad faces. My husband griped about how bad his hair looked for a year until he found another old man off base that did an excellent job. He referred his friends and then that mans hole in the wall place got busy. We both left the military and moved away. He quickly found a barber. Talking about Paul this, Paul that. When I finally met Paul, I was shocked to find Paul was white. My white husband preferred black barbers cause he has a messed up cow lick and they did his hair right with that and the fade. It's all about skill but ethnic barbers deal with all types of hair textures which make them exceptional. Loved this video.
@michellec4919 not all barbars deal with all hair types. I'm sorry it is what it is. It's not a race issue. Equally not all female hairdressers deal with all hair types excellent to the ones who does

I’m an almost 50yo white guy. I’ve been going to the black barbershop across the street from my office for about 5 years now. I get the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten from those guys. There was a little bit of a learning curve on my part. I learned to not put pomade/gel in my hair before going and to come in with my hair dry.
Do you think a girl would be welcome there? I need short hair for medical reasons and am always afraid that i would be intruding, or might be judged. I should just go in there and find out, but it feels like i'd be crashing a fort 😂.
Amazing to see you in action. This is more of what the world needs right now. No wars looming. Just watching a young man get an awesome cut. Just chillin'. You are incredibly talented. No wonder he wanted to go to you. Lookin' SHARP!!!
My Dad was a barber for 45+ years. He's gone now. You did a great job! Changing different textures & cultures is a hard thing to master. You should be proud. 😊
My bf asks me to cut his hair sometimes. I have a clipper set with the guards... I need to watch this video several times to learn his method of going from 1 to 2 and then blending! His explanation of guidelines was wonderful! It came out great!
We were taught in cosmetology how to cut/color/ highlight different hair textures/ethnicities. It doesnt matter. Create a masterpiece, make someone look and feel better. Great job!❤
I disagree with the hair is hair. My hair is very thick and curly, my siblings all have very thin hair. It takes forever for me to fix my hair & takes 4 1/2 hours to get it cut and colored. Obviously, my profile pic shows my “Karen” hair that is now right below my waist. My sisters can have their hair colored and fixed by the time I’m just starting to blow dry mine.
I'm a 76 years old white guy...I'm also a drummer. There is not a whit of difference between my art and yours. It's passion. So impressed...I don't care what kind of job you have...if your passionate about how you do it, you are an artist. BTW...when I say drummer, I mean I was a chemical lab technician most of my life and mostly an out of work drummer...the artist couldn't pay the bills but clearly you're gonna deliver the goods.
You are really an artist in your trade. The kid said he wanted more off and not in his face but you knew better than to start with that until he saw it. You can always take a little more off but can't put it back on! You said, " I just..." quite a bit which, I think, shows how humble you are about your skills. That moment of "I just" is where you instinctively know what to do that can't be taught but learned by a LOT of practice and intuition. You definitely have a gift! This doesn't even begin to talk about how much one haircut can do to bridge a gap to create some unity in the community. I don't consider myself old but even 35 or 40 years ago, it didn't even occur to me that I, as a white kid, could go to a black barber. Back in the day when I had hair, it would have been an honor to go to an artist like you. Keep up the great work!
I have to admit that when you did the area around the neck and above the ear, then faded so far up, I was concerned it wasn't going to look good. However, I was VERY delightfully surprised with the end work! ❤ BTW, your scissor work was perfection! 😊
as a cosmetologist that loves to fade I have mad respect for this video. I try not to ever put a line into my fade so I dont have to work so hard to get them out and it is much harder on straight hair. Plus this young man has a medium texture that can really show scissor marks and clipper tracks. Awesome job.
I appreciate this video I'm biracial (mom black, dad white) I married a white man . We have two sons, one's hair is straight with a Lil wave to it, the other has curly hair like me. I'd send them both to you with no hesitation after seeing this video! Great Job!

I am Caucasian but have African American textured curly hair. I've never enjoyed a cut and style as much as the one I received from a black barber. He was willing to take me right as the pandemic was ending when other shops were not open. I am so picky about my hair but this guy (Trevor) is now my permanent hair tech. I am usually the only white person in the shop and almost always the only female, but all make me feel welcome when I enter. He just about has me talked into a short cut for summer next year. My hair is really long and thick and pulls on my head. We will see but if I do, it will def be Trev!
If he says it's going to look good.... DO IT! He knows your head better than you do, because he can see it from ALL angles. Please stop listening to the voices in your head. That's just your ego being stubborn, trust me.... Mine does it too, but I'm about to go s.h.o.r.t. just as soon as I can find a pretty wig for when I " "miss the mess"!!!😂 Let him work his magic on you!❤
Bro that was the nicest fade I've ever seen done and to do this on a white person's hair you have some very talented hands. I'm a white dude and I know how hard it is to work with because I have fine hair and the way you worked with his hair was amazing. Excellent job!!!!!
Kids don’t see color or pass judgement. They just want to feel safe with their cut and styling. A haircut makes me feel good as an adult and confident. A new haircut as a kid made me feel invincible and for a moment the happiest person on earth. I’m glad you could feel that love. You are able to give someone confidence and a sense of conquering the world. We come to barbers in our best, and unfortunately worst moments. But we feel peace when we’re in either.
Great Job!! I’ve been cutting hair for 28 yrs now and the only thing I do when it comes to shear work is that I part the hair at the crown. I work from back to front. Once it’s at the length you want it cut and crossed referenced any stragglers, I repeat the process and cut the tips at an angle (depending on how defined you want the texture). It hasn’t failed me yet but there are great videos out there on performing texture cuts. Keep up the great work man bro 🙏🏼🤙🏼👊🏼
I’ve been cutting hair since I was 18. I’m 36 now and the day that my client said that her coworker thought her barber was black was the day I could say I would die happy. I literally waited forever for that compliment. I also had a Mexican client who thought that I was a dude and also color because I’m so good😂 awesome. Keep doing what you do and I can tell that you like it and that’s all that you need.

I went to a black hair salon when I was in high school next door to my parents' shop. I had long hair curl wavy past my shoulders I'm Caucasian/ Spanish decent. They did a excellent job all the time. They also used dark hair gel in my hair to slick it back that I've never used before I always used clear gel but it was terrible when it flaked. It looked like dandruff. I used dark gel all the time after that. Now I sell it in my shop 😊 I have a beauty supply shop😊
Hair oils work well for slicking hair back but they have no “ sticking power” .Mizani ( sp?) makes some products I’ve tried that are like a creamy gel and oil mixed together that have liked but I haven’t tried slicking hair back with it but it’s great for curls and controlling frizz that curly hair gets. Chi products make good oils also something Blackseed ciil that is lite creamy gel type product…. Sorry I can’t remember the names exactly…..getting old sucks but check them out if you get a chance
🗣️ Get the black hair gel by ecostyer, it doesn’t stain, flake or cause skin eczema! It’s so good ,you don’t need to use it every day, either. Thank me later! ❤

Excellent job! I’ll be 74 on Sunday, and was a hairdresser from my teens, into my 50’s. When you turned the camera on yourself, I was amazed at how young you look. I’m an old white lady that appreciates your talent. God bless you young man. You’re a great role model.
Happy birthday, Blueiz🎉
Same story here, only 64! Still addicted to hair. What a great cut. I clipper my husband and son but have never been able to get a real tight fade. Good instructions, thank you!
Yes. I’m 62. I was also amazed at seeing this barber was so young. Really talented. Gifted.
Happy birthday 🥳🥳

38 years in Cosmetology , excellent job! First time watching.
Dude, I've been a hairstylist for many years, and I think you did an excellent job. I'm white and rivaled my black contemporaries when coming to bald fades. At first people were shocked I could do it. But I can tell you it's a God given talent that everyone doesn't have.
Stop lying to him …. From the start he’s wrong… He went to high from the beginning that haircut is Amateur at best.
Well, you're one of the few that don't mind.
@@Katya.Shishkyl24 White folks do not go to the barber shops in the hood unless they live in the hood, and that's a very small ratio.
What is "ethnic hair"???
@@BS-zt4xp Not straight hair.
It doesn’t matter what ethnic group you identify with it only matters that you are a great barber!
It does matter be yourself he thinks he's Jason with the cut right situation he turns back into Logan and you go to jail
But I wish barbers paid attention to different hairstyles for different ethnicities it’s pretty segregated right now and the biggest issue is because this idea that there’s nothing to learn cause “we’re all the same”
@simontilbey I started reading and stop f what you're talking about I can sum it up in 2 words "culture vultures" you're fascinated with us so you want to identify as 1 of us when you coyod never be ! You have no culture of your own you steal everybody else's from haircuts spaghetti tvs in cars all fly clothing styles etc etc if you were to be yourself you'd be just as your skin color BLAND foh go get a mullet and chill
True! My son inherited every single cowlick possible. Plus, it is very curly. Our "black" barber was the only one that could get his hair to look right. She was fantastic.
@simontilbey you forgot Brown (me) and Green (Captain Kirk's Alien Honey)
Black barbers are the real masters. They can do everybody’s hair, while “ everybody” can’t do ours.
You sound like a retard
That’s because your “hair” is probably ridiculous.
This is the result when you are a great barber. No matter who your client is, you always get the job done exactly like the client wanted.
Well, u know how it can be sometimes. I too, have had my hair cut in an all white salon. I know what u mean.
I agree. This guy can cut. Period.

Loved everything about this, especially the fact that the young man knew what he wanted, and you gave him exactly that!!! Your smiles, the two of you, warmed my heart!!! ❤
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Of course they are professionals they learn how to cut all types of hair. It doesn't matter what color you are.
Facts
I’m a white female that works stupid hours and had braids for years done in an African salon… I loved their work, super cool ladies, so much fun, but then after three years of braids white women started yelling at me on the street accusing me of being racist, it became really disruptive, so I no longer go to my beloved African salon, they lost me as a client due to absolutely no fault of their own. Still makes me sad.
Crazy thing is. In hair school straight hair is covered more than any other hair texture.
@@janedoe4471You should have more confidence in yourself and in who you are. They say imitation is the finest form of flattery. I wonder when that went away. The snowflakes are jealous. You lost a precious memory, experience and friends because you listen to others who don't know what they're talking about. Go back to your African salon, with your African friends and hair stylists and enjoy your hairstyle. Ignore the haters. ❤
This brought tears to my eyes because 1. You are bringing all kinds of folks together and 2. That young man looked so handsome! Excellent work, my friend! 🥹🥹👍🏾
Yes, I see two beautiful people at 8.40.
All of us deal with all different hair types, had nothing to do with being black or white....smh
@michellec4919
not all barbars deal with all hair types. I'm sorry it is what it is. It's not a race issue. Equally not all female hairdressers deal with all hair types excellent to the ones who does
@@michellec4919that’s not true. Unfortunately I’ve taken my nephews for a haircut to a white barber and they said they don’t/can’t do their hair type. I found it very ignorant.
I loved how you talked us through his haircut. Thank you, I was wishing to find someone to get my haircut.. I've only have found one hair stylist..since then no luck..been cutting it myself. Now I'm 77 and having trouble with shaking hands.
@@ladyboss2383 It can be all about limited training and not having to deal w/ many clients that have a hair type they usually deal w/. I've been turned away from male barber shops for having long hair and they didn't want to deal w/ it. I'm also seeing a lady hairdresser in here admit she only had to do one afro cut in her 30 yr career. She nervously did it anyway and took her time. She was glad they had patience w/ her needing extra time and were happy w/ the results.

All black hair isn’t the same. Hair is hair, it’s your skill that makes the difference 👍🏾🔥
Hair is absolutely NOT hair!
@staciagrant4786 hair is absolutely is hair!
Everybody in my immediate family has a different hair grade. Black Americans are a unique mix of everyone in the world. Not many people like us.
All (insert word or phrase) isn't the same. It's the color of the emojis that make the difference. ;)
Im a passionate bummer
Stick to the lab
Being a woman I usually only watch women's hair videos, but that was interesting to see. Still looks crazy complex so good job.
You hooked little DUDE up! Great Job!! 👏🏽 💙🔥💯💯💯
BTW, your scissor work was perfection! 😊
as a cosmetologist that loves to fade I have mad respect for this video. I try not to ever put a line into my fade so I dont have to work so hard to get them out and it is much harder on straight hair. Plus this young man has a medium texture that can really show scissor marks and clipper tracks. Awesome job.
My mother was also a cosmetologist. When she went to school you learn how to do all hair. 😅

Wow! That's interesting that now you make a living in that industry. Cool stuff.
What is dark hair gel, who makes it I am stylist in New Mexico and never heard of it but it sounds interesting to me
yea the black hair gel just ruined the pillow case....
