  • Hey everyone! Thank you for tuning in to this week's video on satin vs. silk pillowcases. I've seen satin pillowcases everywhere but I am going to expose the TRUTH about them in this video. Plus, I will be investigating the benefits of silk pillowcases by sleeping on half a silk pillowcase and half of another material for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. Check back in two weeks for the update!

    Satin is not a material. It's a weave. It's the pattern the threads are woven in to make the fabric. You can buy silk satin, or you can buy polyester satin. Silk and polyester are the fibers; satin is the weave.

      I am so confused between silk and satin. Like silk is natural and more long lasting, hence less wasteful but so very cruel. On the other hand, satin is mostly polyester or some other synthetic fabric which is very polluting and is also not long lasting and is not that convenient to use as sheets but it does not require to boil alive silkworms in their cocoons.

    People who are ethically vegan would choose a satin over silk pillowcase because they do not want to use an animal-derived product. Truthfully, my hair grew to upper calf length using regular cotton pillowcases, but recently I am trying a satin pillowcase out of curiosity.

      I'm more concerned about the Earth as a whole so... natural (silk) > synthetic (satin) not biodegradable. Veganism is a first world, modern diet. Completely unrealistic and unsustainable without modern technology. Vegetarianism is more logical.

      @@JuliasHairJourney many people are vegans today, yes. But there's never been a civilization before current times that was only vegan for obvious reasons. First, to be able to stay alive and healthy as a vegan you need modern convenience and technology. That's not judging anyone that's just the uncomfortable truth. I think veganism should be used as a cleanse, a reset, as a short term therapy to clean the body, but in order to maintain proper health you need some animal products eventually. I know some good vegans. I don't think they're bad people and I don't intervene with anyone's lifestyle unless they ask my opinion but I do believe many are being misled.

    I want to be pretty & have beautiful hair, but the process of making silk is undeniably cruel. My temporary hair & face will age with nature, and I'd rather find something to maintain the natural health of skin&hair that doesn't kill the silkworms by boiling them alive in hot water whilst still in their cocoon. It just such a disgusting abuse of the natural world. I just can't stand the idea of giving my hard earn money to an industry that will profit the slaughter of animals just to get my hair looking good for a night out.

    This is a video for people who don't actually understand scientific principles. Simply put. Satin is a weave, not a material. Silk is material, a fiber, not the way it is woven. Polyester turned into Satin is slippery yes, maybe even too much, BUT it does not breathe and that can cause and assortment of problems. But what she pedals, very unscientifically, is just Layperson nonsense. Silk will not reduce split ends. Silk pillowcases will not regulate your body temperature or reduce the amount you sweat.

    • @rmat9023
      @rmat9023 2 роки тому +2

      @bearraaaaTV You can actually use tools to measure the "smoothness" or friction of a material. There are cheap satins on Amazon which are 1 for 1 with the smoothness of silk, so if friction is an issue those can be used. Objective measurement tell us this, not just "hand feel"

      Is silk hypoallergenic? Does it reduce the drying effect that poly, cotton and others purportedly perform on hair and skin? When sources online state it is temperature-regulating and breathable, you’re saying that is untrue?

    • @rmat9023
      @rmat9023 Рік тому

      @@AdamSmith-fe9jf I never said anything about hypollaergenicity. And polyesters and cottons as well as silk can be drying, and by that I take it you mean pulls moisture away from you, it all depends on how its woven. Temperature regulating is a meaningless term, you cant be true or false if it means nothing. Like a politician who says they will do whats right. What does that mean. And lastly breathable again comes down to weave.

    • @AdamSmith-fe9jf
      @AdamSmith-fe9jf Рік тому +1

      @@rmat9023 I never said you said anything about hypoallergenic attributes of silk. You had omitted any reference to such a quality, yet that is touted as a primary advantage of silk and yet you made no mention of it. I am simply asking about your opinion as to the efficacy of such an aspect vis a vis the silk material as your matter-of-fact tone implies you are delivering factual descriptors of silk when in actuality your lack of thoroughness exemplifies an incomplete and non-credible understanding. Additionally, temperature-regulating means just that - it regulates temperature. To clarify a contextually apparent term even further, it means it will regulate thermal ambience so as to keep warmer in cooler temps, yet provide breathability and ventilation in warmer temps. And no, it does not have to do with the weave, just as the weave is insignificant in allowing cotton and wool to be breathable, ventilating materials. These are innate properties of these materials that can be easily verified. Unfortunately for you, the assertion that breathability comes down to weave is fallacious and can only be applied to synthetic fabrics, but cannot be said of the natural counterparts as those are the intrinsic qualities of such materials.
