Fuckin’ Denny sure knew his way around a goddamn fretboard. He’s one of my all-time favorite guitarists. Ever solo he played on SD a Dan track was pure gold.
One of the best solos ever created, alongside Dias' other underated solo from Aja. I think Dias was to Baxter as Felder was to Walsh, all outstanding guitarists, each bringing something new to the musical table. As for the solo, very nicely done.. I think Fagen said it best on hearing Dias play the solo live "Holy f***, that's great!"
Of all the amazing solos out there, this one keeps getting overlooked, even among Steely Dan fans. Thanks for doing it justice. I keep trying but cant keep up except at 0.75 speed at the moment. watching your left hand really helps.
That's beautiful. The steely Dan work by Denny, and Larry, and Skunk all prove that "The Best Guitarist" lists are truly meaningless. (Except to sell magazines to the musically shallow.)
Denny’s solo on that track is the best thing on Katy Lied, and you just killed it, Sean! Fantastic - you made it look and sound as effortless as Dias did, despite how technically complicated it really is. Just beautiful, man...
You’re doing something of real significance in keeping this amazing art alive. No bs you’ve chosen a profession where you can be proud you’re making people’s lives better. God bless Denny Dias.
Outstanding! I just recently discovered you and the Brooklyn Charmers and I’m like a kid in a candy store. So many fabulous and flawless renditions of my favorite songs from my favorite band.
I'm guessing you played the bass line too on the backing track? Really outstanding, from backing tracks to the solo itself. Really gobsmacked. What amazes me in general is that Dias sort of discarded his immense guitar playing talent to go whole hog into the computer biz. That blows my mind nearly as much as his solos do. It makes me wonder if his IT compadres have any inkling of what a giant they're walking amongst when they're geeking out.
The backing track is just the Brooklyn Charmers, the group I tour Steely Dan's music with. Funny thing too about this comment is I currently work IT as my day job, lol!
@@seanbriskey9763 "Funny thing too about this comment is I currently work IT as my day job, lol!" Likewise! Except, I don't have the distinction of having formed, and played with, Steely Dan in my hidden talent pool ... haha.
Where did that backing track come from? Sounds subtly different from the original recording. (The backing track, not your playing. Your playing was spot on.)
Thanks Sean........you make this effortless and just so good for what is one of the great all time solos........I'll be trying to get this down(over the next aeon lol), seeing you play it helps tremendously............cheers and well done!!
Yes, this is What you get when everything is just perfect. Songwriting, arrangement, groove…. The ”solo” a very Young Porcaro did after this guitar solo is just great. Compare this with Herbie Hancocks cover and you Will find the original recording even better. Steely Dans best record?
Thanks for listening! The little bit is definitely tough to replicate. I don't think I got it quite right, but it's just a flurry of notes--I don't think Denny could've done it like that again.
This is my favorite solo ever performed on a guitar.
It’s up there for me too 🤙🏻
Definitely my favorite.
mine too

This is true--I think he is overlooked in a lot of regards!

To play this live/improvised the way he did is other worldly. Thanks for listening!
One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. Probably tied with Larry Carlton’s on Third World Man
Subtle, sophisticated work. It's so reassuring to see young, dedicated artists like Sean committed to honoring this material.
Thanks so much Jonathan!

glad I could help!
It is vastly underrated for sure!! I put it right up there with Carlton's Kid C solo
@@occasm ...but DD's solo in Bodhisattva, now that's otherworldly!
A textbook example of how being relaxed while you play works wonders!
Thanks for listening!
Denny Dias has played some of my favorite solos ever and you did an amazing job with this one.
Bebop sax licks in there are so smooth.
Denny's leads are generally the most challenging due to his bebop influence! Thanks for listening.
That's beautiful. The steely Dan work by Denny, and Larry, and Skunk all prove that "The Best Guitarist" lists are truly meaningless. (Except to sell magazines to the musically shallow.)
Very true!
Love it and your back drop❤️

Yes, its great, let's not get crazy, Phil Woods alto solo on Dr. Wu is fantastic as well.
@@cameron_fairchild ...that is one great horn solo ...ingrained in my head for decades
One of my all time great guitar solo's. Nicely done.
"Oh, holy f*ck! That was great! Ohhh...."
- Fagen, D.
Man, that was nearly perfect. Awesome job! One of my favorite SD songs because of DD's guitar work. Love it!

Thanks for the kind words! Happy to make people happy through music :-)
Nice! That little cluster of notes at 0:33. I always love that
The best! Thanks for listening!
I hope you guys come to Japan someday soon. Love your covers. You smoked this solo!
You nailed it. All you need now is a pair of overalls.
Haha! Yes indeed.
one of the best guitar solo out there...super well done, bravo
Thanks Michele!
Cool playing, and cool G&L guitar!
Excellent
One of my favorite solos.... very well played!!! Thanks for posting :-)
Took me a couple of weeks to learn this but was oh so worth it. THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for listening!

It’s a joy to work with the charmers. Glad you enjoy! Cheers
Very well done! Seeing it played it's clear to see how complex and sophisticated this solo is. Iconic!
The gentle giant!

Cracking job - the feel is “just so”
that looks hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great taste in music, and superb playing.
Thanks Robby!
Gifted playing😊

Hey Sean, amazing job. Everything from your articulation, tone and phrasing was perfect. My favourite ‘Dan solo!

Sean….good job!!! You’re the guitar player of the Brooklyn Charmers, right?🇮🇹💙
Thanks for listening, and yes I'm one of the guitarists in the Brooklyn Charmers.

Great work dude! Trying to learn this solo but I just can't seem to get that phrasing at 0:56/0:57 right :')
