One HAS to comment on the post by Cathy Lincks. (who is obviously just rambling a bunch of nonsense) First, like Manfred Ketz who has a post below, I was on that Super Bowl XIV field with several hundred other awesome young people from 15-20 countries around the world. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I still go to the reunions every 5 years. Its purpose, in a nutshell, was to bridge cultural gaps between peoples and countries using music as the medium. And it was a tremendous educational experience as well. That Super Bowl performance was just a taste of the many songs written by some of the MOST talented musicians in the 1970's - 1980"s. What an amazing opportunity and PRIVILEGE to have traveled 1979-80 through portions of the United States and central Europe. It gave me a lifetime of memories and close friendships. Oh yes, and one more thing: I don't remember Kool-Aid ever being on the menu!!
Mac, wow! It must have been fabulous to be part of this group! When I was a young girl, my Nana took me to see Up With People, and we had such a wonderful time together that we went every time they came to our area and bought the music, to hold us over until the next year.. For the "old-timey" music (her words) that I hadn't heard before, she would give me a little history on that music and tell me how it influenced her life, and if there was a special dance (like The Charleston), she'd teach me the dance. We loved your shows, and especially how you got people involved. I definitely remember the conga line. Same music, too! We had a ball! We would always marvel at how so much talent was on one stage, each one of you with a heart to help others in need. Thank you for being part of the group that today gives me sweet, special memories of her so happy that she sparkled.
I am pretty sure Up With People is still around, though not as big as it was in the 1970's and 80's. I would consider going to one of their shows if they are in my area.
Well, I was at the game 50 yard line about 30 rows up from the field, it was a good show. Unfortunately, I couldn't pick you out from the others. But I'm sure you were hella good !!

Come on! Where are you snipers? - Bart Simpson while watching UWP inspired Super Bowl halftime show.
I'll never understand why so many people hate these "Up With People" shows! I think this is a really fun show--much better IMHO than the overdone "extravaganzas" that pass for halftime shows nowadays. I think the Super Bowl halftime show jumped a REALLY big shark in the early 1990's.
@@KingArthurshorts I know a lot of it had to do with TV ratings also. Much to the chagrin of the minority of us who prefer these old-school halftime shows, the TV ratings went down considerably during halftime in the pre-Michael Jackson days.
Whoever is singing at 3:40 is real cute. Yeah this may be corny by today's standards. But this is better quality than Beyonce. This was entertainment just for its own sake, which is unheard of now.
I always get nostalgic for these old-school halftime shows around Super Bowl time. I have yet to find full videos of the shows from Super Bowls II, VI, VIII, XII, XIII, and XV, and I've only found the first half of the Super Bowl IX show, but the rest of them can be watched on UA-cam.
Imagine if it had been the ACTUAL lineup of bands that were booked to play Super bowl 14, Foreigner, UFO Brian Adams and Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhoades! Sadly that never came to be as Randy died in the plane accident during the stop to fix an air conditioner on the way to Florida to play the gig. Wonder why the rest of the bands didn't play with a replacement Act for Ozzy? Would have been miles better than this imo.
1 billion times better than the overdone corporate crap now. This is authentic and has a cool home down authentic feel. Now everything is run by corporations out culture fucking sucks
All the great Rock Bands of the 60s and 70s, and the great Country acts of the 70s and they do a 40s throwback with a bunch of unknown college kids? If they were going cheesy for the older audience, they could at least had John Denver sing. This was cheap for the Super Bowl and unacceptable, but much more decent than the Ghetto booty shows of today.
The only thin embarrassing about this video is that it was at an "American" football game...Real football is played with a round white ball at the foot!!! Good show Bob, you're a great team player, terrific alumnus and super sport!!!!
Yikes! My face, while watching this, is identical to the face Bob Dylan makes when being filmed during the “We Are The World” mega group video also from the 80’s...
