What? If he's a drone flyer and a copper, then surely he would know the rules? That's like saying, it's great to hear a plumber who knows about plumbing, even though he installs pipework?
Dj you are my guilty pleasure! Once the kids are sorted, I chill out watching stuff on YT but the first thing I do is head to your channel and watch the latest video. When you've not posted that day I panic and think my notifications are broken 🤣 keep up the good work and i love that you and nny have teamed up.
You two blend well together, it was a good watch, and it was unlike so many aggressive idiotic ‘audits’ that are all over UA-cam. Credit to the police in this video too, engaging and informative.
Loved the interaction with the officer his face was so painful to watch he would t be expecting you DJ and news north Yorkshire loved the way you fired questions at him he looked so uncomfortable they love to be in control but you both had the upper hand great footage ♥️👍
a great video from DJ and NNY. Excellent teamwork and really looking into the legalities of drone flying. The drone police constable was patient and certainly got questioned in detail - he deserves mention for that. A great interaction. 🙂
According to the act: The constable may require a person to ground the aircraft if- (a)the constable has reasonable grounds for believing that the person is controlling the unmanned aircraft, and (b)the constable has reasonable grounds for suspecting that the unmanned aircraft has been, is, or is likely to be, involved in the commission of an offence (including an offence under this Act). So they can't just arbitrarily demand you land your drone: They still need reasonable grounds to suspect that an offence is being/has been/is going to be committed So I would ask "Do you reasonably suspect I have committed/am committing or am about to commit an offence, and if so what are your reasonable grounds that bring you to that conclusion?"
"Why yes I do have an agenda Officer. My agenda is to find out the precise rules and regulations for drone flying, so that I can be 100% confident I am not breaking the law. Is that a bad thing?"
Thats easy - over 600 in the House of Commons when they are voting themselves a pay rise. One of the few times they all turn up, I can for the life of me wonder why?
Yep Altitude Angel is part of the backbone of what Drone Assist uses. I wish drone assist in the UK had more functionality when it comes to creating a flight and requesting or informing local ATC's of a flight.

He jumped straight into “you guys have clearly got an agenda” as if they don’t know by now to always act like the professionals they are supposed to be. Every one has off days but your videos highlight the truth behind their serious lack of education. Keep it up bro 😎
I had to laugh when you typed "there serious lack of education" instead of the correct "their serious lack of education". It seems they are not alone in needing an education.
Absolutely class response from all the Police officers in this video. Again, this knowledge needs repeating to all patrol officers, because like you always high light DJ, its such a grey area! Great video. Keep it up.
It's such a grey area that most of the police officer shown in audits, don't know much about drones or the law appertaining to them. Many don't know about other laws as well but that's another story. To stop unwanted grounding of drones by the police to check the registration number, could that number be attached to the controller unit as well as the drone. This number can then be used until the drone lands, this can then ground their "Grounds for landing the drone"
Really great to see the great interaction with the PC that recognised your voice. I only saw this today but was hoping to actually attend when the Urban Airport Demo was in Coventry but was unwell in hospital.
8:40 DJ I usually agree with you but why are you so into the idea of police surveying the public to find cannabis farms? I can think of a million crimes I'd prefer police were investigating.
45:00 I would disagree with the cop. The public are under no obligation to help the police in their enquires and investigations. Rice v Connolly. So just like a driver being asked at a DVSA checkpoint to turn the indicators or lights on doesn't have to and can literally get out of the car and tell the police/DVSA to do the check themselves, a drone pilot is under no obligation to help the police by landing the drone under order by the police. Doesn't matter that the police don't know if the drone has an op id or not, they can only go on what they do know. The police just have to be patient since a drone has limited flying time.
I was flying my DJI Mavic Pro one time. I had flown over private property a fair distance so that I could film the sun just peeking over a big hill in front. Flying on the way back I was about to fly almost directly over a farm house. I saw on my mobile screen someone step out from behind the wall and raise up what looked like a gun. It was, I started darting left and right and up and down as I continued towards my car. I heard two quick fire blasts of this gun. Easily recognisable as a shotgun. I landed it and he had actually hit it. He put a hole in one of the props and there was a little indentation on the side of the battery casing. I was shocked and all excited to see the footage as my heroic little Mav had survived. I was absolutely gutted to find that I had done the entire flight and forgot to press record. I could have cried my eyes out. I never contacted the Police as at that point I was unsure of drone laws over private property in Ireland, and I did not want to land myself in it. I had spare props anyway so it was no big deal.
I thought, ooh, an hour-long video inside, probably not going to bother watching this one.... But, WHAT A VIDEO ! Excellent video, very informative, great interaction with the police. Thanks, DJ
The ATMUA Act 2021 only states that a constable MAY ask to see the OP ID. 'May' is not 'MUST' . Any offence must have 3 elements for a lawful detainment- Subjective, Objective, and Necessity. Saying that these 2 constables gave some good info. Very good.
I think you may have a misunderstanding of what this means. Where it says a constable "may" search, or may seize, or may require something this is simply clarifying the constable has discretion to do so or not. If it said MUST then the constable has no choice but to ask every single time. The subject being requested does not have a choice (well, they do, but there are consequences for refusal) There is plenty of legislation which say a constable "may" search or "may" arrest or "may" enter. This doesn't mean the person being searched or arrested has a say in this or has grounds to refuse.
At 5:40, I had to allow myself a little smirk, although I was willing the officer to say ‘we use this one to view the crime scene from aaabbbboooove!’ Great vid DJ.
