It's amazing that the same people who wrote the 1st Black Panther film made a film that honor their actor at the expense of killing his characterization ironically. For example, Queen Romanda allows Wakanda to retreat back to isolation when T'Challa's purpose was to correct the misguided traditions that Killmonger exploited.
It's a justified and realistic reaction, especially after their home got invaded not shortly after the King's death. I wouldn't want to keep providing the same people my stuff if they barged into my home and tried to take it by force like they owned it.

I do agree with how they addressed T'Challa's sickness. they could have said it had something do do with T'cahlla being snapped for five years, that his body was uniquely affected and couldn't survive the experience much long afterwards, without another application of the herb
That sound doable and tying it to the mystery of the herb would have been nice
Or could have just have him be inflicted by an alien pathogen when fighting Thanos Army in Infinity War and Endgame and have that pathogen react very negatively with the flower power coursing through his body, making it a fatal reaction that wasn't traceable because it showed no symptoms until it was too late.............. Its a bit out there but it could have made sense with a little bit of re work 🤷♂️
How about this: open with a scientist discussing that there's been a string of deaths, unexplained, amongst people who were 'snapped'. They assure the public that the snap has some casualties, but losses should be minimal. Then the funeral: no loss is trivial.
If I had made this movie I would've given the character of T'Challa the respect he deserves. He wears a mask so nobody can see his face. Give him a proper send off and have him die heroically against impossible odds to save his people.
Having him die off screen seems so disrespectful.
Having him wear a mask throughout the hole movie would've been distracting as hell and very emotionally lacking.
Especially when it's "an unknown sickness" aka Bud Light Virus

"Died of an unknown illness". Didn't the heart shaped herb give him any immunity? Super soldier serum cured Steve of all the diseases he had. Even if tchalla was sick, it shouldn't have reached advanced stage with the herb in him. Wakanda being an advanced nation they should've been able to find a cure easily..
They could of placed him on stasis like they did to winter soldier..
Don't think too hard about it. Marvel Studios sure didn't. They let T'Challa die for their agenda and "out of respect" to Chadwick.

It's funny, because of my near-sightness I misread that as "Families can't decide company failures."
Chadwick Boseman is not T’Challa. He is a gifted actor who played the character. Any good actor can play T’Challa. Recasting is not being disrespectful.

Notice the lack of black men in the story? We just have M'Baku. Where are the strong black men fighting to protect the nation? It just seems like they are doing the Woman King over again, but with superpowers and laser spears.

They've bundled her into the film because they need an Ironman character & this was the easiest way of getting her in there & in a way that they hoped would deflect criticism (given it's about legacy), it's not like they could risk her own film or even a TV series at this point.
But they have all of this in Shuri already. Think about it. Riri and Shuri are basically the same character.
They should have just folded the Ironheart persona into Shuri's characterization. She's already a young black female engineering genius that had a huge hand in building T'Challa's suit, as well as her dual hand cannon thingies that are very reminiscent of Tony's hand repulsion beams. As a princess of an advanced nation, she has believable access to the sheer amount of money and materials necessary to make these suits, unlike a 19 year old kid at MIT. She already has goodwill from the first movie, and many would probably accept her being Wakandan Ironheart over her being the Black Panther tbh. If we need her stateside, she's already heading that research center out in California, just have her relocate there, especially since it's implied she won't be the monarch, M'Baku will be. Riri is just a redundant character at this point.
Just like in the comics, we already have an alternate Iron Man and he's called War Machine. Why he doesn't get to do anything on his own in either format is a mystery.
@@vladpiranha Is he interesting in the comics? I only know War Machine from the MCU, and I don't know why he exists, though at least Howard was charismatic. Cheadle is so bland.
I think that kid from IM3 could have stuck around and grown into an apprentice; we can call him Ironwill or whatever when the time comes, he's an original character, we're not plagued with Riri, and we wouldn't have wasted 2 Spiderman movies on him being Iron Boy.
Or we could cut him too and just bring back my boy Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer lol. Such a fun character, thrown away on the worst Iron Man movie.

In Order to Save this Movie and the Story,Disney and Marvel Studios should have Had Recasted the T'Challa Character since he's Both Black Panther and Wakanda,it isn't to Disrespect Him but to Honor Him and His Family,This Decision is Both Disappointing, Disrespectful, and Disgusting.

Actually, I think I know how to fix the Riri character. In addition to the improvements they made to her, a few more that if they made would of made her what I think may actually qualify as a good character:
1) Change her backstory so she grew up in the area where Black Panther sets up his school/outreach building. Have her go there. By having her go to a school or outreach center that Black Panther set up it adds to the idea of legacy. It also adds a connection to him and Wakanda, which then means when the Royal Guard comes to get her later, she now knows who they are and gives her a reason to be more trusting and less of a jerk. So instead of the reaction we got, we get one of more wonderment. This also would show how the Queen went the wrong direction with isolation after Black Panther disappears. I imagine having Riri show up in Wakanda talking to the Queen about how much that school meant to her sprinkled in how she wants to carry his legacy forward would not only be tasteful but would serve not only as a flaw for the Queen, but also a moment of character growth where the Queen could recognize in her grief she was wrong and a way to move past it. This personal connection also gives the Wakandans a reason to protect her, as I would think the Queen and her (and possibly other people that were close to Black Panther) would then see her as more of a symbol of the good Black Panther did in the outside world. I also can see a lot of narrative gold on the idea that everyone she looks up to is dead, once again showing how without Black Panther, they lost their way and integrating her into there stories, and themes of the movie.
2) When that gets closed down during the 5 year time skip, have Tony Stark recognize that area needs something and he continues to fund it. This would again provide a tie and allow the legacy of his character to move forward. Where the theme of Riri character is the burden of carrying someone else's legacy and the worries one has of themselves if they can live up to it. This would paint her as likable as instead of tearing down the old, she wants to do right by it, to make sure the good they made in the world is nurtured spread. It also could be her mini-arc where at the start she has no idea how to live up to the legacy and is feeling crushed under the weight and at the end she has started to accept the responsibility of it.
3) Her ironman suit ends up being a fusion of the aesthetics of the iron man suit and black panther suit. Again, the theme of the film is legacy, so instead of the design we got, have something that pays tribute to the people who helped make a large positive change in her life. Change her character from I am a minority women so I am the smartest and bestest to people made a positive change in my life, how do I pay this forward, now that I have power how to I respect the legacy they left behind? In later movies she can get a design that is closer to that in the comics, but for this one, I feel a more "legacy" looking one would fit the theme better.
Curious on others thoughts on if this in their eyes would make the character and also parts of the movie better. That or at least you can see the direction I am going, and the multitude of cool ideas and good plot changes this would cause.

I new they were going to fumble the bag without the recast Chadwick Boseman's brother spoke on behalf of his brother he said he wanted the character to continue so basically marvel got his blessing they are objectively wrong imo

Did she also need the concept of gravity explained to her by her suits A.I. and steal the plans, parts, and lab equipment to build her armor before being given one built by Stark’s (I guess in this Shuri’s) lab after her’s was destroyed by a single attempt at doing something?

I think the changes to Namor was something to do with rights issues…..in order not to have to pay royalties to the creators of the original comic book character, they had to change him enough to be essentially a different character…

I haven't seen the film but I think introducing Ironheart Riri was a huge mistake as it totally detracts from the story and has no reason to be introduced here. Feige made a huge mistake just skipping over great story lines from the comics. He rushed into the whole modern era which is currently tanking titles left and right. I'm certain when the Fantastic Four is introduced it'll be Susan who's the leader of the team. Reed (who's made way too many mistakes in the modern era) will be an idiot.
The one thing you should never do when you're impaled is to remove the object because you'll die from blood loss, she had wolverine/ Deadpool level of healing factor.
Tony stark did the same thing and survived, using his nano macines, why can't the black panther suit do the same.

Yeah I remember reading a dozen articles about people wanting Shuri to be Black Panther while Chadwick was still alive. They even tried it in the comics by giving Shuri a solo series where she was Black Panther and it was God awful, just looking at the art alone was enough to make you hurl!

This is how the Phase 4 M-SHE-U concludes? Ironic. Plus I find it odd that they won't recast Black Panther but have no problems trying to replace 'Thunderbolt' Ross after William Hurts passing.
The whole recasting T'Challa situation has me conflicted because one one hand, I like what Ryan Coogler wanted to do with the struggles of being a king in a changing world after Avengers Endgame and how that parallels Namor’s introduction with a two worlds colliding story that introduces some interesting ideas
While on the other hand, I understand if they recasted the T’Challa than people might not see past what Chadwick Boseman brought to the role and why they felt the need to change some details to make it more than just one lead making a difference and how Namor can still be apart of the story along with Talokan going to war with the surface
Even though it might’ve been too much, I wonder what this movie would’ve been like if Doctor Doom had made his MCU introduction in this Black Panther sequel and how it could’ve affected things going forward
@SockMonkey Gaming that is not even remotely true. If Namor was handled well he would totally hold his own in a story with Doom. One of the most classic early FF comics by Lee and Kirby was Doom and Namor teaming up to take down the Fantastic Four before Namor joins the FF to take down Doom.
Chadwick isn't the only talented black actor in Hollywood. They cast him because he was safe, plain and simple. That's why they recast Rhodey. Don Cheadle was non-threatening compared to short RDJ. What happened to Wakanda Forever is what's been happening since Endgame. Hell, we even saw it in Endgame with the forced "girl power" scene. But it makes sense since women 18-35 are the core demographic in society--they have all the buying power. This movie had its moments, but killing T'Challa cast a dark cloud over the entire thing.

Namor was changed in the MCU primarily due to DC's Aquaman movie beating Marvel to the screen in portraying Atlantis and a sea based hero, even though Namor predates Aquaman in the comics.

Riri Williams did steal Tony's inventions remember the scene where she literally burned his schematics when the cops showed
It felt like they were giving M'baku a little bit more in this movie, he was almost interesting to me. When he showed the elders some level of knowledge he knew and was giving Shuri some council both when she was grieving and when it came to killing in war, I appreciated that. But in the end, he was just minor enough that it didn't build up enough. Also, it bugged me how VERY briefly RiRi mentions her father as almost an influence in her life, but it's so quick if you sneezed it would've been missed.

1.Puttig Riri Williams into this and making her a central figure was the equivalent of strapping a half ton weight on a guy who's alredy limping from a .40 caliber bullet wound.
But the saddest part is that there were so many cool ways to make both her and Namor more interesting:
A)Make Riri the villain. She's alredy Tony Stark but with none of the charisma so just play into that with Shuri being the ONLY one protecting her because she's displacing her grief and not seeing her for what she is
B) Have Namor not really give a crap about Wakanda initially. Only informing them that he's gonna kill the scientist (Riri) out of obligation as he feels that he's doing them a favor.
And when apporached he basically beats the crap out of anyone or completely ignores them. Saying outright that the only person he'll talk to is the current Black Panther, as he would be a warrior first and politician second, which does fit with Chadwick's interpretation of the character while giving Namor a good bit of depth.
Showing that while he's a king himself he respects fighters first and foremost
2. Its kinda weird that more enthasis isn't put on how destabilising T'Challa's death is on Wakanda. The way its set up, Wakanda has had a king/queen and a warrior with the Black Panther title for *centuries* with the cicle never being broken.
But now with T'Challa's death they lost BOTH. Showing the country and the royal family in unrest and dissaray could have been interesting
3. Okoye probably should have been the next Black Panther if recasting wasn't an option. I could totally see the actress pulling it off.
Okoye works better as a midnight angel though. In the comics they were an elite group of Dora Milaje. The best of the best. And Okoye IS the best of the best. It fits.
Wakanda losing a king and a protector WOULD be destabilizing if the queen didn't ALSO have all the same ruling power the King has. Losing a king wouldnt be that terrible since the queen is still there and unlike is traditionally kingdoms, she has the same power he does. They still have a ruler. What they really lost was a protector. And the movie covered that great. The US got c ok confidnet and attacked a wakanda outreach center becaus ethey thought they were helpless without the black panther.
Namor would never NOT care about Wakanda. It's a powerful nation just like his. With Vibranium, just like his. They are clearly a nation that can match with his. Any good ruler would pay a little attention to a the only nation that could destroy or help his own nation.

So they've completely screwed over the Fantastic Four before they even got an MCU movie. They ruined two enemies closely associated with them with Namor and the Skrulls in Captain Marvel and Wakanda Forever, because it was worth it for these crap movies instead of potentially good FF stories. They also ruined then buried the Inhumans, another group closely associated with the FF. And they ruined Mr. Fantastic in Multiverse of Madness.
They really should have swapped out Riri with a Ultimate Universe style young Reed Richards with powers. MCU Spider-Man it up with him as powered up and active. Then have the Fantastic Four show up at the end. It'd be awesome and maybe humble that bald headed lady who flings out "colonizer" with impunity.
The M-she-U phase 4 is all about women rising above men. Chadwick Dying didn't made Shiri Black Panther, it just made it a lot easier for Disney to get rid of T'challa and have their own catwoman.
I believe Gary from Nerdrotic specified the reason either on FNT or another of their Wakanda Forever vids. Namorr, it's a rights issue. It may be Universal still has rights to the character. So Namor, Avenging Son, isn't the right character and they gave us Namorr the boy without love

Truth be told, Namor and his people being Mayan-like was a very good and well-executed idea. Beside that, most of your critique is spot on even though I did enjoy the emotional weight of the movie.

@SockMonkey Gaming I thought I was the only one hopping on they ass for LYING. They can use Namor, Atlantis and the whole 9. They just can't make a SOLK FILM, even with all these "creator royalty" changes, they still can't make their own movie about him! So they should have just made someone like Luke Evans Namor, & Tenoch Huerta could have been an underwater rival to Namor battling over the "King of Atlantis"/ King of the Seas/Oceans title. There's already another underwater continent civilization that rivals Atlantis in the comics, Talokan could have been exactly that !

Thanks for the review, there was always a sense that the MCUs was slowly heading towards a Creative Dead End sans SM: NWH.
Each new Film and TV Series kept highlighting the substandard quality of the writing/storytelling.
I was initially excited about Wakanda Forever but after the She-Hulk finale, my expectation for anything beyond that point dropped like a stone.
Counting backwards now BP: WF, T: L&T, DS: MOM have collectively sucked and now we know why they unceremoniously skipped to Phase 5 but that hardly improves anything with what we've seen so far.
It's time to move on from the MCU franchise. Whenever you have a good idea, the sincerity to apply it usually shines in the early stages, then it matures, then it peaks and eventually becomes long in the tooth when it doesn't know how to evolve.
The MCU is now middling and feels unremarkable at best but now expect a few, rare good ones and lots of forgettables in the future. 💁
The only reason SpiderMan is good is because Sony has say in it.

Chadwick went on record saying he wanted the role recast. He did NOT want Black Panther to die with him. So this was not what Marvel thought was "the most respectful thing". This was a GLEEFULL(for them) opportunity to replace yet another strong male character with a female imitation.

They gave Shuri the Reva treatment. Fatally stabbed in the torso doesn't kill them. Even if done twice.
They're Waknadans. Shuri can stabilize wounds with her beads and the suit has nano particles, as seen when the hole on the suit closed. The only reason Killonger does form the Stab wound is because he specifically refused medical treatment. If he had the beads to stabilize his wounds, he would've survived too.

this movie is "girl power" to the extreme. Ahkukhan (spelling) looks similar to the Submariner. They should have just made Namor and the Atlanteans like they are in the comics. The large feather motif makes no sense for an underwater race in my opinion.

@@MKF30 I loved MoS and WW, and enjoyed Aquaman as dumb fun. Shazam felt like a little kids movie, but it was inoffensive. But BoP, WW1984, Black Adam, both cuts of BvS and JL, just... no.
The Batman this year was the best, and that was only just above average. Too long, too dark in color, not enough development because everyone felt like a stock character, and flooding Gotham felt like the wrong choice for the ending. It should have ended when Riddler was arrested and ranting to Batman from Arkham. The noir vibes were cool I guess, and the cinematography/technical production. I'd rate it well above Schumacher's Batman & Robin, juuust better than his Batman Forever, but a good deal worse than Burton's and Nolan's.
I never thought about the having no Vibranium and building a Vidranium detector. Dumb writers.
I agree this is one of the worst films. I have so much frustration about this mess. The M-She-U has ruined nearly all my childhood heroes by emasculating, humiliating and killing off them for a better stronger female lead, truly disheartening and disgusting.

Obviously, they changed Namor and Atlantis's origin stories for the MCU because, in the comics, they're very similar to what Aquaman did in his movie, which came out a couple of years ago. So they wanted Namor to feel as different as possible from Aquaman to keep people from saying he's just a Marvel Aquaman knock-off. Honestly, I'm surprised you didnt figure that part out.
The origin and Atlantis changes, were all in service too "This is not Aquaman."

I think people are wrong about having to rewrite it because there were rumors that T'Challa was going to get killed in the beginning and his sister was going to take up the suit. I belive Disney just took a tragedy and turned it into an opportunity making it hard to criticize.
I think the only thing affected the script i think was they could not show T'Challas death, but the rest of the movie went as planned

I did like this movie but I can admit that I try not to think too much when it comes to comic book movies 🤣. The only thing that bugged me was Namor's changing motivations during the movie....the first two acts was about wanting to kill the scientist then for no legitimate reason it escalated into wanting to destroy the surface world 🤔....also if he wanted to destroy the world why not call the avengers for assistance??? 😩

Many of the choices, such as T'challa not seeking help, are DELIBERATE, they are part of the man bashing of the movie, they were ALWAYS going to replace him with Shuri, same with Riri.

People are finite, we live, we die. Characters are eternal, as long as there is someone to tell their story. Apparently, the story of T’Challa has ended, right as it was beginning. In my 60 years of life, and many years of being entertained by movies, James Bond, Star Wars, etc., I have never seen the death of an actor end the fictional character portrayal. Boseman was a brilliant actor and Marvel got the best actor available at the time to play the Role of T’Challa. Boseman resume of portraying famous people in film is well known. Again, a phenomenal actor. I was stunned and in disbelief when I heard of his passing but after watching the Five Bloods, I knew something was wrong with Boseman. Again I am 60 years old and throughly enjoyed the MCU. I have all the BP stuff from the first movie, Black Panther was my comic hero. Now Marvel, a company I have patronages and loved for decades has decided that I and many others like me, no longer need a superhero, no longer need representation in this genre. Sure there will be those who say, Hey! You got Sam Wilson-Captain America. Yea right, a guy with no money, can’t get a loan and has no superpower other than the need to do right. Come on Marvel, WTH! Now Marvel introduces T’Challa’s son? Now I gotta wait 10 years for this boy to grow up so I can see Black Panther again?!?! I don’t know if I will be around for this. So what do I do??? Well for one, I am cancelling Disney Plus. I can’t support them any longer, they are not providing content I want to consume, and it is my right to spend my money where I want. I cannot see this movie, those involved were in my opinion to close to the pain to truly tell a good story. They say art imitates life. Yea but this is a comic book movie, not an art piece. Marvel already had the answer when Boseman died. Since they reference him in BP2 off screen, they could have easily done that, said he was in a coma ( like in the comic) Shuri has to take over, problem solved. Next movie, out the coma and recast. It happens all the time in this industry. No actor is bigger than the character, I don’t care what anyone says, that is a fact. The character’s presence is required, it is necessary. This I promise is my last rant about this. This movie is like reliving Boseman death all over again. A reminder that those closest to him still are hurting and pained by his passing. Coogler even said in a Marvel podcast, that there is no other actor he could see taking T’Challas place. He should have been removed from the project. His job is to make a Black Panther movie. If Disney wanted to honor Boseman, they have a platform for that. They could have easily did this on Disney Plus. But they didn’t. So I am sad all over again, not just over the death of Boseman again, but ultimately the death of T’Challa. Sad

Idk if recasting T'challa would've helped. Because you know they were going to focus on all the women characters. Including the majority of the movie on the unlikable reeree williams. The movie would be the same. Disney and Marvel studios are hell bent on giving us unmitigated trash.

I totally agree with you about how T'Challa dies; it sounds like complete bullshit that he wouldn't have told anyone of his illness, or that there was no cure to it (or that the Wakandans couldn't have cured it).
They should have just had T'Challa die in some battle, or some massive rescue operation.
