Case and JCB Fastrac stuck in the mud

  • Went to pull our neighbour's Case MXM140 with field bird cultivator out of a sticky spot and got stuck straight away myself. Although it had brindled off on top it was like porridge underneath, i was easily able to sink my welly in to the top. Fastrac 3230 wasn't helped by the fact that the diff lock wouldn't engage so it was down to the JCB 535 95 loader to save the day, i should have took that in the first place !

    Its amazing to see how different driving skills sets are across the country.
    I grew up on a steep farm in Herefordshire with two wheel drive tractors. There was a local contractor in his 60's who'd moved to the area from lincolshire and had never driven on steep ground before.
    He was terrified, but to old to learn and kept getting stuck. He had a 6 cylinder 4wd Renault and I was forever having to recover him from position's where he'd got himself stuck.
    Half the time I could drive his tractor out without a tow. When I did have to tow him out I only had a dexta or a nuffield.
    We had family farming in Wales and they were at least ten leagues ahead of me with stuff like this.
    I've understood why people dig themselves into the ground once the wheels have broken traction and or clogged up with mud.
    It's far better to pull in a low gear so that you can stop as soon as you've broken traction. It's much easier to move the tractor and re-hitch than have to dig a tractor out of the ground, especially when the ground has the same moisture content as slurry.
    In my experience it's best to have a walk about and suss out where the grip is. This took a lot of peoples time to recover from something that was borderline as to whether it should have happened in the first place.
    The case driver should have been aware that the tractor was sinking at least 3-4 seconds before he came to a stop.
    The fastrac driver looked like it was his 1st time off road. To much power, to much wheelspin and to slow reacting to it. It's much better to risk stalling at low revs.
    I've never the kind of lifting capacity that a loadall can deliver in this situation, but to my mind lifing the stuck tractor out of the ground and dragging it sideways made a lot of uneccessary mess.

    well done guys, not an easy thing to get a big tractor out of deep mud.
    that tele/loader came very handy :)

    First smart recovery, DROP THE IMPLEMENT AND GET IT LATER!

    • @markpritchard
      @markpritchard 5 років тому +2

      Total agree. When bogged down it takes three times the weight of the tractor in force to get it out, so a 10 ton tractor bogged down will need a 30 ton tug to get it out. If the implement weighs 1 ton and you drop it then you will get away with 3 ton's less force needed to get the stuck tractor out if it can't get itself out.

    Well believe it or not i've also been driving tractors for a fair while, and over the years i have recovered plenty of stuck tractors and lorries from ditches, fields and snow, this being the first time i've got set myself. Hindsight is a great thing and if i was presented with that situation again i would handle it differently, i.e by getting the loader first.

    Most of the time in these shots, the best way to get un-stck would be to pull in reverse from where they were headed. If they have a plow, do like they did then pull forward . Best thing to do is make sure field is dry enough for plowing

    what we did back home with tele handler was bring long chains and a bucket, dig bucket into ground, chains onto chassis (chain down points?) and then just boom out... tends to drag most things out bar loaded 16t spreaders lol, tho you do need to be mindful of drains with bucket

    Shorter chain works better when pulling a tractor that’s stuck, the short distance between both seems to gain better traction for some reason, 👍

    Ursus is not only a small tractor. "kadkarFarmer" didn't write about what exactly model thoughts. There are also larger models such as 1934, 1954 or 1634. But on the such ground and pulling tractor with machine each tractor could well collapse in the mud

    Crane Lifting straps are the safest for pulling like that. No elasticity in them. Chains will fly when they snap.

    • @Marcmec
      @Marcmec 5 років тому +1

      The best is snatch straps that can flex upp to 7 percent then you can build upp some speed and it's just soft and you get more pulling power I have one that takes upp to 30 tons for the truck works amazingly.
