Macro Photography: Handheld Focus Stacking Guide

- One of the most challenging things when it comes to macro photography is dealing with the shallow depth of field, but luckily there is a way to increase the depth of field in your photos by using a technique called focus stacking. (Short pause) in this video I am going to talk about what focus stacking is and give tips on how you can improve your handheld stacking techniques.

I happened to stumble upon your video this morning and subsequently watched six of them. I have to say, you shared more enthusiasm and knowledge than I have seen from any other macro photographers on UA-cam. The videography, music choice, and measured and insightful dialogue reflect someone who is clearly consumed with his craft and his love of nature. And, it goes without saying, your photographs are superb. Well done!

I really enjoyed this. I do a lot of stacking of flowers on a tripod indoors with a remote control, but will be following your advice when I go outside. Thanks.
Great video! If anyone is having problems hand holding and a tripod is too much, using a monopod can work well. It will help you keep level with the subject but also allow you to tilt/rock back and forth.

If you tilt back and forth, your view of the subject would no longer be linear.

Dude. I have been watching a BUNCH of macro photography videos, but yours show a true mastery that's on a completely different level. You have an awesome patience and passion for your craft. You have developed a an expert eye and skill over the years, and it shows. You deserve WAY more subs. Thank you for all your helpful tips -- I've bookmarked all of them for when my Olympus 60mm F2.8 macro lens comes in. (Have you looked at the Olympus OM-1 with in-camera focus stacking? Wish my camera had it.)

Very informative, almost seems easy the way you describe it. Have my first macro lens tuning up in three days, I can't wait. I did take about 20 shots of a damsel fly last year, I used a Sigma 70-210 on a full-frame camera with monopod, one image is stunning but no depth of field, never the less both the eyes, body and legs are sharp, only the wings fad to a blur so well pleased, I've done a lot of reading and watching UA-cam to help with my decision on lens and ordered it yesterday.

Nice, I like the tip of practicing at home first and shooting in the morning. I would've went out and tried shooting bugs mid-day right away hahaha.
