Elevators are the movable surface attached to the trailing edge of the horizontal stab on aircraft that have elevators such as the KC-135 and A-10 to name two.

It's called "High Angle of Attack" as it goes almost strait up after wheels up and doing 200+ knots, kick the afterburners in and go for the Moon/Sun. AV-8B Harrier and the F-35B are V/STOL. The fact is, the F-35 was the replacement for the Harrier because it could also take off Vertical with much Shorter takeoffs and do mach 1 or better.
