Australian motocross legend Stephen Gall is the founder of Gall Bros Medical. glad you clarified this - no brace can protect you from twisting your knee.
A proper knee brace will be very effective against hyperextension but only have a limited effectiveness against twisting of the knee joint or compression that can damage the meniscus. This degree of effectiveness will be determined by how well the brace fits and if the straps have been done up properly.
@@gallbrosmedical-bracespec I wish you guys were local to me because I have been trying to get custom cti braces sorted out for the last 3 years, I have had at least 12 yes 12 maybe 14 sets of braces made and they still don't fit as of today, every single brace has been way to small some so small the ossur rep could not even get it on my leg, it has been one of the very worst and most frustrating customer experiences I have ever had and I wouldn't recommend even my worst enemy to get cti braces. I tried dealing with corporate and the northeast ossur rep plus another ossur rep and all of them absolutely refuse to make a cast/mold of my leg or do a 3d scan all the do is use a tape measure and take pictures and every single brace is too small. I have returned all the braces I give up on ever getting a set that fit.
I have had a custom pair of these for 30 years,works great but I think it is time for a new pair.
It is an honest review, kudos for that. However, it didn´t answer the question about WHY ARE KNEE BRACES SO EXPENSIVE they are just a frame of hard plastic with metal joints
Can a CTI brace handle being wet. I need an acl pcl brace for waterboarding and snow skiing.
Can you sit with them for a longer time on a motorbike (Say 2 hours) or are they only comfortable in a standing or walking position?

Only $10k for a knee operation? Damn, sign me up!! I dropped a DRZ in a parking lot at only ~5mph and did my ACL, MCL and PCL. The invoice for my first surgery to replace my MCL was $29k USD , the second for ACL and PCL was $32k - this is not including my initial ambulance ride and emergency room visit, 8+ months of doctor and PT co-pays, prescriptions, fees for the surgical center and 'durable medical goods' (leg immobilizer, crutches, post-op braces and eventually a custom brace) etc. If I didn't keep excellent medical insurance with a low deductible and low max out of pocket I'd have been bankrupt 10s of times over.
TLDR - It's WELL worth ponying up the $2-$5k for custom fit braces if you're gonna ride

I dont think the question why they are so expensive is answered. You clearly point out why you should spend the money, but why they are so expensive is still a mystery. Are they made of gold? Are they created from a rare substance found in unicorn tears? Legitimately the construction materials and cost of production has to far exceed the retail price. These companies are making huge profits and making this sort of protection exclusive for those with money. I think a lower price point will encourage more consumers with limited purchasing power to shell out the cash. I think these companies are being penny smart and dollar stupid. Deal in volume, and own the market.
You may be confusing the CTi Custom braces with ordinary mass-produced braces, Joe. These are orthopaedic braces used for many medical conditions, but adapted for dirt riders. yes and no. could they make profit with same item for less , yes, but you get into the racketeering aspects. get the medical would involved , health insurance US fed.. graft , medicaid, low income , taxpapers pay. and plenty of money selling a few. the 99% are left with no help unless criminal and poor. and paying for the minority. . it has been working just fine. DONJOY will not sell me their custom without a doctors prescription, welfare drunks that fell downstairs walk with DONJOY custom braces. you and me paid for.
The fact that a piece of thin metal shaped to your leg costs more than a high end television with insane picture and digital functionality should scream to anyone that this is a total scam. You're taking advantage of athletes who are blinded by their passions and desire to return to sport. Are custom knee braces worth it? Absolutely, because they work. Are they worth the thousands of dollars? Hell no. Max they are worth 300-500 bucks.
