  • One of the first father/son projects we ever did (2015). Thought I'd release it on this channel and see what you all think.
Though it does run purely on solar power, the 60 watt panel is not enough to run the 150 watt motor. Thus it has a ridiculous amount of battery storage that after a day of charging can run the thing in the dark if necessary for a couple of hours. It can do that as fast as I can sprint which means it leaves me behind about half way around a track. When we took it to a track it maintained 11 mph (18 kph) until the plastic hubs started to melt. I've since upgraded all hubs with bearings but haven't done the speed test again to find out how much faster it goes.

But it was more of a "here's a computer and here's the manuals" (DOS, GWBASIC, etc) kind of thing lol.

@@QuintBUILDs I want to build an electric recumbent reverse trike like this with storage saddlebags and a small pull behind bicycle trailer with solar panels for recharging....Build a lightweight frame for the trike, use one 100w thin lightweight solar panel on the front/hood, a removable plexi glass windscreen, then roof with a 100w solar panel and a couple extra 100w panels on a slide out rack (and slide outs on the trailer) to slide out for more charging power when parked. The hood, roof and trailer solar panels would recharge slightly when riding. But when parked the extra slide out panels would provide more recharging power. Also add a wall plug in charger and connect a 1,000 or 1500w generator head from a wind turbine to the pedals with sprockets & chain so you can also recharge by pedaling at a relaxing pace....Make a solar recumbent trike for long distance e-bike packing and travel the country with no fuel required.

Quint, you have as of today 242 thousand subscribers and you Are growing fast, People LOVE anything to do with energy harvesting whether it is hydro, solar, wind, etc.
lets build from scratch a high output generator/alternator that can be adapted to either wind or hydro many people live in areas where a spring house can be made and collect spring water, I Know there are better ways to make high output devices that will work on low flo or even low head water ,a better generator/alternators that can be so much more efficient and better ways to convert hydro power and capture more of the wasted potential as I see in so many designs .
ANYTHING along the lines of collecting renewable resources

I made a video of my background on my 2nd channel here: ua-cam.com/video/oqES86u8eTc/v-deo.html The biggest factor has been working with (and for) brilliant people I could learn from as well as the passion to study and experiment in my spare time. A manufacturing environment naturally puts you in contact with people like that but you can also seek them out in whatever field you're in. Good luck with everything, especially the kids!
