Goat Farming: Introducing Galla bucks at our Kibindu project

We had refrained from breeding the does at Kibindu goat project to make sure that the farm has settled well and pick the right breeding season before breeding them. Today we are introducing 3 bucks to breed about 100 does. The bucks that we have chosen are Galla bucks which means the offsprings will be F1 crosses of Small East African Goats and Galla Goats. We will breed the does F1 does with Boer bucks to create a 3 breeds composite breed that consists of Small East African, Galla, and Boer.

How often do you use antibiotics on your herd?

The reason why is that the galla goat which is a breed that originates from Somalia has naturally high immunity. And the bacteria in their guts produce great dung as a garden fertilizer.

I don't do it too often. I mainly use it during shipping to avoid travel stress and if the animal is showing clinical signs of bacterial infections.

Thanks for the advice. We do have a treatment area, however, lighting for shooting a video is not so good in there because its inside a treatment pen. As such, this is done outside for the sake of ensuring good video quality with natual lighting.
