So glad that you talked about Nicolas Winding Refn and more importantly Only God Forgives. It's so easy for everyone to see the issues with the film and complain that they do not look past the problems to see what Nicolas Winding Refn REALLY wants his auidence to see. Not a lot of poeple talk about him or Only God Forgives enough so im glad you have!
You make great stuff.
I only have one critique.
If you had let the clip from jaws of Brody and his son play without your voice behind it, and given an explanation of the importance of the scene after we'd seen it, I think the clip would have had a stronger impact on the viewer (or at least me). As you mentioned about Spielberg, your audience isn't dumb. Let us discover their use of hands in the scene ourselves, and then relate it to the topic. Breathe a bit. Analyze the film after it's in our heads as a whole unit.

Though you're right, it would definitely help the audience more, for narrative and structure purposes though, that's not my style. Thanks a lot though for caring! Great video. I just watched Dr Strange and the hand movements interested me. I like subtle non verbal communication that help push or reinforces an emotion or action.

I just finished "Only God Forgives" and the video.
I have no extra comments. You put it perfectly: the cinematography, acting and symbolism present in Winding Refn's films is what makes them so special.
As a photographer and lover of perfect composition myself, "Drive" is one of my favourite films and one I come back to to understand in a whole new way each time.
I'll most probably watch "The Neon Demon" this weekend.
I can't wait to see what you have in store next!

in the film Manchester by the Sea, the whole acting of Casey Affleck is basically done through his hand. Simply gestures that show the progression of the character emotion all done with simple editing, pretty good.

Hello! I am currently trying to make a UA-cam channel where I need to record part of a show as source material. My question to you is, what kind of software or program do you use to capture your source material. I have tried a few different suggestions but the result is always out of sync A/V or too grainy a picture to tell what is happening. Thanks for any help you can give!

How did you blow up so quickly? Like I'm genuinely curious because I've been on youtube for 3 years and I've uploaded a lot of consistent videos recently but I just passed 100 subscribers. Any tips?
Right so I have an idea, are you willing to compare how creators respect a persons intelligence between video games and movies. In terms of games I think the last of us nails it perfectly, namely how there are very detailed settings which enlighten the players on what has happened. The prime example of that being about halfway through the game you hit a checkpoint where you have to go through a bandit infested roadblock. Long story short, it turns out the player has killed a group of people who had just overthrown their local law enforcement for their well-being. I'm sorry i cannot give an adequate parallel where visual and audio ques tell us more to the scene in cinema but I'd like to see your response to this idea.
P.S. I really like your video essays
Interesting.. I like the sound of that. I did have an idea for a video about how creators control exposition and use it through visuals rather than through dialogue. And your idea of bringing in how video games do this definitely adds to the idea... This is something I'm really interested in for the future, maybe not within the next few videos because I have the next few planned ahead, however I'll most definitely have a good think about how the build on the idea further.
