Went to shake Richard's hand after a show, tell him it was a solid set, played from the heart. He says "nah" to my hand and goes in for the hug. Cuz he's all heart.
Well, the whole story is more that Richard was we felt the best part of a set opening for Trevor at the Orpheum. My dad was much chagrin to find that this guy was selling "our" album, implying he and Richard, which Richard once we got out to the CDs it turned out was not even on. It felt like a bait and switch, and I thought he deserved... not the accolades which feed pride, but something. Some acknowledgement for HIS work. HIS contribution. And not that I wanted this or that from him, or that it was about him in that way. But that he needs to know. That gets seen. That gets heard, that message, that heart. So, when I stepped out it felt needful to address him personally. It was my dad after I found up by the stage, hugging the keyboardist, thanking him.. so that's where I get it from.. hahah. But these people. They do a lot. They pour out of themselves. They deserve that too. Not as more than others, as hero worship. But just thank you as kindred. As someone else who recognizes the bardy needfulness of saying these things. Of understanding we are not ghosts. We are not ineffectual powerless beings, however comforting that abdication of responsibility might be. The people who own that shit, live it, and live to say it remind us what aaaalll the rest of it is for. This is soul food. And I'm down with it, man. I wanna see you get whatcha needs.
Same here man. Caught him in Chattanooga, TN with Xiuhtezcatl opening for Nahko. I remember being his age, and opening for those bigger acts and being that kid who was pouring it out on stage. The feeling of that stage. It's ethereal being up there. Went right up to them after Nahkos set was done when they came out walking around, and that's exactly what he did. Reached out and I was like "way to go little brother you guys killed it." Slaps my hand away, and hugs me like im a lost friend, and says thank you, thank you, so much." I just laughed and said "nah man, THANK YOU! it's great to finally feel real music, and the soul of it again. You're gonna change a few lives little brother" that smile he gave me man. True happiness in little brother. It's people like Rich that make, and keep Music's soul alive, and its the utmost pleasure to witness these kids jam it out live. I wish more people would thank these cats for the shows they do, and the feelings they inspire in people, instead of just cheer and rate them off what beats they drop. Mahalo for the story brother 👊
This man will always be the truest form of my heart and soul! I love Trevor's music to the ends of the universe, nothing connects/vibes with me on such a cosmic level as much as his songs. Forever will I love everything about this man!!
Sometimes I see videos like this and I just can’t help but think about how amazing humans are . It’s just incredible the things we can do. You both are so talented and you are sharing your gifts with the world . Does it get much better ? This truly brought me to tears . Aho ❤️
