    dude! love these videos! its great to find content that interests me when learning Portuguese. There's many full length podcasts with fighters like Oliveira, Pereira, Teixeira on UA-cam but They never have Portuguese subtitles. If you could do this on your channel I think it would be awesome!

    • @DecodingWordswithAndrew
      @DecodingWordswithAndrew  Рік тому

      Thanks man, appreciate it! If you want full length podcasts transcribed in Portuguese, I’d suggest finding someone on Fiver to do it (I’ve done it for Italian videos)….it would be pretty expensive though for a full podcast (it’s a LOT of work to do something like that). Even with the transcript, though, it would be hard to explain everything they say since fighters tend to use so much slang and non-standard speech, cultural references, as well as fight-specific terms. It’s hard enough trying to make a 5 minute video like mine 😂 my channel is really first and foremost a Portuguese learning channel, but you’ll see me using lots of figures from the MMA world as examples. More to come!

    • @DecodingWordswithAndrew
      @DecodingWordswithAndrew  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, speed is definitely a factor, but fighters in general (especially Charles) are not easy for a Portuguese learner to understand because they speak what I like to call "hood Portuguese"...which is completely different from the formal stuff they teach in apps and textbooks.

      @@DecodingWordswithAndrew Ok great. I understand 80% of formal Portugués through guessing because it’s so strikingly similar to Spanish. I'd argue falar is not more or less informal than dizer. Falar often implies you are talking to someone while dizer could be just talking in the sense of conveying information regardless of who the recipient is. This being said it's a very esoteric difference and they can be used interchangeably most of the time. "Falar com" vs "dizer a/para" is like "talking" vs "telling". Anyway, nice video bro!

    • @DecodingWordswithAndrew
      @DecodingWordswithAndrew  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment bro! Agreed, "falar" in and of itself is not more or less informal than "dizer", but in the context that Charles uses it ("falar para" in the sense of "to tell") it's definitely something you see way much more in colloquial speech. In formal, written contexts like newspaper articles you will much more likely see "dizer a" used to express "to tell"...i.e. "Familiares disseram ao jornal que...."
