For the longest time I've heard other halo fans saying "sprint killed halo" and as someone who was introduced to the series with Reach, I didn't really get it or agree. (Granted I never played Halo 5 at all and not much of Halo 4 multiplayer) This video made me understand why people are so upset about it, though, and I have to agree. I still like the Halo Reach style sprint personally, but I don't like the other armor abilities. After seeing this, though, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing them all go. Thank you for explaining this so well.
From what I understood at the time of Reaches release and life span, the main complaint was the lack of rank system. leaving no room to want to keep playing competitively.
Sprint can be very enjoyable for me tbh. I being unpredictable with it and it has resulted in some of my favorite moments playing halo multiplayer. It's so satisfying when used skillfully and you actually make it out alive when most players wouldn't.
@@jasonmarcus1683 its much more satisfying making it out alive by weaving and dodging around obstacles, timing aggressive moves perfect, looking straight down, turning a corner, popping a nade at your feet with no sheilds and jumping away just in time as the enemy pushes in, than it is to click the left stick, mash a button up a wall, and thrust away. The abilities not only make survivability easier, but also make chasing or predicting enemy movements frustrating, and timing grenades near impossible. Luck .. isnt fun or rewarding. At least not to me. I like earning my streaks. When doom eternal came out some people were upset that it was "just an arena shooter" as if arena shooters were inherently icky lepers to be avoided. This hits the nail on the head tbh; I love some of the more recent fps( siege is one of my favorite games) but there's something about arena shooters that can't be replaced by anything else. Everyone who got to play the original halo trilogy with some friends knows this, there's just a level of fun there with the maps, the randon weapons and the sandbox aspect of the gamecan't be found anywhere else.
Doom Eternal and Halo are completely different shooters. Constant, fast movement is paramount in Doom Eternal. Halo is about realistic skills like tactical decision making and aim. Doom Eternal has no reloading, low ammo capacity, no crouching, situational melee attacks, a small jump and double jump, you carry all of your weapons at all times, a long range extremely fast dash that makes Halo 5's thrust feel like nothing more than a camera trick, etc. etc. Why are you talking about Halo like it's the same kind of "arena shooter" than Doom Eternal is?

See my problem is even now on Halo 3 PC on small maps like BlackOut? Guardian? Guess what? Youre going to get beamed across the map by what? A BR. No escaping it. Gears only started to have less popularity on USA, in latinamerica is even bigger than before, why? Since the start of the franchise Microsoft gave extra love to Gears, just to make a comparison...Halo 5 was the FIRST Halo game with perfect dubbing, but Gears since the first one has top notch latinamerican dubbing and basically no mistakes, that is something that American players just can't see or are not aware of...they are not the only ones playing games, another example? Halo, if anything, stopped appealing to the broad audience and tried focusing on the competitive scene. That's what happened with halo 5. It became a more skill-intensive competitive experience at the trade-off of the originally simplistic halo experience.
Sloppy Salami 343i thought that shooters were going in the direction of Titanfall, CoD AW, etc. and was hoping to cash in on that trend. So 343i thought they were going to appeal to a wider audience, but ended up raising the skill floor and alienating more casual gamers.

I think Titanfall 2 was an amazing integration of sprint and advanced movement. The game was fully built around advanced mobility. I understand why people dont like advanced mobility but titanfall 2 did advanced movement perfectly
I went back to Halo MCC after Titanfall 2 and CE to 2 and it felt painfully slow and doddering. This is me exactly...it’s so weird how successful Halo 3 was,but no one has replicated that formula since then. I’m glad Installation 01 will be a thing. Halo fans are going to have to make their own..
Yep it still exists. Halo infinite really should be different. Unfortunately, dipshits will always say, it needs to be more like a classic halo with new innovations. Let’s not kid ourselves. There is no innovation that will be seen as “shit” in the eyes of a Halo 3 super fan. If you don’t like it, too bad. Halo is Art, shouldn’t be up to the fans to make, criticise? Sure, that’s how art is treated.
eliarevalo But certain arts have a formula that made them loved and popular. Breaking the design that is the foundation is when Halo messes up-Bungie broke their own art when they went against their design philosophy of the art that was in every aspect of the game. 343i ignore this design formula so blatantly people wonder why it’s on life support and the community is fractured-there is a way to innovate for the future where 343i could make a better Halo than Bungie ever did,I hope you’ve actually watched the video-sandbox innovations like Breathe Of the Wild did is how you innovate while not breaking the core design.
I bet you were super frustrated when you discovered that your cam was blurry the whole time. But I'm glad you kept it and made it into a joke. It still works 100%. Never forget that a video can be more than just the sum of its parts!

@@MarioGuevaraC I think he's just salty that the game changed, really. I fucking hated exo movements in Call of Duty but I'm not claiming regular the classic move style is better. The point? He doesn't like new Halo and he's trying to justify his irrational hatred of it by basing it off of his subjective preference for smaller map sizes and easier combat system. He complains about map size being too large because of the movement system. There is nothing wrong with having a large map, it's a matter of preference. He complains that there is no reason to use a warthog or scorpion tank anymore because he is now far more mobile on foot. Not only is that wrong, he's more _agile_ on foot, but he completely disregarded the benefits offered by vehicles that he just spoke of. The slow scorpion tank benefits from large maps because it's harder to ambush them now. Warthogs were always useless pieces of crap, unless you had a gunner, that were only really used to run down other players in one of the most cheap ways of getting a kill. He bitches that the Covenant weapons are now hitscan like the UNSC ones because players are more agile and the maps are larger. His reason for this is that in Campaign mode, it was easier to get in close and kill Covies but now it's peak 'n and out of cover to shoot enemies. The irony here is that he's not utelizing his agility that was given to him and he's using the campaign to justify a complaint about the multiplayer. He's just bitching because it's no longer a built the way he likes it, they are bad arguments.
sprint seems to be nerfed a bit, it doesnt look as fast anymore (and there is no spartan charge). the climbing was always fine to me, same with the sliding.

15:00 onwards - I know people who play all the generic shooters and have never played the OG Halo games.. I always try and explain to them that the reason why I don't play the generic games and still play the OG halo games is because unlike the generic shooters where the same thing happens over and over again (running through rooms with 3 or more entrances/exits and pulling the trigger faster than the other player), the OG halo games (especially in multiplayer) would generate moments and experiences that were unique on a regular basis.

now is as good a time as ever, since they're in the process of porting the games to PC with Master Chief Collection. And on Steam you can buy each game separately for like 10 bucks a pop.
Wait until the end of July, because 343 industries(developers of halo) will release halo 3. I'd say Halo 3 is the best halo game in the franchise right after halo 2 and reach. I've been playing the pre-release beta and it is exactly how I remembered playing back in 2008. Just practice practice practice because it's definitely way harder than Call of duty.
Y'know, when you first posed the question "should sprint be in Halo?" my first reaction was "sure, why not? Who cares?" But by the end of the video you made a pretty good case.

From the abilities, to the ridiculous bullet magnetism, new halos seem to just.. be built for children. 343 halos reward everything and its just too much too often.

I don't play Halo, but I keep coming back to this video, because it's fun to listen to Chris talking about things he likes and is passionate about
When doom eternal came out some people were upset that it was "just an arena shooter" as if arena shooters were inherently icky lepers to be avoided.
I just got Halo 3 on 360, playing through the campaign is really fun.
Such a good video!
Now we just have to wait for the gameplay reveal and pray old Halo movement is back.
Imagine grapple hooking a grenade, whipping it 360 and launching it back at your enemies.
Give it proximity detonation after grappling too for some aerial nade shenanigans
Imagine grappling your teammates grenade back towards them, and then picking up their sniper
I didn't think I'd like this because I don't really care for FPS game in general, but I still enjoyed it. The ideas you share aren't limited to FPS games, and the way you describe Halo makes it easier to see what others find in FPS games even if I don't find it myself by playing them. Am I the only one that stood up and clapped when Chris started talking about getting laser beamed by hyper accurate weapons? God that is my biggest issue. Halo 3 BR is king. Even Bungie understood this in Reach when they added bloom. As awful as bloom is it made since why it was there.
See my problem is even now on Halo 3 PC on small maps like BlackOut? Guardian? Guess what? Youre going to get beamed across the map by what? A BR. No escaping it. Matter fact, bloom doesnt even allow you to be accurate at a long distance because the bullets are more inaccurate the bigger it is across a distance.
I honestly think that bloom was good for the dmr, but not for anything else. It forced you to pace your shots so you couldn't just laser people.
@@UnifiedEntity that just means you got outplayed by someone who’s used to a projectile base gun, someone who actually knows how to lead their shots.

Gears 5, doesn't appear or is very low on Xbox most played games...on Mexico 8th most played game just below minecraft as i write this comment, Halo 5? Just over Gears 5 on USA, on Latinamerica is the 15th most played game, Microsoft needs to win the confidence of the USA player, because in latinamerica they're almost the perfect company, not so long ago they absorved a new tax created in Mexico that make the games 16% more expensive on all platforms...the result?
