Hahaha, I actually liked her choice initially I thought the ENTJ song would have been better for ENTP but after listening to the song (which seemed really intuitive to me personally and it was hysterical to hear her describe it as esoteric without coming to a point)
But I realized it actually captures a sort of little known aspect of the ENTP ( generally an optimistic type) I like to call the dark before the dawn moment. Because the ENTP is so internally logical but also exploring the emotional world which is so often marked by senseless violence and injustice (kinda felt like there was a BLM reference in there) it causes a lot of turmoil and discomfort- especially because even when motivated ENTPs can feel paralyzed by the various options and not know how to help. To me this song captures that feeling of wanting to hide away and not needing to make those hard calls but finding the strength to do it anyway (once the Si engine is full again and the Fe is charged from being on stage)
But that’s just how I heard it!

Also you got ENFP’s so spot on that I feel called out with the duality of self and it wasn’t something I was previously aware of, that I now recognise is true for me! I just knew from the “I was born in the arms of imaginary friends of imaginary friends” because the amount of times I have wrote about imaginary friends in poems and songs is a lot!

  • @MichaelHill-sg8ks

Interesting choice for the INTP. Yes, it's true that we are more prone to nihilism and atheism than most types. I suppose that's because our relentless drive for the truth and understanding makes us unable to really resonate with anything personally unless we feel like it makes sense. At a personal level, this is what drove me to philosophy and, far from making me a nihilistic atheist, it also led me to an incredibly sure belief in the Christian God because, all of a sudden, what I was told to accept on faith before now made logical sense to me and seemed to be the most reasonable conclusion to believe in.
In my own not so humble opinion, I actually think that "Epitaph," by King Crimson is a great INTP song because of how it deals with a sense of confusion and despondency at the human condition. It appeals to the wisdom of the past and wonders why it's all being ignored, a very Ti-Si trait. The lyrics aren't primarily dealing with things that are personal to the singer but are abstract references to real things, very Ne like. Even the song itself is quite slow and dour, like a funeral march; and the singer sounds incredibly bitter and sad throughout. There is a certain tone of bitterness and cynicism in the entire song that us Ti types can be prone to in our darker moments. And, to top it all off, the chorus always ends with a line saying that he'll be crying at our fates: a strong indication towards that pesky inferior Fe. We INTPs typically just wish that everyone would get along and don't understand why people are so eager in the rush to hurt and kill each other. One of the most overlooked things about the INTP is that we often try to build a logical system for ethics in order to know how ourselves and others ought to behave in the world.

    • @Sean-Ax
      @Sean-Ax Рік тому +2

Probably my favorite song choice for the INTP so far. I picked mine solely based in musical content (Meshuggah - Dancers to a Discordant System) rather than lyrical content because I don't ever really relate to or analyze lyrics, but complex music theory concepts are my jam. I had a preference off the bat for the INTP song to be proggy, and your choice of King Crimson DEFINITELY fills that role, and I like your reason for choosing those lyrics based on your description of them, what with lack of personal attatchment to things (sentimental things, I guess).

@@bbhdd6181 I wouldn't say I was raised Christian since there was a mix of views in my family, including Christian. Everyone was encouraged to come to their own conclusions. I would say that I became a Christian around the age of 14 or so after reading the gospels and then a ton of books on apologetics, which then began my lifelong love of philosophy.

while I do like the choice for INFP, I think another AMAZING choice would be Soft Universe by AURORA. she’s a fellow INFP and honestly like all of her songs just really speak to the sensitivity and care of the type. but I think this song in particular really shows off a lot of Fi and a lot of the abstract language kinda reminds me of how my Ne leads me off into daydreams and such. the leading lines “there’s ice in my water, and when I drink it cuts my tongue” followed by “there’s glass on the playground, it cuts my skin when I run” reminds me a lot of how the world can feel quite abrasive and really not built for an INFP along with like a slight disdain for mundanity. then the chorus “speak to me… with love in your words, make for me… a soft universe” pulls me again to the want for a softer and more sensitive and loving world. this may be kinda tainted by my own Fi values but a lot of other INFP I know kinda have similar sentiments for just wishing the world was a kinder place in a lot of ways.
equally I think Daydreamer by AURORA is another perfect song, and they both feel SO incredibly fitting that I had to put both in here. it’s really just a song lamenting about the fact that the world expects us to push away our dreams, our childlike nature, our curiosity and to trade it for for a more mundane existence. the chorus “and we become nighttime dreamers, street walkers, small talkers. when we should be daydreamers, moon walkers, and dream talkers” it really just kinda plays into FiNe and kinda a wish that more people saw the magic in the world. there’s a lot of other supporting lyrics in both songs but those were kinda the main points I thought of. I’d highly suggest checking out at least these songs but a lot of AURORA’s other music is fantastic as well, she’s definitely one of my fav artists.

Is she officially typed? Or is this your opinion? Out of curiosity, if it s your typing, why/how did you come up with it?

@@elisa4620 if you listen to her music, hear her talk, hear her views on the world, her mannerisms, her insights into things. It all just SCREAMS INFP and like I see a lot of myself reflected in her. I feel like if I had grown up in a more nurturing environment I would have turned out quite similar to her if I'm being honest. she's like an INFP minus the fear and self-doubt that often gets drilled into you when you're young. but anyways, most all of her language is DRENCHED in Fi and she always just expresses what she's thinking or feeling even if it might make people a bit uncomfortable (very confident Fi). And she portrays a lot more of the dreamy and abstract conceptual thinking that an INFP would have that makes me think she isn't an ISFP, and tends to seem less in the moment and more off in another place. plus I tend to notice that most ISFP tend to make music more to express themselves whereas INFP tend to have more of a message behind it? could just be bias in the sample I have but that tends to be a pattern that I've noticed.

As an ENTJ, I’d say Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries fits us uniquely well. Either that or Shostakovich’s Symphony no. 7 “Leningrad”. More boldly, perhaps the Prelude to Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde is apt as well-it’s endlessly complex and tightly woven by an intense, all-encompassing emotional longing. In other words, perhaps just what one might find peering deep into the psyche of an ENTJ or INTJ.

Decent song selection for INTP (I enjoyed every song suggested.). However I think it focuses on something that isn't that important to an INTP. It's looking at the consequences of over analysis, when it's the process of playing with the idea that is central. There is a reason why Ti is so important, and why it gets in the way of accepting a simplified conception of god. Having said that, I think Lateralus by Tool always felt like a good fit for the type. The song examines the process of exploring an idea, playing with a concept, letting an idea build and expand. Then the song examines how crippling to that process fixating on it can be. To over think and over analyze you kill the true ability to actually understand the idea you are playing with.
Add to the lyrics the song's structure and building complexity reinforces the idea. The fact the beat is based around the Fibonacci sequence a numerical pattern omnipresent all throughout nature. Yet isn't limited to it, the rational interwoven with the imaginative. The structure and rigidity of the patterns of the natural world giving a framework with which to expand and grow creatively also seems apropos. There is something about the song in it's totality, the summation of it's parts that speaks to what it means to be intellectually curious and to play with an idea without fixating on it. Which I think could be argued is central to the INTP experience.
Your selection plays with the idea that rationality leads to nihilism, and often the most appropriate means of dealing with that is distraction. The pain of meaninglessness isn't there because something shiny is flashed in front of my face and I'm able to disappear in the moment. Your song selection is a critique on behaviour and a common tactic used to deal with existential dread. Lateralus is an artisitic representation of the process of exploring an idea. The experience, the excitement, the novelty of the process of exploring an idea. Often times when the process is over used , you end up with nihilism as a common destination. Reason is very good at breaking things down or error checking, but the process itself is exhilarating and uplifting. Like flashing images of reality all of them a little bit off, but with each one holding an outline of the truth. They're then moved so fast that the oulines begin to fuse together into the shape of what is real underneath.
Gronlandic is an observation of the seeming final destination, or the trap that many overly rational people fall into. The destination isn't really that important to most INTP I don't think. Lateralus looks at the process, and hints at important philosophical principles for avoiding the pitfalls of over thinking, while simultaneously over thinking. (Using the Fibonacci sequence as a rythmic to build the song around, it plays with both sides very Ne.) Sorry for the length if you read this, your videos are always entertaining and think you for making them.

Hah, I like "Little Dark Age" for ENTP. It's actually a pretty clear song, especially when you understand how Ne + Ti grapples with emotions. See, what's going on here is that Ne is trying to...distract, might be the best word for it...from the song's inner emotional turmoil. But the key lyric for understanding this song is this one:
"I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange"
They're telling you the emotion they're trying to make sense of, and that they can't make sense of it, right here. They also keep circling back to it. That's quite important! They're struggling to process it. It's like an anchor that's holding Ne down. They're pushing against it, but can't achieve liftoff. Oof mixed metaphors. Oh well, Shakespeare mixed his metaphors too...Anyhoo, what was I saying? Oh yeah, when I'm stuck in a loop and can't work my way out of something I tend to return to a controlling image and then work on a new approach from there. So that's quite NTPish, I think.
As far as "I Will Possess Your Heart" by DCfC? Lolno. Way too controlling. Way better for ISTPs is "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails methinks. I've long remarked on how it's pretty on the nose of how Ti struggles to understand and process emotions:
    "I broke apart my insides
(Help me) I've got no soul to tell
(Help me) the only thing that works for me
Help me get away from myself"
The juxtaposition with the earthy lyrics is very on the nose for how ISTP Ti deals with their apperception of the world, I think.
    "My whole existence is flawed
You get me closer to God"
...as far as my own type? Dunno actually. Does that matter?

Keane... I never really explored their music. I love "Everybody's changing" though. Atlantic: I gave it a listen, and I must say, it touched me deeply. Especially because I have been going through some shite with someone (Which is healing now), so I sent them this piece, which they loved too (I'm an INFP, he is an INFJ). I will start exploring their stuff more. So thank you for this

I am so happy to see two Keane songs on your playlist! The songwriter for Keane is INFP (as far as I can tell) so it's no surprise Atlantic was on your list. As I was watching your video I was admiring how easily you put into words your feelings and rationale for picking each song, wishing I could do that too. It felt like you were reading my mind when for the INFJ you mentioned that struggle to put our ideas out into the sensory world. Well done!

Why do people think we're evil? It's like thinking Buffy's evil 'cause she's got this job killing vampires- oh, and you're all welcome for the dead vampires.....(smh). If I was going to pick an INTJ song it would be 'Sway' by the Rolling Stones from fifty years ago, with an eighty year old guitar riff in it, because it's not like any of the big questions or problems ever change. Print the lyric sheet in Chaucer's english with gold illumination to make it better still...

this was fun, and I also loved listening to Spotify's radio station based on the playlist. It's a jam, and a lot of the songs that came up seemed very type representative too. E.g. You're Dead by Norma Tanega has strong ENTJ vibes for me. Planning out your life, trying to avoid getting tangled up with emotions, distrusting the world but finally selling out just to get by.

Okay, the infj song encapsulates me immaculately. I felt my heart burning an my eyes welling up when you said, "That experience of having this really rich, abstract interior life of, like, aaalll of these possible visions that are sooo nuanced in how they could portray and the subject that they are so attached to, it probably can be really frustrating when they don't have adequate words to convey these ideas and visions to other people," especially after you emphasised on 'so' and 'all,' which implied how you do understand how overwhelmingly agitating it can get when we cannot splash the colours of our mind on the canvas as exuberantly as they exist in our imagination.
The way the lyricist described their inner world with terms like "in a castle dark or in a fortress strong" as if it were some fantasy novel is precisely the aura one would feel if they were to catch a glimpse into the images that flash in our minds and read a line or two of the tales that our minds unravel.
The degree if hardwork and thought it must have taken to produce this video is apparent. I commend you for being able to put your heart and soul into this youtube channel with such dedication. Thank you.

I recently was trying to explain to a friend of mine how I feel, oddly enough, I was using some of the same metaphors, like feeling like a ghost, or the line "I'm just tryin' to understand the feelings that you lack." Although the song sounds as though it was inspired by a failing/failed romantic relationship, it really eerily resonated with me. Great choice.

As an ENFJ, I've always thought What's Up? by 4 non blondes is an *iconic* example of how we're very curious about the nature of the world and the people in it, but after getting so wrapped up and emotional about it we sit back and say "screw it, let's just enjoy life while we have it." It also has the implication of lifelong planning for some intangible goal involving ourselves and others. I feel like the energy and sound fit as well. It's upbeat but kind of pensive and quiet at times. And I just noticed the line "I'm feeling peculiar" is hilarious because of our lack of Fi lmao. It's so interesting how you chose a song with very similar focuses as I did, but mine didn't account for Fe quite as well.

As a Christian and an INTP, I can say that song really resonates even a believer's mind. I have these struggles everyday in my life, and I managed to put God in my systems of thought, but man, it was and is a long journey (and C. G. Jung was one of my greatest inspiration on it, when I first read his writings on archetypes and the collective unconscious, I was like " oh, that actually makes sense").
I had my nihilistic episodes in my life, and I don't deny that I constantly feel the pull of nihilism all the time. I simply had to accept that the constant doubts are part of how I believe, that I will never be able to believe with such emotional charge as some others. My belief is like Jacob's dream, a permanent, steady-state struggle of thoughts. But at the end of the day, I always wish God to be my sparring partner in my head. I accepted that even the best systems I can figure out will always unravel at the edges, and I will never find the ultimate solution to everything. I just have to believe that the ultimate solution exists, if there is one, it must be something like God, and I might catch glimpses of it one day.

As an INFP, I love the song you typed for us! I have a wide-variety of music tastes but I've yet stumble upon Atlantic by Keane. I love it! (adds it to a personal playlist)
Meanwhile, speaking of songs, some of my favorites are: Home by Cavetown, The Precipice by the Classic Crime, Just For Once by Abandoning Sunday, Toxic Thoughts by Faith Marie and Animal by Noah Kahan.
The common theme of these songs they are melancholic and the singers are able to go in-depth about how they express what they feel on the inside. It's funny that I also just realize all these singers are probably IxFx due to some of them can be straightforward and some add a little bit of abstract at the same time. ESPECIALLY Cavetown. Gosh, his songs are superb.

One of my favourites of his is talk to me, especially "you don't have to be a prodigy to be unique" because every time it just *hits* me and makes me remember that, oh yeah, I *don't* have to be a prodigy to be unique. Another artist I really like is Ricky Montgomery, because his music has certain like idk what to call them but like...waves? to them get me so emotionally involved in them, and you can just hear the emotion in his voice. I also love Paramore's All I wanted (honestly all of their songs in general), and Beach bunny as well. Sorry for the long comment, I just started out trying to say that I also love Cavetown but then I got carried away lol

Personally I'd choose something like "Clocks" or "Paradise" by Coldplay, or alternatively, "Miss Freelove '69" by Hoodoo Gurus. I think if you listen as if the singer is the Enfj, it fits well. They probably represent the Fe-Se side of Enfj's more than Ni, but in saying that, I think music is very much rooted in Se to begin with. Regardless, they're absolute BANGERS. Seriously. I once got the idea to try and put together a playlist of 10 songs that I thought were a good description of my personality type, and it was difficult to cut it down to 10 (granted I know an immense amount of songs, but still). I can only imagine how hard it must have been to whittle it down to one for your personality, but then you do the same for the other 15 types. Top that off both with quite a set of good descriptions of why each fit for each type, and a good taste in music, and that was awesome!
I quite enjoyed the song you came up with for the ISFJ. I've never heard of it or the one who sings it before, but it was a fun and bouncy song (my view perhaps tempered a bit by having found the music video to it when I searched the lyrics to be enjoyable). If you're ever looking for a challenge, it would be quite interesting to see what you would do with the idea of a short playlist for each type that describes that type. One thing I definitely agree with that you said in the video, "Cat's in The Cradle" is definitely quite a brutal song to listen to. Hits one right in the feelers every time.

Clearly a lot of work went behind this video! It makes me wonder if I should take up on creating a 16 personalities song list from a finite list, like every #1 song...

INFJ, I love the song, loved it way back when, never really considered the words before. Lately I listen to a lot of Alanis Morrisett. Thank U is high on the list. Aurora was mentioned in comments, I really like her song, Warrior. Thank you Kristen, great work!

This video is amazing, so fun and insightful! (So many bangers as well as intriguing songs I'll be listening to later for sure!) I'd love to see another song recommendation video, whether it would be "16 Personalities as 16 Keane Songs" or something else. Also 44:09 this bit made me think of Shades of Gray by The Monkees :)

Hi Kristin! Right now I’m too busy to binge watch all the video but the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the tittle is that I would love to see the same video but about the enneagram, if you are into it as well, in general I would love to see you talk about the enneagram and not only about the Mbti.

I like how for the te and Ti types, I often had to search the lyrics to get the meaning of the melody, but many of the Fi songs put the melody first and the lyrics sort of acted like another instrument. Thanks for the video!!

ENTP here that really loved the song you chose for ENTP. It's even music I would listen to. Will probably listen to it later again! Also, because you mentioned this certain song, one of my fav songs is in fact Heal the World by Michael Jackson. The glowing beaming beacon of wholesomeness in my life.

My ENTP bf also has a (secret) soft spot for wholesomeness and sentimentality. For him, it's "Dancing in the Moonlight" 🌙

Typo in the timestamps: ESFJ should be listed at 39:40.

I absolutely loved this video! That said, as an ESTP, I would consider even It Don't Move Me to be dwelling too much on the past! lol A song more like Thunder - by Imagine Dragons would be more like the ESTP, as its focus is on spontaneous action.
