I used to make these in the 80's with embroidery thread. Your process of slowly introducing each row is brilliant however you are working right to left backwards, I am used to going the opposite direction and starting with all of the threads tied in a knot. Your way is elegant but will take me a minute to figure it out. Thanks for sharing. It is interesting how these macrame bracelets never get old.
That is awesome 😃 Yeah, tying these with embroidery floss is actually much easier! The waxed cord is thicker and less bendable, so starting it with a large overhand knot would be super bulky and uncomfortable to wear. Yes, macrame bracelets never go out of style 😃 Thanks so much for watching!
@@knackforknots wax cord is soo nice. I love the clean finish and the waterproof nature of the material. I don't think I want to go back to the other materials.
I love this braid. It's just like making the braid on non waxed thread. I can do this one w/ the waxed thread. I'll def give this a shot. Thanks so much for sharing. I give this a like. And btw, I subbed your channel.😄
Thank you for this tutorial! I really like this bracelet and have been trying to make one myself (in just one color but that doesn't make much difference I suppose). The problem is that the side where I end the knots (left in this video) comes up and keeps twisting. After just a few rows the whole bracelet is twisted and I have to pull the left cord to make it flat again, but as soon as I release it, it just shoots back. (Kind of difficult to explain, hope you understand). The pattern looks perfectly fine though. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or how I can fix this?
Lizz4927 are you doing 2 knots per piece of thread? My friend had a similar problem where the bracelet would just curl up because she was only doing 1 knot on each thread. Try doing 2 knots and it should work. Hope this helps!
Since it's wax and any ends can be cut and burned ...can't we start it regular ...like a regular candy striped friendship bracelet? Or will pattern not be the same. ? I'm lost on starting it
How much different would this be if just using one color for a bracelet? I understand I could just mimic the tutorial with the same color instead of different ones but is there a simpler way with just one color instead?
The steps to set up would still be the same. I can't think of any steps that would really be easier with 1 colour at the moment, sorry! It would be a bit easier to end the bracelet, since you don't have to worry about completing a colour block. That would simplify this pattern a bit :) Best of luck!!
i’m really confused and frustrated because at the end, where you add the ten inch white strand and twist it, it doesn’t stay twisted. i tie it and then it untwists. what can i do to fix this??
Hi! Thanks for your question. To keep them from untwisting, make sure that you are twisting each of the end ties in the same direction as one another. Likewise, make sure that you are twisting the cords in the same direction as the "pre-existing" twist of the actual cord. Hope that helps! :)
I have questions about durability. Does the wax melt in hot days? The person I'm making it for lives near the equator, and cooks a lot. I want it to be waterproof but I'm also worried about the wax. Also, about how quickly does the bracelet wear out?
I havent had any problems with it melting on hot days so far! The waxed polyester cord has not worn out in the year and a bit that I've been wearing them :)
Hey Kate! Make sure you are twisting both the strings in the same direction. It helps to clip your bracelet to a clipboard or tape it down first. Hopefully that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :) Thanks for watching!
So what if I want to make one with 4 colors, and I want the first color to be like 5 inches in length and same with the second. But for the 3rd and 4th I only want like 2 inches then 1 inch (being the middle) and then to mirror the pattern until the end, how would I do that
Hey! There are only 2 blue because of the way I initially set it up. I definitely could have (and should have) added another strand of blue in the same way shown for the other colours but I unfortunately didn't 😅
Hey there! One thing I have learned since making this video is to ensure the string is not submerged in the flame. Rather, make sure that the string is *just* close enough to the flame to melt, but not actually held in the fire. This helps to prevent the burnt ends! I have also noticed that any charred ends have become less intense over time with wash and wear! Hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching :)
+Natalie Badir yes, just make sure you don't use flames to seal the ends, because they would just burn! There are special glues you can use to seal the ends instead, I bought some at Michael's! :)
+Knack for Knots okay thanks! Also I watched a UA-cam video on how you can "make your own wax thread" by running embroidery thread over beeswax, do you know if that would work like the pre-waxed polyester thread or is it not worth doing?
I coated a strand of embroidery floss REALLY well with a stick of beeswax like in that video. It felt super promising, but I tried melting the ends with my lighter and it just burned :( maybe melting some beeswax and dipping the ends in to seal it would work? I might give it a try this week. Otherwise the glue I use for sealing any loose ends in embroidery floss bracelets is called "G-S Hypo Cement"
Thanks for your feedback, Ava! Yes, it is a just a candy stripe! The only part I modified was the start and end in order to make it "seamless"! That's the trickiest part. Personally, I don't like huge overhand knots of waxed polyester cord because it feels uncomfortable on my wrist! 😅

About how long does it take to make this bracelet?
