Became aware of the CMP. I am waiting to attend and complete Air Force BMT before I purchase an M1 Garand. Wish me luck. I'll settle for the field grade
In order for your channel to be practical, it is supposed to take into account the global situation and the difficulty of movement due to the Corona pandemic.. I suggest that you provide a full description of the weapon and its price, in addition to providing the shipping and maintenance service before shipment as paid services. I am a fan of M1 Garand, and other types of vintage weapons. I advise you to pay attention to clear photography and think about the proposal that I presented to you.
Thanks for the quick reply.. I just watched the video today. I hope you will forgive me. What I meant by maintenance is polishing and refurbishment, because gun maintenance workshops are very limited here.
I picked up a field grade the other day. All the parts are from 1942-1943. Stock is new cmp but I just found a usgi original stock that Im going to replace it with.
Your 9/42 trigger assembly is actually better than the newer one. The spring tension holding the trigger assembly stays tighter longer than the newer design.
Fuckin' rah. I'm looking to pick one up myself pretty soon. Do you recommend the service grade or field grade for someone looking for a WWII serial number? I'm not looking to shoot it a whole lot, maybe once every couple months or so.
It’s all luck of the draw. My service is ww2 and the 3 fields, one is a Korean War. If u can swing it I’d order at least 2 of whatever grade or one of each. And sell the one u don’t want, u can sell for $800-1200 easy and will make the one u keep cost less w ur profit
@@devildog_iii3492 My M1 Garand has the Winchester receiver and mostly winchester parts a 55 SA barrel and a SA bolt and the receiver ser. 3 is in the 2 million range puts it in the 1943 era I think !!! Its a beautiful rifle and hardly no dings in the stock !!!!
Yea they’re good to go. If u can’t decide, go w the service. Overall better finish and barrel for $100 more. The only thing I don’t like about my service is the new stock, I like the worn finish on my fields a little better. But the service is a better shooter.
Honestly, it looks like it boils down to whether you want a better ewer looking stock and maybe an extra 25% bluing when comparing the service and field grades. I'm going to save for a field grade, since I'm not a hardcore garand collector. I just want one because they are so iconic, and my dad use to reminisce about the "cheap $100 garand at the local pawnshop". I'm more of a Mauser man.
your dope tag is Turkish........ from the recent Turkish returns....... you can tell by the lighter stock as well........ my gut tells me their both Turkish Returns but either way nice review.......how many M1's have you purchased from CMP?
Thanks for the video. I only became aware of the CMP today, and I'm about to place my order for a field grade. Out of the field grades you've purchased from them, how many had mismatching wood parts? I'll be happy with whatever I get, but it would be nice to have a uniform looking rifle.
Most of them came with some sort of mismatched stains. Some worse than others. I’m about to order 4 field and 4 service grades, and hoping to be able to swap out for matches. And don’t want any new wood stocks either
@@devildog_iii3492 My main preference is to not have a new manufacture stock. I like the character of the older ones. Does it usually take the full 6-8 weeks for shipping?
It's unsettling that the CMP would sell you a rifle with a broken elevation adjustment... I like the fact that there's an organization out there that flips Garands for a good price.. but damn, really? Makes me think twice about ordering one from them. Do they at least warn buyers that the rifles may not be 100% functional?
It would be unsettling if they made you live with it. But their customer service is top notch. Their inspection process is not flawless but they always make it right in the end. Buy with confidence. Any problem you may have is just an email away from being solved, for free.
It happens. These are 75 year old rifles. I received a CMP rifle with a loose elevation knob and a cracked stock. Notified CMP and they promptly sent me a new part and an almost mint condition stock. They're not trying to rip people off. But don't expect a brand new rifle with mint condition parts.
I've ordered several rifles from the CMP and that happens more often than you would think. I got one M1 with a bad gas cylinder and didn't find out about it until I sent it to there custom shop for repairs, but they were running low on gas cylinders and weren't able to replace it. I got another M1 with a bad base plate on the rear sight aperture that caused it to be lose, that they did replace for free. I got another M1 from them where the safety just stopped working on the gun and siezed up entirely about a week after I got the rifle. So that rifle had no safety at all, I sent that one to Miltech to be repaired I believe.
I’ve gotten ww2 ones in both grades. It’s luck of the draw. There’s descriptions of the grades on the CMP website. But usually service muzzle and throat will gauge better, metal will be less worn, and will have better/new stock.
You could put in a sticky note with your request, and maybe it will get fulfilled. Won’t always happen, but I asked for a nice condition HRA recently and got a sweet almost all original HRA. Never know, but always worth a shot.
Devildog Minuteman , I tried that. My mom said no, like many mothers would. My father said will have to tough it out till 21! I have not stopped asking, and will continue to, but it looks like I got 2 years to go.
No, these are likely the rifles they just got back from the Philippines or Turkey. There’s no way to tell thou. The Korean rifles are a long way away from coming back still. The Civilian Marksmanship Program sells them. Depending on condition, prices range from $550 to over $7000 on some of the auctions.
My grandfather took a M1 Garand off a dead marine he shot for a trophy he’s 96 and still has it looks pretty good I think he took it in 1944 cheers from japan 🇯🇵
Crazy to hear stories from the other side. I’m a Marine and My Great Uncle gave me a Type 38, a sword and a yosegaki hinomaru he took off a dead Japanese soldier on Iwo. My grandfather was a Omaha beach vet
Devildog Minuteman he has a KA-BAR as well and a few teeth he took from another dead marine I think the teeth part is rather sick but I guess that’s how grim it was back then take care
Thanks for the advice. Yeah only 1 Garand for me, there's too many guns out there that I want for me to justify buying more than 1 type of the same lol

Oh ok, got it. Where are you? I will put that on a video list soon
@@devildog_iii3492 Thank for positive reply .. I'm from Sudan, I live in Sultanate of Oman.
Those are beautiful examples of a battle worn finish with out the worn out and rusted parts.

Dang those look nice. So much history in them. They are beautiful.

U got it! Good luck w the purchase, I’m waiting to see if my # gets picked for one of the 1911s..
Nice birch wood on the 1953 model. I can't believe they sent out a rifle that has issues with the rear sight. Bummer.
Thanks. It all got taken care of, CMP is good about that stuff.

Basically that and a little more muzzle and throat wear. I like my mausers too
Did you redo the finish on those? Or did they come from CMP as shown?
That’s how they came, I usually don’t refinish them
Never lend you weapon or your woman to a "friend".
Haha. Don’t worry, I was compensated.
Get that rifle back from your friend. My uncle loaned his winchester 94 in .30-30 to a "friend" and never saw it again.
It’s paid for now haha. A 94 idk if I’d let out of my sight thou..
