Attempting to find out why part of the preamp isn't working, a look at the circuit, a lot of waffle & mucking about.

Looks like a lot of fun 🤨 I'm glad I'm not the only one who swears when doing this stuff! This may be the saddest comment you've ever had on a video but I'm pretty sure that those pink resistors are Dubilier (I've even got some original catalogues somewhere). I've found these and Welwyn to be fine but Painton not so good. Cheers

Aye, fun all day long. Like a pigeon who can't walk without bobbing it's head, I can't function without F ing & Jeffing. Ahh, Dubilier's eh? The Golden age of British manufacturing. Painton made some excellent R's like the panclimatic series & I have other NOS Painton's that are still bob on over 60 years later. TFW.

Having been nailed once by a bad new capacitor and costing me hours of wasted time, I make it a policy to test every single part I use in a repair or project. Many "new" parts can be way out of tolerance. Here in old radios & TV sets, if it is a capacitor that says "Micamold" on it, it gets automatically gets replaced with a new silver mica that is epoxy coated. Same on resistors, I test every one. The older resistors that are in brown insulating medium seem to go way out of tolerance, even the NOS ones. I seldom find a NOS carbon film resistor that is bad out of the pkg.
The black pin straightener came on some of the pins from CRT's to protect them.
Have you done a resistance comparison between the working side and the non working side?

@@diabolicalartificer That was a bummer. That unit is likely to be a nightmare to find the problem, but you have the patience to do it. Me, I have a 10 lb sledge...LOL
