In today's mario video we are going to look at the origin, secrets, timeline, story, lore, mysteries and history of the bosses seen in the #supermario games made by nintendo. Throughout the years there have been a lot mario games like super mario world, super mario 64, super mario sunshine, new super mario bros, new super mario galaxy, super mario 3d land, super mario 3d world, super mario run, super mario bros 3 and not too long ago they released the new super Mario odyssey for the nintendo switch which has all kinds of new characters like cappy and locations like the sand kingdom, new donk city and bowsers kingdom. In these games we have seen power ups like the fire flower, ice flower, super mushroom, mega mushroom, super star, hammer suit, spring mushroom and way more. But there were power ups that helped mario, luigi, toad, princess peach, rosalina and the others to escape bowser, the broodals, koopalings and bowser jr. I think all the Shy Guys are the children of Luigi. When the mask fell off in Mario Tennis Luigi was just horrified to see an identical face to his own.
My thoughts exactly. I remember watching the winning scene and luigi got freaked out by his face revealing in front of him. I wonder what type of face really is.

Something that supports the second theory is that the name “Phanto” obviously means phantom. Phanto could literally be dead Shy guys. I mean you see them just resting inside vases, which could be the equivalent of a tomb for them. They only start chasing you if you take the key, which might be considered desecration to them, which obviously makes them mad.

I think the theory that shy guy's mask is its actual face makes since. That's why in Mario strikers charged there's a cutscene where shy guy changes his facial features. And beneath it is nothing. That's why Luigi was spooked. He didn't expect to see nothing there.

There is an actual mistake about the emotion in shy guys, it could be one or the other. In paper Mario origami king, you play a little mini game where you guess a shy guys emotions, and all you have to do is wait to read their line and they don’t change their mask at all. This could be a goof, a different race of shy guys, but check into paper Mario origami king and this could help a little

using it as a source of information (ESPECIALLY for a post M&L:PJ game) wouldn't really work in context of the actual mario canon

I always thought shy guys may have been some kind of like hollow faced being. And the mask was the actual face, since we seen it can emote. They might be some type of phantom that has taken possession of a hooded coat with a belt and shoes, and using the mask as a face. Kind of reminds me of the hexadecimal character from reboot, her mask could emote But when it was removed she was just a hollow faced being
When I was younger my brother told me that it was a toad born without a mushroom.
I always thought that they might just be rebel toads. But I really like the boo theory

I honestly feel like the Shy Guys and Snifits worship the Phantos as some kind of god. This could explain why they wear mostly red and white too, as a way to replicate the color palate of the Phantos.

Why not both? A boo that came across the living mask. The mask helps with the boos anxeity, helps interpret their emotions, the boo helps the mask function properly and not have to fly around everywhere and can finally be worn by something. It would be dope that two different enemies worked together to make a complete new enemy type
Yeah, like Eye-Brawl from skylanders. The eyes and Headless beings were at war for years and years. When they got bored of fighting, they teamed up. The eye places itself on top of the headless being and creates a powerful duo.
If you don't know what Skylanders is, I'm not surprised xd
In Mario Power Tennis, shy Guy comes up the stairs to get his trophy. He trips, his mask falls off and Luigi is shocked and frightened. By hacking the game, we can see that it's just a dark circle with a black line of where the strap would be. In short, there's no face behind his mask because the mask is his face. So here's the real question we should ask;
What's under his robe? They could easily be the Mario equivalent of Mimikyu. They could just as easily be a dark shadowy figure wearing a robe just like how Mimikyu wears that porly made sheet of Pikachu.That's very creepy, unsettling and very interesting. That's my theory anyways. What do you all think?🤔😁
I like the idea if comparing Shy Guy to Mimikyu (mainly because Mimikyu is my favorite Pokémon).

It would be strange if Shy Guys are Boos since Boos werent created yet when SMB2 came out.
All the shy guys that were killed in SMB2 became boos in SMB3
I have a crazy thought about what they might be. There is a species of Shyguy called Beezo which is a winged shyguy that flies, it makes me wonder if Beezos might be a variation of Subcon, the little fairy creatures imprisoned by Wart who may have altered some of them to have insect wings and serve him, and some of these altered Subcons had their winds plucked forcing them to walk on the ground. Just a thought.
And don't forget about Snifits from the same game, who are essentially Shyguys with small cannons for mouths. They could all (Shyguys, Snifits, Beezos, Subcons, Phantos) be related in some way or another.
I personally think that Shy Guys are related to Fanto and the Ghost Guys' face can be their true face somehow

It could also be one of the several million Yoshi's Mario and Luigi jumped off of and dropped down a bottomless pit.
Maybe the Yoshi's came back as a ghost and put on that Shy Guy Costume, so they wouldn't have to face Mario or Luigi again.
They say Eeries from SMW are ghosts of Yoshis, and Eeries don’t hide their faces.
Though their eyes are closed, and Nintendo Power described them as flying in their sleep…
The Boo theory seems like a good one, but there are also Boo Guys (Shy Guy like ghost) in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island in the castle areas as well. I wonder if they too have a connection with the Boos and the other Ghost Guys in Luigi's Mansion as well? Big possibility I bet.
Maybe the Boo Guys are just normal Boos with their mask (Shy Guy's mask) without the whole costume.

If the shy guy's mask is a detachable face, if their mask is taken off maybe you would see something like a face with exposed muscle tissue.

Shy guys are masked mercenary Subrosians. You can see it even in Luigi's Mansion, when you remove The Mask from the Shy Guys Ghosts.

I mean i think Luigi would be equally scared if nothing was behind the mask and he realizes the mask was the face and they had a big black hole but we’re still somehow alive

IIRC, there are a handful of youkai that have the whole "the mask is their face" thing going on. Shy Guys were probably just a reference to that.
The insides of shyguys are just void, the robe is it's true body because they don't want people to know about it
Hello, Wily. I really enjoyed this video, as it is nice to talk about stuff that relates to the side Mario games. I hope you continue including small details of side games whenever possible.
As for what I think, Shy Guys are really mysterious. However, I do feel like both of your conclusions could hold some water, or maybe it could be a mix of the two. In the case of the Boo, besides the shyness, it is a small detail to note and might not mean much, but in Mario Power Tennis, Shy Guy's default partner in Doubles tournaments is Boo. As for the Phantos, the appearance of it looks similar to the mask of the Ghost Guy in Luigi's Mansion (again, a small detail that might not mean much in the end, since there is already a ghost Shy Guy enemy known as the Boo Guy).
Some video suggestions that I have include trying to guess who Donkey Kong is, trying to look at the lore that suggests Goombas are traitors to the Mushroom Kingdom, and maybe trying to look at Easter eggs or references to the main series in side games. Even if none of those ideas work out, I still am looking forward to seeing whatever you come up with.

Maybe it’s both because if they as ghosts they wearing the mask as a ghost but they found a costume and the could wear it because if they can attack Luigi they would be able to wear stuff and no go trough it but he lost his mask so he found a new one and the mask thought he was forgeten and not needed so he ran away that’s why he rarely shows up.
a little fact i discovered is when shy guy drops his mask in tennis (aka the game where luigi gets scared) the part of his model that would have a face is flat and basically looks like his clothes (its red with the brown thing that holds his mask up) while this was obviously done because the everage player wouldn't see it so there would be no point in making a face it's still interesting

Fanto is actually a shy guy if you look around UA-cam you will find A vid of Fanto he’s a Black and purple mixed and then when he in counters someone he will go into his mask form and the rest of them goes invisible

We need to look back to Mario bros 2 in that every standard enemy (eg.ninjis and those shy guys that hop) are depicted as plain white human shaped little creatures so it would make sense the shy guy would look like that and on the ninjis we see that the eyes look normal at least

My personal theory is that they’re some sort of Toad traitors. They have incredibly similar bodies even down to the shoes, they sound similar but lower pitched and if Luigi did find out Shy Guys are Toads that would be an incredibly fitting reaction. The only thing I really see against it is that the mushroom on Toad’s head probably would fit under Shy Guys hood.
Shyguys aren't the only ones with masks.. Tweeter, Beezo and even Subcon. But I guess we'll just have to pick on Shyguy for now!
Here’s an explanation to it all. Bowsers koopas or minions are immortal. Koopas become dry bones and goombas could very well become a ghost/boos if the goomba would want to walk again they just put on a red coat and mask and boom

I always thought they were masks that were brought to life by bowser's dark magic and they have the cloaks to look normal. The main is reason the mario strikers shy guy's mask holes move as if they WERE his face, so possibly luigi was scared because he saw nothing. I mean, if someone took off a mask and you saw nothing but a dark void, wouldn't you at least be a little freaked out?

Well I think the goombas when they die they become boos (A.K.A the ghost). Since the goombas are dead they are shy because they have been embarrassed by themselves being killed. I am happy to see someone else who thinks the Shy guy Ghost connection is a thing but. Let's get a bit deeper and darker remember that Manuel for SMB said the Residents of the Mushroom Kingdom have all been cursed and turned into all kinds of things Blocks,Veggies ect,etc. Maybe what's behind the mask is the shy Ghost of the former Residents of the Mushroom Kingdom who's Curse is Shyness/Social anxiety that prevented them from living life aside from where they lived in life. 🤔 That's my idea

My theory is that maybe the boos evolved into those bodyless masks and the bodyless masks were evolved into shy guys cuz that bodyless masks has both the colors of a boo and a Red shy guys so maybe the shy guys may evolve into a body with a color of rainbow maybe evolved like a turtle

Both theories could be valid if you reverse the first. Their mask is their face. Boos are the ghosts of dead shy guys. They're doomed to an eternity of being exposed without their "mask" for their crimes in life.
