- Tape in 1st coat to fill the joints better. Not essential but when your drywall has deep recesses you need to get it in there first coat.

Your flats need more mud. I always used a new knife to check ,proper fill the blade (on edge) slightly touches full span of flat(when dry it’s right on the money, and only requires 2 coats not 3 , the time spent 3rd coating would be better spent sitting in the Bar. ) if it doesn’t you can fine tune the setting on the box. If on your first coat with box set on 2 it is too much and 3 is hollow like yours fine tune your box . You can adjust an Ames box to 1000 of an inch.if there is no way to adjust your box….throw it in the trash

I can't figure out why I'm getting so tape drag with the Mud Box. Tried different consistencies but still dragging a lot. Any tips?
You guys banjo running tape mud too thin. Press the paper to far into bevels and the 3 coat your boxes. All i have is 2 box coats. An my box coat mud never shrinks below bevels. My pre fills are gaps a quarter inch 8th an inch in inside corners. And when i prefill im prefilling that half inch thickness of the board in those gaps.

Hi Max and Gpro's Please talk about the grip on the flat box and when to grip the handle. R u using a 8 inch box and then a 10 inch box for last 2 coats. What is the product u use for the 2- 3rd coats called generally and why. If i were to buy a box set would I buy a 8 and 10 ( inch)set or......... Ross Northern Cali. Cheers mates
Do the boys tape with hot mud? Then run regular mud in the box to give tape coat?
That first entire taping and filling recess joint is all hot mud
Do you legends use a 10 inch box on your second coat and a 12 to finish
Not quite full enough. We go for dead flat after drying. I personally wouldn't allow that (un) fill coat. WAIT A SECOND! They are fill boxing over wet tape. What is up with that?
they're just filling the bevel after tape. its pretty common practice. yet they still do two coats afterwards...kinda insane IMO especially showing how close to flat the first fill gives.
i'll never understand why box boys think they need 3 coats.
Can you add more plaster after the ceiling been painted as mine are very bad
Yeah sometimes paint shows up issues with plaster. you can skim again and then repaint.

What kind of mud do you prefer to use? A lot of times it shrinks when it drys so I make it a bit thicker on my flats
We use setting compound for our first coast. Sheetrock easy sand 45 for beads and gib 60/90 lightweight for taping. Those don’t shrink much. We use Sheetrock total lite for the rest of the coats
What brand is that blue box he uses? Like how it opens up so you can fill with mud by hand.

I recently bought the tapepro mudbox pro. Have you guys any experience with it ? I used it the other day and had some trouble with it. I feel like now I should have got the tapepro that the gangsters use not the tapepro pro .
We haven’t used that one sorry

@@brandondoherty7457 it’s all about pinning the tape with the big wheel against the drywall and your mud consistency. You should be able to pour your compound from the bucket into the mud box it shouldn’t be thick where you need to use a knife to fill the box up or too runny where it’ll start leaking out off all the small gaps in the mud box either. Max has some videos of a green Northstar version on his page where we showed him how to use it. Go check those videos out they’ll be much easier to see the technique
