i live in the seattle area also, and i just keep getting mezmorized everytime i look at the space needle. Seriously, the feeling of looking at that tall of a building just makes me happy.
In 1996 I got to go with my friend to celebrate her 16th birthday. We got dinner and desert atop the Needle. I was in on her birthday present of a personal cell phone. She freaked when her gift began making noise. Back then we didn't ask have cellphones. So it was really exciting for her to get one for her 16th bday and be part of that dream come true. Sadly in 2001 she was killed by a drunk driver going the wrong way on a road in Oregon. She was driving to California to move in with her older sister. It was absolutely devestating and tragic. I'm glad I at least got to participate in a magical and positive moment while she was still with us in her life. I just wish her family didn't have to endure any of that and that she was still alive and with us. ❤
I’m from Oregon and recently watched a Seahawks game and while I was there I got to go in the space needle. On the line to get into the elevator up there was cool posters and some other really neat facts about the original plans and construction.
The weirdest thing we saw in Seattle was the crazy amount of public drug use. Not some potheads sneaking a joint but in your face heroin injecting, fentanyl smoking, pure insanity! I wish the space needle was the only needle we saw but sadly it wasn't.
A much weirder fun fact about this topic… all those motels with prostitution and drugs on Aurora Ave were mostly built and started as little private hotels to make money off of that worlds fair… and what a great idea, then not now lol
All right so I have someone who lives across the water from Seattle I can clarify it’s absolutely beautiful over there then to a couple of Mariners games I haven’t been to football game sadly but yeah I’d recommend you should go there a ton of fun things you can do over there like you can do if you have tickets you can go to the aquarium it’s always beautiful over here I live in Washington Kingston but it’s all the way in Bremerton so yeah

We have one pretty similar in my home city. They build it with the intentions of being a view point but they stated charging absurds amout of money for people to go up. Then they decided to add a bungee jump spot but someone gor hurt ahd I was closed. Then they add a bunch of restaurantes but the food wasn't good and they soon closed. It was once a Hard Rock Cafe but it didn't really work either. I don't even know what's up with the tower now. the city is Belo Horizonte and the place is called Alta Vila Tower
Much of the 1962 World's Fair was supposed to be temporary. The monorail for example. The company that built it, Alweg, is no longer in business. Parts have to be custom made anytime that it needs to be repaired.
Only looks weird to a person who has been use to seeing even more weirder looking buildings and taller buildings. Flashback to 1960’s. Space was a huge thing. That was the people’s view of the future and space travel. I bet your grandparents look at you and what you wear and say ‘you look weird’. lol.
