  • Happy July and Disability Pride Month!! I can't believe that we're already in the month of July, this year has truly flown by!
Disability Pride Month is a month that I hold very close to my heart and since openly joining the disabled community, it has been my goal to find books that properly and accurately contain disabled characters. Growing up, it was very easy to find disabled characters portrayed as the villains of the story, but it was very rare to see them as a main character, let alone having a happy ending.
So I have accumulated a list of around 33 books, some that I have read, some that I have on my bookshelf, and a bunch that I have on my wishlist while I'm on a book buying ban. I tried my best to put the books into groups such as limb loss & limb difference, autism, wheelchair users, hard of hearing individuals, ASL, cerebral palsy, OCD, ADHD, etc.
Books mentioned in the order brought up:
    - Girl of Flesh and Metal by Alicia Ellis
    - War of Flesh and Metal by Alicia Ellis
    - Clash of Flesh and Metal by Alicia Ellis
    - Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young
    - A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
    - Godkiller by Hannah Kaner
    - The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland
    - Unseelie by Ivelisse Housman

    - Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Yeaaah 🥳 Happy disability pride month! I was soooo looking forward to this video ^^ I want to read some books with good disability representation this month, so excited to hear about all your recs.
Out on a Limb is definitely a contender for me this month😇 I saw A Time To Dance when researching yesterday and it really caught my eye. It sounds sooo right up my alley! I used to practice Indian Classical Dance in another life, so I'm very intrigued by this one :) Maybe we could do a buddy read of it together if you're up for it?
I had no particular interest in reading Godkiller, but now, I'm definitely adding it to my list!
"Am I enough to be part of this community"... Ouch, this one goes deep, and it hurts a bit. I definitely relate to the questioning - for me, it's with neurodivergence. But also with some health stuff... The "am I enough?" voice is loud, and paralyzing (for lack of a better word) sometimes... Still grappling with it often.
Do you know Jen Campbell's channel? She's also a disability advocate. I've seen her recommend Disfigured in the past.

Happy Disability Pride month to you too ❤ I got a bit emotional reading this and it just makes me even happier that I was able to make this video to provide recommendations for everyone 😭
I'd love to do a buddy read together for A Time To Dance! I have a trip coming up next week, but after that, I should be free to start reading whenever you are 🥰
I'm so glad to hear that! This is one of my favorite things about booktube and talking about books. It always adds new books to my radar that I never considered reading before.
❤❤❤ Sending you so much love Cat. This still is a constant thought that I struggle with too. But just know that you are enough and just because your experiences are different from someone else's, it doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to be apart of that community.
Thank you for the suggestion! I haven't heard of her channel, but will check her out ASAP!

Yeah! Buddy read it is! I just ordered it, but it should be delivered between 23 and 29 July, so either I give you a shout when it arrives or we plan it directly for August?

@@Curious-Cat oo would it be okay to maybe plan for August? I feel like this month has been so busy that August might work best.

@@goodmornindreamer Of course! I already have a fairly ambitious TBR this month, so that works well for me too ^^
