i know it sounds cliche but its the truth he’s insecure about his masculinity
The song has many layers. Rain represents suffering and pain. The "Id rather be dry but at least I'm alive" it's like no one likes to go through shit, it's hard. But at least we still alive so let's thanks for it. It's also about Gagas addiction to alcohol. The whole song is about dancing through our problems and pain like "yeah it's gonna be hard but bring it". It's a fun song with sort of a deep meaning

Lady Gaga and Ariana connected through the hardships they've been through so the bombing at Ariana's concert in 2018 and the loss of Mac miller shortly after that, and then lady gaga's broken engagement and she's been through some substance issues I think and sexual assault. Lady gaga spoke about how the song came together in an interview but they basically connected through the pain they've both experienced. So like the lyrics 'I'd rather be dry but at least I'm alive' they would rather not be going though what they're going through but they're grateful that they're alive and it's just meant to be a happy and uplifting song about enjoying life despite it's hardships. They're really close friends now :)
