that NAM dirty shirley capture is one of my favourites. and one i found quite early on. a lot of the captures that came out first for nam were already really good so maybe they peaked too early but at least no need to wade through the flood of captures now.
Really enjoyable playing at the beginning! Loved just listening. It's a privilege that NAM lets people like you make nice music for everyone. Cheers, John! -Steve
Jack Pearson doesn’t care about the name on the headstock. Give a great player decent gear and they can make it work. Decent now is Squier, Epiphone etc. Also, NAM is as great as people say. Love it.
You can also use NAM captures inside Tonocracy , not used it much but saves you loading NAM and effect plugins into a DAW or Mainstage etc to build complete rigs.
GarageBand seems free but we are actually paying for it's development when buying a Mac. That's why it's gotten better over the years. P.d. 😂 love the puppy jumping while you solo.
Love your playing, John. Your intros are always so tasteful. I don't believe you've ever mentioned Scuffham S-gear software in your reviews. It's a wonderful amp program with great tones and effects. And at around $120 it's a great value. Sounds fantastic!
Glad to see YT guys finally demoing GB amp sims. I've used better TBH, but they're not bad for free. Half the people out there have them in their pocket already and don't even really think about it (iPhone) so it's worth checking out if only as a backup or travel rig option
Dude. I started playing in 1985 at the age of 14. Back then a $200 used guitar was generally not as good as a new $200 guitar today. And the budget amps were absolutely terrible. A used Crate or Peavey was what was available at your local store/s. Throw on a reverb, delay, tuner and an over and you are well over $600 for an all used first jamable rig that sounds terrible.
Some of the sounds in Genome are pretty nuts. The fact it was free if you owned a two notes device is sweeeeettttt. And it's not badly priced for a massive all in one guitar plugin. As expensive as one neural archetype, but way more amps, pedals, graphic eq etc.
I had this same thought when I saw Rhett Shull's video -- those NAM tones are a perfect example of "kind of uninspiring on their own but WOW they sound fantastic in a mix." Even compared to 10 years ago it's insane how good digital amps are now.
You can make them sound how you want : satisfying on their own or mix-ready. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that they're Nam profiles or whatever. Same thing applies to real amps.
So cheaper than free, you ask? :) Well I guess that would mean less CPU-intensive. If so, do try Boogex by Voxengo. Vst amp simulator with EQ and reverb included. Super easy to use, very processor-effective. Not as good as NAM, but could come in handy on older PCs and/or as an effect in front of the amp.
I downloaded and used the 'JC dumble drive´ you created in this video but it doesn't sound half as overdriven/saturated as yours. I play a (great) Godin Strat-type but I don't get that warm dumblish tone that I love.. Is maybe your input much higher?
...always loved the 'rockman' sound ...yeah, the portable battery-powered version ...JHS did a great one too called the 'rockbox' (have that somewhere)
You can hear the sound of the small desktop monitors. I really love this tech but the problem with running a modeller or plugins through monitors is that it always sounds boxy and small. We go on about the sound of an amp in the room and this is definitely not it. IMO you are far better off with a modeller into most 12 inch amp cabs, even at low volume.
ok you have a point, you can get great computer tone for free and not pay like a sardine for kemper and quad. you could also play 250$ guitars and get away with it so what? my problem with youtubers like you is that you never walk the extra mile with real amps, don't get me wrong you have/had really good amps ,but you never optimized them for your taste and needs, by swapping the stock speaker and tubes .it's not rocket science and you could pay a tech to do everything for you or do it yourself and learn something valuable ,something that only the best guitar players knew-how to fix their tone themselves .people like eric johnson steve morse carlos santana and joe walsh know all about pickups tubes speakers transformers their tone is not some random choice made by someone else on a digital simulator .
Awesome to see you doing a video for those of us who really can’t afford most of the gear you demonstrate.
Killer playing as always man!

Stunningly beautiful playing.

The GB app is just a few bucks to load on your iPad.
Your dog jumping made my night! 😂

Finally doggo in the video 😍
Been awhile since we've seen the doggies. I saw Rhett's video. Excellent BTW. Really shows what's available on a budget.

That's a great bark tone! :)
Both sound pretty flippin good trough my IK monitors.👍
I just got one of the Vertex Steel String pedal. $80 on EBay, best tone I’ve ever had

And $200 then was = $600 now. Guitars are better and cheaper to get now.
enjoyed that john cheers, very relevant to me rather than seeing kit thats unaffordable to me, with my 75 quid squier and a free copy of cakewalk.
3:24, one of ELODIE's Playmates shows up. Been a while for the Dog's.
Tried that McRocklin suite yet for ambient stuff?
If I were to start all over (moneywise) I'd get a JC-40 and a few pedals.

Tack!
Thanks for this video, i need an ampero II patch a new one,😉

tone + ears / fingers + hearing ...discernment ...lovely playing btw ...preferred the sound of this to the 'dumble via fuzz pedal' approach
...always loved the 'rockman' sound ...yeah, the portable battery-powered version ...JHS did a great one too called the 'rockbox' (have that somewhere)

Breaking news : all your favourite guitar tones from your favourite albums are not "amp in the room" tones.
Do the NAM captures have the speaker modeled with them? Some do some don’t.
Is that your cab IR John?
Can you use the Valhalla Supermassive Delay in the Tonocracy ?
can´t get enough volume, even with the speakers on my ears I can hear more strings than distortion. Everything set up correctly...
Not feeling the Tonocracy. Not really working.
Good tone yeah, great tone I think still costs you a good guitar and a good tube amp

Not everyone wants to spend their life changing tubes and speakers instead of making music
Changing tubes seeking a tonal change is the easiest way to throw away money in the guitar industry.
Swapping tubes is overrated.
Instead of swapping speakers, you can swap cabs entirely.
No thank you, I dont think I will watch this.
