Good question I brushed over those details. From my understanding your electricity can come from a variety of power plants and power companies often have to use less clean energy sources like coal during peak demand. Is that feature locked for only US residents?

This is the kind of thing I would love apple to fire head of homekit! Ios 17.0.2 broke remote video streaming. How about fix Apple watch homekit stability first before shoving useless into no one asked for?
@@EricWelander I wish I could adjust this since my house runs on solar. So, for about 10-11 hours a day my house is already using green energy and Grid Forecast doesn't do me much good
Loved the very clear explanation and the side by sides of the previous OS. Have been thinking of transitioning to a complete Apple environment at home and this channel has inspired me to move forward!
Thanks for the summary. I agree it would be great to have grid forecast tied into automation but this is a good first step. I will be checking it out to see how it syncs up with our current usage and Time-of-Use plan.
I like the new lighting color pallets in Home app and be able to save new colors. However, I have also found a major bug with the new color pallets. For Philips Hue and Aqara T1 (since those are all I have in my Home setup), I was able to change the color of the lights using the new pallets, however, the light status will revert to adaptive color, meaning the actual light color will be mismatched with light status in Home App, as well as in Aqara App. However, if you switch to a color that was saved from iOS 16, all are just fine as expected. Seems the new Home light color pallets has communication issues. I have reported this to Apple and aqara with a shot video clip. Not sure if you have noticed that. Thanks for your video again, always enjoyed.
I hope Apple adds a digital clock widget so I can run some home controls beside it.
Definitely interested in ways to move to clean energy!

I like Grid Forecast. I just wish it tied into automations and was more specific to utility providers who charge different rates based on time of day.
In standby mode I’d be interested to know what effect it will have on battery life. Having it charging all the time surely won’t do the battery any good?

The only Home feature I got with iOS17 was a home that goes offline for hours and online for about 1-2.

And I don’t understand why standby mode couldn’t work on older iPhones if it’s plugged in. It’s useless on the 13 and lower.
I’d love a video about saving energy. I know many places have peak energy rates, and off-peak rates. Where I live for example I pay more for energy between 3pm and 8pm on weekdays, and not on the weekends. So having automations/scenes which change thermostats, alert if windows are open, turn off lights that may have been mistakenly left on (thanks kids, lol), turn off appliances such as air filters during those hours and have them back on once energy rates are lower again, I’d like to see a homekit pro show how you’d set that kind of thing up.
I thought the reason that the non pro iPhones didn't have always on is because it would consume more power since they don’t have the LTPO screen technology but if it’s plugged in why does that matter? So it can charge more quickly? In that case it should be an option in settings
6.40. Absolutely agree... frustrating that iPhone needed to facially recognise me before it would close the garage door after I went to bed with lights off... It should have known that was very unlikely to have been stolen between me setting the alarm (while geolocated at home!!) and going to bed!
I have a widget to open my garage door on the lockscreen, so I’m happy that I need to FaceID first!
Damn to think we used to dream about these days!!! I really don’t mind the Face ID to control my home but if I choose to make it more accessible that should be my choice but I’ll digress.

Home controls don’t show up on my Apple TV, even though I updated it. It’s a fairly recent Apple TV too. Do I need to activate it somehow?
Grid Forecast seems to be a bit lame: in Germany you can get electric power based on auctioned prices and the cheaper, the more renewable energy is in the grid. The price is adjusted hourly. I was hoping for a home feature to have the price as a trigger for automations.
Have had TV OS 17 thru beta and have yet to have the Home Kit icon show up in control center ?????
No if you can use home controls in the control center without authentication then you should be able to do the same with stand by or at least have the option to toggle it
The home widget doesn’t work. I was able to try it on the beta 1. After that it just works if you have a HomePod or Apple TV.

How do you use find my to find your remote?
Grid forecast would be awesome with EV charging or home battery backup systems.
Use home battery when grid is dirty power, and charge battery or EV when clean.
Those bracketed temperature controls drive me nuts. I’m very sensitive to temp, and want one specific temp. Can’t do it with a range which is +/- too many degrees.
The night stand mode is amazing, I really like it, but after you hit snooze the white light stays on and does not got to red, you have to take it off the stand and put it back on. I think I should have just used alarm apps all these years...
I wouldn't be surprised if a third party app doesn't come along with widgets to meet your snoozing demands

Can someone explain to me how to set the individual standby screens depending on the MagSafe charger I am using? Unfortunately, I cannot find this option
Most of these are great and useful added features, but it’s still impossible to make a scene or automation to power-off an Apple TV and monitor (via CEC) in the Home App.
Not getting the “auto show audio” experience on my AW7….
They fixed the invitation bug from when they changed the architecture last year
Need voice authentication, even if it’s just for lower risk things.
For me the standy screen does not stay on. On the iPhone 15. i have always on enabled..

Hey I use apple HomeKit on my iPad m1 12.9 as main device. Only thing I’m using are lightbulbs Philips hue and Philips bridge just got updated to support matter. Can you make video explaining what does it change in that case? Do I need dedicated device like HomePod or Apple TV now instead of iPad? Can I now connect different companies lightbulbs that support matter to my hue bridge? Or with different brand I need different bridge? I don’t understand this matter thing
Good questions Rob. Yes you shouldn't need to do anything with the Matter update to Hue. It just unlocks the option to add your lights in more places over Matter, which sounds like it isn't that important for you right now
The update fixed a bug with the level lock plus that didn’t allow home key to work for other members of the household.

I have iOS 17.2 and this option "Activity History" is not showing. Neither on my iPhone, or my iPad, or my Macbook Pro with Sonoma 14.1.2

iOS17 & TVOS17 has stopped cameras working once again. Burnt twice now with major updates. I’ll be waiting next time when they release 18 until they iron out the bugs and sort themselves out.
One thing that I feel is a major issue is that HomePods will not do concurrent Siri request as in asking Siri to do tasks, its still hey Siri for every single request unlike iPhone, iPad etc.
Yes you have to say something like "Hey Siri, turn on the kitchen lights and turn on the living room lights". Two actions but still one request.
@@EricWelander have you tried that just with the HomePod not with phone or iPad my HomePod replies I do not do concurrent requests, she switches off immediately rather than hanging around like the phone does, let me know if it’s just me and appreciate reply.
@@homepc-carlislehomepod does the concurrent requests, are you sure yours are all on homepod os 17? I had to seperate my pair before i could get both updated, then repair them

Can someone tell me why my tiles are all just long rectangles? I keep seeing other people’s are either small squares or rectangles that don’t go across the whole screen. I can’t for the life of me figure it out.
Can anyone recommend a brand of smart socket plug/adaptors that work with apple, I have about 8 of these which work with Alexa but they don’t always work, wondering if an apple HomeKit ones work better more reliable.

I only have one Magsafe charger.. how does the phone keep track of which charger is which?
I think it’s some unique ID sent to the phone from the charger as part of the MagSafe standard. It’s related to how you see a color-matched screen on your phone when putting on MagSafe cases.

How do you setup the different stand by mode when you have an official MagSafe?
Just set your display to something different when it’s on that MagSafe charger and your iPhone should remember it for next time on that charger.
Apple needs to chill with the "clean energy" mother earth stuff. It can really backfire on them.

if you want an iPad as a home hub just buy another one and set it up without a password that way guests can access it
They still didn't add a feature to switch off a light if there is no motion in the room after XXX minutes, lame...
This isn't really about new Apple Home features, it's mainly (or is it all?) about features of newer Apple Watches and iPhones.

Don’t ask for options to limit the security of iPhone just for convenience. IPhone is too valuable to be compromised.

Wow. Is that another intentional slap in the face by Apple, or just incompetence? It sure is getting tough to stay loyal. And I’m starting to feel foolish for doing so.
Love the vid on the new stuff on ios 17 but your take on security or off. If you want your phone or ipad to be used without face id or a code remove it. This way everyone can use your phone or ipad. Even your neighbors 😉. You ask apple to remove security on a few apps. Your 1 person. Imagine 300 billion people asking this for a app they use. So we back to the old times : no security. I have iPhones and ipads without a code or face id so everyone can use it. Yes also my mother in law 😂. Just my 2 cents
apple home is a bloatware, i installed google home
Avoid all home kit , it’s crap nothing works reliably 12 months of pain , my iPhone and iPad , and Mac work well I’m smart now with rival products , please don’t buy any home kit products they won’t work in the uk , , you are gonna get a bunch of stress with home kit , I have had it cost me BUNCH OF CASH , avoid home guys , Apple will need a redesign of home software they are aware but continue to push it.
