ASMR Whisper: Preparing Scientific Samples

  • Hi guys! In this video I share with you some of the work I'm doing for my research. Specifically, I'm preparing soil samples for a kind of analysis called isotope-ratio mass spectrometry, which provides information about the elements found in the soil. The sample preparation requires fairly careful, precise measurements, and I thought it might be tingly/relaxing to watch. I hope you enjoy it!
I strongly recommend listening to this video with headphones for the best experience :)
    ---- What's ASMR, and why am I whispering? ----
I whisper in my videos because they're designed to trigger a sensation called ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). ASMR is a very specific feeling that some people experience when they hear certain soft sounds, like whispering and tapping, or see certain visuals, like deliberate hand motions. It's often described as a pleasant tingling in the head and neck, accompanied by a sense of calmness and mild euphoria. Many people watch ASMR videos to help them relax or fall asleep. To learn more about ASMR, I recommend checking out asmruniversity.com/about-asmr/.... Happy tingles!

finally, a REAL scientist making asmr videos. being a science enthusiast, people really bug me when they make fake science asmr videos. I'd love to see your results as well as an explanation of how you correlate different concentrations of matter to different kinds of forest fire and then how yiu are able to use that data to be able to determine the impact of said forest fire on the local ecosystem.

Thanks, glad you liked it and that you're interested in the topic! The study is still ongoing and I'm compiling results from other indicators right now. Eventually I'll publish the results, at which point perhaps I'll do a video talking about my findings :)

Listening to people talk about very specific fields of expertise that I have zero knowledge of is my number one ASMR trigger (being educated on complicated/new subjects in detail) and there aren't really any ASMR vids of that theme. When growing up my dad had endless piles of scientific data all over his study for work that I'd creep in and peek at, and that is where it all comes from I guess. So this is a first for me on YT and it is amazing, Nick. Thank you for sharing part of your work with us and the healing tingles! Good luck on the rest of the research too. :D
    Edit - P.S. Please do more! :D

Honestly this is such a great way to learn, in a quiet relaxed environment where you’re completely focused in on what’s being said. I am studying to be a molecular biologist and am trying to get more used to working in lab without bei
ng overwhelmed by all the details of mixing reactions and being efficient at pipetting dozens of samples into tiny little wells in one sitting. This video was a great way to get into the right mindset.

12:33 made me laugh out loud. that was about as funny as the "shit...*large sigh*" in the Never Dig Straight Up Minecraft video. good stuff. lol.

This helped me so much last night to get to sleep. Even though I only got four hours in the end, without this vid it would have been a complete sleepless night. Thanks a bunch. :D

I really enjoyed this video. it was very interesting and relaxing. I really enjoy the science and math that goes behind this type of work. I find math very relaxing. If it is possible to do more videos like this, I would love to see more about your work and how you do it.

Excellent video, I think a head-mounted camera for POV would have been a cool style to film this in as well for perspective.

I would love to see/hear a video of you explaining more about chemistry(although I already learned it i love listening to your voice which is probably why I'm here :)) also I would love to learn more about your research on forest fires. is there maybe an article or website explaining a bit more about it. thanks you and keep making awesome relaxing videos
