- In this rare and exclusive video, we take you up close to Union Pacific's rotary snow plow - one of the most powerful snow removal equipment in the world. Watch as it works its magic high in the Sierra during the snowiest of winters, while we take you through the history of the railroads' fight against snow since the 1800s. And as an alternative, we show you the chaotic scenes that take place on the interstate during big snow events. Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the ultimate snow fighting machine in action!

Gotta love the logic in using that ratchet strap that's rated to hold maybe 3K lbs tops to try and tow a 35K lbs or more semi and then trying to use it another couple times after it broke and was compromised.
Definition of INSANITY!!!!!
Loved the history lesson by a very knowledgeable man, bless his heart.
Awesome, thanks for taking one for the viewers !!
That was an epic shot. 💯
You are very brave.
Thanks for all of your vids
Thank you! One of my all time favorites! What a machine!
I'm glad you enjoyed being dumped on with snow. It was almost child-like joy! I find snow to be a nightmare.
Haha, I was pretty stoked. I was super intimidated as it was barreling towards me. I find joy in chaos.
I loved your reaction when the train pounded you with snow. lol Great job getting the shot.
Haha, pure joy
Looks beautiful out there, thanks for your efforts!🇺🇸🇺🇸🧂
It was! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
5:37 that is a water flume
🇺🇲🙏🤗
Thank you for sharing
You bet, hope you enjoyed it!
Love this! BTW rail fans are nicknamed "Foamers" because whenever they see trains they foam at the mouth 😆
Haha, I had no idea! Thanks for sharing!
Great VIDEO!!
Thank you! Glad you watched and enjoyed!
Where were you when talking to the guy about the history of railway snow removal?
At the Donner Museum in Soda Springs
@@JonathanPetramala Thanks!
@@WmAnnis Ya! Would be incredible to "hang-out"/spend some hours just listening to him......AWESOME!
Thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
These trains were used every winter in the 1800s and early 1900s
Alot of this footage is not of railroad snow sheds but water transfer flumes along I-80
The 'flumes' all up in that area are real amazing; tell they're own story...[MY cousin drowned in one up west of Auburn]
Lol…..”I’m officially a train chaser now….” You and Sheldon Cooper…..😊😆😊
What an adrenaline rush
The overflights and interior shots of the wooden structures are not of the 'snow sheds' for the railroad main line. They are for a water flume system that is part of the Truckee area irrigation and water complex. Some have been abandoned due to the expense of repair. Some are awaiting rebuilding. Still the system is active and conveying water. There are some snow sheds still in use on the main line around Norden.
A half mile, up hill, in waist deep snow? Sounds like me going to elementary school, except it was 2 miles, up hill, both ways! Tough times.
Amazing location! Perhaps that location won’t see that much snow in a while.
Last year there were just inches on the ground so who knows?
Long live the SP.
The minivan was going to pull the semi? Really?
Bet folks in Ohio don't share the same fondness for trains anymore. 😢😮
Olá sou brasileira ok
Hi
John, While the topic of discussion was on the railroad snowsheds you were constantly showing drone footage of the irrigation canals along the Truckee River. Why not just show the tunnels and existing tack bed? They are very easy to get to and a drone shot would easily put it in perspective. The "Snow fighters" do not work on the railroad. That is a unit of Caltrans that is based in Kingvale, just down the hill from Soda Springs. Placing your drone shots in just anywhere willy nily that doesn't pertain to that particular verbiage is very confusing for those of us living up there.
Sorry we were given confusing info on the locations…and not being from there we didn’t have an idea. Hope the rest of the video was interesting
Here's a tour of a 1966 Rotary Snow Plow. ua-cam.com/video/L06Q_Cw6aNg/v-deo.html

Had to walk a half mile uphill in the snow. Both ways.
Lol, felt like it
Excellent content
Much appreciated!
You should have gone over to the track to see the work it did.
👍👍👍

Wow, thank you! I am out shooting more video around Gulfport and St Pete beach now
Love the 'snow shower'! LOL....Great video, Mister; Thank U!!!!🙂
Glad you enjoyed it
😂😂😂..You got baptized there...
CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the water flume by the truckee river is not a snow shed, lots of mis information here, and its snowing here today
Bro…we were told it was a shed, we shoot it. But to say there is a lot of misinformation is itself a lie. We just got bad info and so we shot something that looks VERY similar. So back off the Trump fake news line and come back to reality.
@@JonathanPetramala Not to harp on a 10mo old comment, but followed your link from your current 2024-03-24 video on Donner pass; just FYI misinformation doesn't really imply that something is intentionally false, just inaccurate, incorrect, incomplete, etc., or as you put it 'bad info'. The word that has the implication of being malicious or intentional would be disinformation. Point being it seemed you were inferring bad intent by the OP when I don't know that that was warranted. Cheers, thanks for the vids, very interesting and well shot.
Hàhahàha!!!
