In the final of the Hungarian Cup 2023/24 competition, we played against our domestic rival, OTP Bank - Pick Szeged, in the Tatabánya Multifunktősial Sports Hall. Szeged started the game, we started the first 30 minutes with Descat, ElDeraa, Remili, Fabregas, Ligetvári, Yahia. Rodrigo Corrales entered the goal, and Nedim Remili scored the first goal from the first counterattack. After 5 minutes of playing time, the score was 2-3, there was a fight on the field befitting a cup final, the teams went head to head. Nedim Remili started the meeting in explosive form, 4/4 in the first 10 minutes. The scoreboard showed a score of 4-7. Casado arrived on the pitch, and Szeged sneaked closer to 6-7 thanks to his quick ball delivery. Then 2 possessions and already 6-9. Pechmalbec came to the field and scored a nice goal. Later, the three-goal Veszprém advantage was stabilized, in the 20th minute Krisztián Kárpáti scored his first goal. Ligetvári did a great job in the wall, showing his numerous blocks and possessions. For the first time we led with four, 9-13. Nilson took the field instead of Pechmalbec, and Mahé took over for us and Martins for Szeged. We were a bit stuck in attack, and on the other side, Szeged fought out the sevens in a row, so our advantage was reduced to one goal. With the score at 14-15, not quite three minutes before the end, Momir Ilic called for a time-out. We ended the half with a one-goal lead, 15-16 .
We started the second half, Vailupau, Remili, Pechmalbec, Yahia, Kosorotov, Elísson took the field. Mike Jensen in goal. The first goal of the second 30 minutes was scored by Yahia from seven meters. Scorching moments followed, video recording, two minutes, as we have become accustomed to in Veszprém-Szeged in recent years. After 35 minutes of play, the score was 18-20. Rodrigo Corrales returned to the goal, unfortunately Jensen could not save. Bombac was very active in the wall, Nedim Remili received a red card for a headbutt during a break-in. Dragan Pechmalbec scored important balls, 24-27 in the 48th minute. A big game, fit for a cup final. Kosorotov's goal meant the extra four, Krisztián Kárpáti asked for time. In the end, with Agustín Casado's skillful play and Yahia's sure sevens, we kept the 3-goal advantage until the end. Telekom Veszprém has won the Hungarian Cup 31 times!
