To be fair that's probably an outdated mindset : in the past, 'people in need' were basically starving. Carbs are a cheap and plentiful source of calories, and oats are not the worst as they also have minerals and vitamins in them (assuming not overly processed) . And if a bowl of oats is your sole meal for the day, it's not going to make you fat.
But today 'people in need' aren't actually starving, they can get plenty of calories, but it's all processed junk because that's the cheapest.

I remember going around the corner at the bus stop in the mornings so that I could 'fart my brains out', get it all out of me before starting school. It was not a pleasant experience. In recent years I've tried organic cereals, a wheat free diet, rinsing my rice before cooking like the Japanese and none of it helped reduce flattulence.
Now I'm 41, been on mostly carnivore for over a year and I rarely fart. Except for the times when I've indulged in pizza and oreos or a couple of binges last year at the Golden Corral, none of which produced the anticipated pleasure.

I said roundup toxins and he said I have eaten them for breakfast most of my life and I really enjoy them. He put them back with a sad look on his face like I had destroyed his dreams.
