Ken, If you are planning to ride this bike 2up PLEASE replace the rear subframe bolts!! You can get up graded bolt kit from, Eagle Mikes, not expensive. Its on the list of upgrades I gave you. Bike came out stunning, Joe&Tammy
Hilarious because I have the same variant in a 2004, originally red. Previous owner did a crummy paint job so I repainted it in black as well. Mine currently has 60000 miles so you have plenty of life left in Big Black! Just now planning a mini road trip to really leg it out. I'm considering redoing the shocks as well, but I'm opting for 80/20 tires since I don't off-road. Also planning a carb refresh. I actually don't mind the stock pipe. I'm sure the neighbors already don't like me, but they would just LOVE and aftermarket high-flow muffler ;)
I love it. He’s old thumpers or just so easy to own, change your oil clean your air filter adjust the valves every few years and they run forever. I’d take this over a lot of newer bikes. My biggest problem with these was the suspension but you’ve got that taken care of.
Probably the best commuter bike of all time, I picked up an Xr650l used and these older dual sports are timeless .not the best at any one thing but they can do just about anything, I also agree the older model looks better I should have bought a dual sport years ago.
I've got one too ,I went to a 14 tooth front sprocket .would really like to hear you talk bv a little more about the jet kit and the difference it made . RIDE 365 ! GOD BLESS YOU GUYS !!
Great job. But the stock seat will punish you. And get a better skid plate. I agree with the gen 1 being better looking. I’ve been on one of these for Many years. Still love it.
I picked up a one owner, mint low mile 30 year old Suzuki dr650 r Dakar for some off road mostly, fun, but I can not believe how much fun on road it is! Have done a stage 2 on it and it just rips! Had no idea how much fun a big bore duel sport bike could be 😀
Almost forgot...get that swingarm and suspension linkage lubed up.....always popcorn fart DRY from the factory...Pulled my 18 KLR down and greased it with 139 miles on the odo...........Get the WIZARD on it before DAYTONA! I may see you up there!
Happy to hear it is a keeper! I have owned 13 KLR 650's I like the GEN 1 bikes better. Kawasaki is going to build us another.............

Day and night better than stock
Great job. Would look even better with black rims 🤙
I have a 2004 gen 1 and a 2011 gen 2. The 1 is MO fun.

klr is a big heavy bush pig compared to the dr 650 or xr 650 which are roughly 80 to 90 pounds lighter then the klr
It seems like a bike that stays long enough at NEMM will never be done. I’ve ridden and wrenched the same bike last two days. So that 23 for me.
On a roll brother , stay with us on the journey 365 2020
What - No valve adjustment?
AWESOME bike 😎
👍 look’n good, I have a “07” that I’m working on.
you got to lose that Tupperware skid plate though. total garbage . get a nice alloy skid plate for it
Is there any footage of the low self esteem bike? I just bought a 06 650r and would love to see the progress for inspiration.
Ken possibly selling it, who will be the lucky person? He added a new video today of it.
Love it. 😍
You better look at the doohicky. My 2023 ate itself at only 1884 miles.
Curious question as I too hate ‘23 and it’s at 1600: did you adjust the external bolt when you did the break-in service?
When you get tired of that Progressive rear shock look into the handbuilt Congent Dynamics shock
Wouldn’t you need high self-esteem to ride something ugly. Unless he meant it gives you a low self-esteem.
What’s it make for power now after the stage two kit ?
One more detail a little mud on the tag 👍🏻wasn’t me🤷♂️
built to be rebuilt
Looks like my 2003....What year is this, didn't hear the year in vid ?

How about doohickey? 😎
