I still don't get..irl was Robert Dudley still love elizabeth after he married lettice? Or he loved first lettice then second elizabeth? for poor amy R maybe he didn't love her much because she didn't give him a child.. I mean we know elizabeth 1 of course loved him so much
I think he loved her, he waited so long. He asked to her to marry but well, She had other plans.
I think Robert initially had a simple respect for Elizabeth and was her close friend. Probably the common imprisonment in the Tower brought them closer together, thanks to which their feelings for each other reached more and grew to strong affection and love. He married Amy Robsart before Elizabeth became Queen, and I think for several reasons: 1. Amy was really sweet to him. 2. She was different from other women because she was not a noblewoman. 3. And he liked her, though not as much as Elizabeth, but still. Realizing that Elizabeth was not going to marry him, Robert secretly married Lettice, and I think because she was beautiful, smart and similar to Elizabeth.

@@savelin6563Their imprisonment in the Tower definitely increased their affection to deep love but still I'm sure he already had feelings for her when they were teenagers and she maybe also🥰 There is one story that when they were children, she confided into him she never would marry and that might be another reason why he married Amy
I firmly believe he was already in love with Elizabeth before he married Amy but probably he didn't allow himself these feelings as he knew they couldn't marry. He loved Amy but not so much as Elizabeth who was the love of his life. Robert married Lettice many years after Amy's death because Elizabeth couldn't bring herself to marry him because he wanted a family. But he never stopped loving Elizabeth
