Wheeler Peak is the highest point in New Mexico at 13,167 feet. Located in the Sangre de Christo range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico you’ll find this peak in the Carson National Forest. The region around the mountain is rich in history and culture. The Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continually inhabited communities in North America. Over the centuries this area has seen more than its fair share of conflict and upheaval but it has continued to endure and remains a beautiful and culturally vibrant place to enjoy. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

We just climbed Wheeler peak, it's a great climb. Thanks for the history we never anything about the history. We are more "must climb to top!" No details needed.
Congratulations on a successful summit! I love sharing the stories of these places along with getting to the top. Best of luck out there!
Amazing Video! Videos like this truly makes me proud of being born in such a beautiful state!
I appreciate it! New Mexico is a wonderful place.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Fantastic documentary!
Thank you! We were finally hitting our stride with New Mexico.
Another great video.
Thank you!
Exceptional content.
Thank you! I really appreciate that.
i summitted Wheeler Peak on 20230617. it was still pretty snowy, but the hike was easier than i expected. spikes came in handy. finished in about 5 hours.
Is it doable without spikes right now?
@@dwall787 yes. most did not use spikes.
Great job Eric!
I love watching these! I learn so much about these peaks that I never knew.
Thank you! It's been pretty cool to explore these areas and uncover interesting stories.
Thanks again, Skye! Scenery, history, geology... Can't get much better than this
Thanks Steve!
Really appreciate these videos! Finally got a chance to sit down and get caught up on them
Thanks! Glad they can be of service!
Kudos doing that hike! Impressive!
It was a good day. We filmed it around the first day of summer but it felt like walking back into winter.
This episode was very nostalgic for me- 45 high points ago in 2012, Wheeler was our 1st and the peak that got us into doing the US state high points. Thank you for showing it to me in a new way and congrats on summiting in the snowy conditions!
Wheeler was a good day for us. In fact all three days we spent in the area were picture perfect. New Mexico is definitely a place I hope to visit again sooner rather than later. Thanks for watching!
Another gem 💎👍👌 I love the history and geology lesson. And of course, the scenery.
Thanks! This area of New Mexico does a great job of living up the "Land of Enchantment" state nickname.
@@RooftopsofAmerica very true! 👍
Awesome!
Thank you!
I did wheeler peak in early September of 2020. Although one of the foggiest days I could've chosen to summit, it was still one of the most surreal, best, coolest fall days I could've chosen. Can't wait to go back when it's clearer. Thanks for this great educational videos!
Thanks! I had an experience like that at Black Elk Peak. Otherworldly.
I summitted Wheeler last fall as my 11th state highpoint. There was no snow at all on the mountain but it was extremely windy at the top. I wish I would have had more time to explore Taos but it looks like a beautiful area. Great job as always!!
Nice job and thank you! It was a cool area, the three days we were there was not nearly enough time. Hopefully I'll get back there again soon as well. Cheers!
Thanks Skye, absolutely fantastic content and congrats on yet another great accomplishment. I’ll be climbing Wheeler in a couple weeks as my 32nd state Highpoint and your video has me hyped. Btw, I’m also growing my international Highpoint list (9 total currently)
Thanks Marc I appreciate it! Best of luck out there. Wheeler is a nice hike with some amazing views.
Great Info! Great Highpoint!
Thank you!
Skye, as a retired teacher I am thoroughly impressed how complete you are in each of your video episodes. This is outstanding work! Now my question.... you are about right where I am with the state high points. So Kings and Boundary I guess are on deck. Then Mt Whitney or Mauna Kea then???? McKinley and Granite are out, so how do you feel about Gannet, Borah, Hood and Rainier. Or are you going to cross that bridge when you get there?
We're planning on Boundary this year. 2020 really threw off the great western extravaganza we had planned, saving it for 2022 now. For the time being since I'm living in PA these days I'll be focusing on New England and New York. Thanks for your kind words and for watching! Cheers!
I'm planning to do Wheeler Peak on May 2nd, when did you film the hike to Wheeler Peak?
We actually filmed this in the last half of June 2019. (They had a ton of snow that winter.)
I'm exhausted from just watching that hike! I'd hate to be the person who maintains those trails....
Nothing but respect for the trail crews. I've encountered a few in my hiking adventures and they are mostly volunteers and passionate about the outdoors.
i wonder if in any of wheelers or any of his teams writings, say anything about UAPs
In my research and review of the writings of the four major surveys I have not come across or spotted any reference or description that would fall into that category but I'm usually focused just on descriptions of the mountains themselves.
Dude, do you purposefully pick the windiest day of the year in each state to do these hikes? Lol
LOL! Just dumb luck!
This is great , but Oñate is pronounced o-NYAH-tay, and Acoma ACK-oma.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Learn your history dude .
