Choose Life! Way to go, Phil, Trainspotting was such a good movie. So glad someone else agrees with me! Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, and the flats are gorgeous. Lovely episode. Thanks for the upload.
Edinburgh is mad, In 1991 I bought a 2 bedroom flat just at the back of Holyrood Palace and a few steps from Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat for £35k. Those were the days 😂
Must be a tough one for you Kirsty to welcome Pip's assistance. Can't say I blame you though, those 2 haven't a clue what they want... yet! You crack me up and give me giggles. Thank you for that too.
As a student years ago used to rent a basement flat in Lesley place Stockbridge (cheap then) same basement flat now mad money,,,its half a mill....weird one ,,it transpires my grandmother years before,,at the age of 14 lived their in the same basement flat as a serving girl. It was the one town house back then.
I live on the west coast of Scotland and people don't realize how small and acccessible this UK island is. I can go from Glasgow to Edinburgh in under an houron the train. In the states it can take that just to get to work in some areas. Here, I've traveled from one coast to the other in that amount of time. They could live in any surrounding area for less and train in @ 10 min. They'll figure it out. This is also an older episode so they may have all moved on by now.
I’m disappointed that the American couple were brave enough to move several thousand miles away but couldn’t see that just a few steps further out of a town they could have had that property they decided to pass on. How ironic that they found something different within the same town that the wife couldn’t quite come to grips with during the search. I think the house Phil showed them was a better buy but that’s what happens when you get in your own way. Best of luck to
Especially when you have a primary school age kid. As soon as they move school, you'll have a new community with the families there. Her argument wasn't logical imo 🤷♀️
40min commute to edinburgh....only in ideal circumstances, usually more like an hour. and I agree with James I don't like the open plan kitchen living set up
Chandra & Tom really like Stockbridge but its outwith them financially they should look at Portobello, fast becoming Stockbridge mark 2 - its knee-deep in Barbour jackets
Looking at the floorplan of that first house with two bedrooms, I wonder if they could knock together the utility room and the storage room and take some space from that front bedroom and make a small, but usable third bedroom? That would also eliminate those two doors opening out into the hall which would also be nice. They could put the laundry into the storage room in the back bedroom.
3 bed flat in Stockbridge for £340 000. Haha. No chance. Haha! Ha! We live in 3 bed flat in Marchmont = £425000. And it was a shithole when we moved in. 16 years aGO.
Oh the naivete and to be fair Phil couldn't keep a straight face. Gonna watch to see where they end up because they ain't getting 3 bedrooms in Stockbridge for £340k
The third properties for both couples were the loveliest. I don't like the property tom and Chandra bought at all, but not my money, not my choice. However, the look on Chandra's face tells me she doesn't like it either.
5 minutes in and as soon as I hear their requirements and budget I'm creasing myself laughing.......£340k in that area of Edinburgh is tenement city and will get you if you're lucky a top floor 1 bedroom tenement flat. Relocated to Edinburgh in 1994 and have knowledge of the local property market.
it's losing its charm and links to its own history too, and becoming Harry Potter world. I'd rather folk visited that were interested in Edinburgh for its own merits
@@superducker7899 all effort to make Edinburgh liveable for its residents is subordinate to short-term cash. The city is a Disneyfied Harry Potter World, with tourists completely unaware of the real history of the streets and sights they're looking at
Couldn't agree more!!!!!!!! My husband works full time and I work part-time for the NHS. We are stuck in a ugly, cold ex council flat that my husband bought as a Bachelor with an exterior that is falling apart. We have tried to move (our budget was absolute max. £210) but Edinburgh has become too expensive for "normal" people to buy. It's so unfair as we are hard working locals, contributing to the community. 😰😰😰
Stockbridge where the Edinburgh botanical garden is is about 3 mi from City Center. Of course The apartment in your budget was teeny tiny... Also, I didn't know you could work for a US company and live in the UK. I'd love to live an hour from edinburgh in one of the coastal towns.
Plenty of people now work for companies abroad and live in the UK, myself included 😊 Stockbridge is very close to the ciy centre, you can walk up to princes street in around 15 mins.
@@paulabee81 so all the actual Scottish people have to leave and the city just becomes some other place. My family have been here for at least 7 generations
How is £340k "on a budget". Nobody buying in Stockbridge is on a budget. This is typical Location Location Location. I'd like to see them find a couple with a genuine budget of £150k a flat in Edinburgh, instead of these people with vastly overinflated budgets. It's just not realistic.
I don’t think the issue was that they were picky. They just didn’t know what they wanted. The problem here was their search was too broad and they needed to narrow it down.
They certainly don't present as a strong couple. Maybe the push of having to buy a place together with Dad returning home is a bit of a shock?. I hope that it works out for the lady, she seems much clearer.
Sometimes when i watch these programmes and the couples are difficult, i alwzys think the big issue is that they dont actually want to buy. One or both of them just doesnt want to do it. But they cant admit it to themselves.
@@emilyhops2566 But they did end up buying a house after Kirstie left. Keep in mind that Phil and Kirstie are only there for a few days and they’re only looking at 3 to 4 houses with them. Not everyone is going to find a house in that short period of time. Even if they do find a house they like, they might not get the house in the end. It’s happened so many times. They’re outbid by someone else. The seller changes their mind. The buyer changes their mind. Etc

It's indigenous local population of working and middle class Scots are being socially cleansed out of the town. City is town of rich English incomers.

Cramond is close to sea. I'd move there in a minute. I think they will love their new home and area!
Cramond has quite a lot of aircraft noise.
Not the sea. It's the River Forth.
I absolutely LOVE Kirstie & Phil!!!! They are perfect together

A wee bit misinformation, Stockbridge is about a mile from city center plus the botanical gardens are in goldenacre/cannonmills .👍
There's an entrance to the botanics behind Hectors, in the heart of Stockbridge
Thankyou!
Great. A new video. With hiccup but lovely ending.

When was this programme made? It doesn't say but the property prices are so cheap.
2017
If you watch the credits at the end of the programme, it does say 2017.
Cramond, Dalry and Ravelston would have mde more sense for the airport/city couple.
The American couple bought their home for £315000 in June 2017. The house 3 doors up the street sold for £435000 in June 2024.
Her in the chair couldn’t crack a smile if she tried
This is what happens when people base their house search on having watched The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. But wanting Stockbridge over Cramond....?
Stockbridge is way better
And my tiny 250 sq ft . Studio flat in Notting Hill has just been valued at 330k ….hmmmm🤔
Edinburgh is basically now the most northerly English city in the U.K.!!!

Spot on

Exactly. As a resident of the city i feel like the council does not have my interests at heart and is only concerned with private profit.

Enjoyable episode, apart from the moments I had to listen to the typical american vocal fry that sounds like a granny with a bad cold.
Americans have vocal fry down to perfection!
340 for stockbridge for a 3 bed, that's asking for a lot!! just move outer a tiny bit
2 bed
340 for a two bed is still be possible but definitely not a 3 unless one of them was the boxroom and the other created via a fake wall
Were heads roll off
Edinburgh is a broken city.
James just doesnt want to live with his girlfriend. Plain and simple.
I can’t stand these two so glad I don’t have a tv anymore
Not a single Scottish person
