Great video, Thanks. I bought my car last week and due to your video I checked the shift adjuster screw and guess what? it was completely stuck. To get the gearbox out I had to almost disassemble the complete car, by taking the shift assembly out I had a good grip on it, with a lot of patience, courage and sweat it came free. With a very little tiny drop of WD40 it runs smooth now.
I feel your pain with this new Savage. I have only just got mine shifting. In some ways I wish I bought the older model. Glad you got it sorted. Doesn't help that the shift is really quiet as well in the new version.
Oh no... I just bought the new one but haven't opened it yet lol. I'm hoping it's better than my Revo 3.3. Do you like your Savage? Or is it too much work to be fun? What issues have you had?
I'd love to get a new hpi x. I've got a old school 4.6 x I've had for years. When I bought my x maxx a lot of nitro rc's got pushed aside, now I'm trying to get the x running but the motor is toast. But I might invest in a new motor I see on ebay.
I really appreciate your video and honesty man I bought this truck and didn't even take it out the box yet and at 700 now I have to do all these upgrades. Question man have u done a video with what u would recommend to so out of the box ?if so maybe drop me a link love the honesty
I burnt through my exhaust to bro. Im not putting another crappy one of those nylon pipes on - got a pretty cheap alloy one. Keep us to date with your savage bro!! I replaced my first stripped spur the other night - all the screws on the handle pretty much stripped making it very hard to get out - got there in the end. Had the same issue with my transmission haha. Tyres also need gluing always Scared to run it again - just hoping the diffs hold up lol. Bring on the weekend 🔥
Lol it’s wild how hpi sends this truck to the customers. I was one of the first in the states to get mine and post a video and it was literally exactly what happened to you here. To much loktite. Exhaust spring broke. Then when I finally fixed the transmission both diffs blew because the shimming was so bad. There was so much side to side play.
had the exact same problems... lost the exhaust spring (melted the exhaust too cause of bad fuel) and the 2nd speed screw was stuck ... i think i saw rust on it. they probably use the old savage parts they had in storage :/ (oh and today i broke a fin off of the engine)
I blame you fo my new find of interest in the nitro would, just joking around but I am going to get my uncles T-maxx when I buy it from him and I may save up for a brand new tmaxx or a revo 3.3 not sure.
its locked in second you need to screw it in mine was locked like that as well because it was all the way out, i screwed it in nearly 2 turns and then it started to shift and the pick up of the truck increased as it was finally engaging first
The QC and assembly on those new HPI models is NOT good from what I gathered. The gear shift seems to be one of the most problematic areas. Either the grub screws are bolted tight, with tons of loctite holding them in, or they are lose and destroy the gearbox.
New subscriber here. In my opinion I think it's best to use a hex driver to adjust the shift points. You can use an allen wrench but it'll flex. Sucks tho that your having transmission issues my friend.
Hey new subscriber here. So ive got same truck and waiting to see tomorrow if the adjustment is now shifting...mine came same way with trans and also my slipper was way too tight and melted just at the ass end of break in. So ive heard (you included) 4 times about the plastic pipe melting. Do u have any ideas of what your going to replace yours with?
Great video Chef! I just picked up a Savage 4.6 V2 last week. Haven't gotten it out of the box yet but hoping I can get it running well for my sand pits. I want to be able to do wheelies and back flips with it. I've had issues with my T-Maxx and Revo 3.3 models, so I was hoping this would be a better option. Appreciate the video and your honest experiences. Hopefully things go smoothly for me. Seemed like you had yours running great at the end there, minus the exhaust of course. What did you end up doing with the exhaust? Did you replace it with an aftermarket upgrade?
I don’t even want to sound like I hate the truck. I want to like it considering it’s 20 year reputation😂 but man, for the price it’s a pretty expensive disappointment. On the bright side the engine tunes very well
Every other video i see of these hpi savages, its has problems, and now scared to buy one!!!! I mean im not illiterate when it comes to rc repairs, ive been in this hobby since 1984, but i dont want manufacturing issues
I really learned to tune when I didn't use a temp gun. some times engines run hotter but the tune is good sometimes they don't

You just have to take one of the tvp’s off one side and it comes right out once you take the rest of the screws out
Nice video man, ive been eyeing these new savage x's!

Awesome video dude...if it was me I would have sent it back to hpi & told them to install another transmission or give my money back!!!

Yeah just get a new motor for your old one if you go on Jenny's rc they have it new sometimes
100% same problems I had to a T. Broken exhaust spring and 2spd adjusting screw all the way in with loctite on it and a bear to get loose.

Good stufff! Too bad $800 and you get a plastic exhaust lol. Love the savage but your right they need to get their stuff together
@DavidRC at my LHS it was almost $800 my bad
Also isn't an rtr in my eyes didn't come with a way to run the servos or glow ignitor like the older one did

New low quality SavageX and wrong tuning.
