just some kids playing a game
this is sort of my sendoff to homestuck. i havent been into it in a while, but it took up a significant portion of my life so i feel an obligation to say a little goodbye
the songs are in tribute to classic homestuck songs that were popular back in the day

i know the whole concept of them just being kids playing pretend is really overdone but i wanted to draw it anyhow, for nostalgia's sake
this is also my longest speedpaint to date waow (12 hours of my life im never getting back)
i said that i wouldn't be drawing any more homestuck after this, but that's not entirely true! i might do more pieces here and there, but im not really IN the fandom anymore, yknow?

the fact that major parts of the comic are literally just pieces of games and can be portrayed using simple stuff kills me inside. it really hits home how its just a game.

This image makes me wonder if the entire comic wasn't just a computer game these kids played, but a game of pretend. Like they mishmashed all their favorite things from anime, to games, to movies, to aliens, and so on, into one full day of pretend. Because they had nothing better to do that day. And they pulled out all the stops, because the next day everyone was going to say good bye and go back home to their respective states. And probably not get to hang out all together again for a long while. So this day was a day of epic proportions. The best game they had ever played. A game they'd never forget.

yep! very cute! also everyone dies like at least once
and ugh, the poor mom and dad from across the street who are SO overworked drop their twelve kids(!!) off at the beta's house for a few days a week,(the beta's parents dont mind) and oh boy they love playing with them. one girl who is, honestly, a textbook furry, likes to ship her friends together in these four different ways her crazy granddad made up. one girl who didnt want to play in the first place ended up getting really into it and even made a special pair of glasses for it, with eight dots on one lens. one older brother thinks this game is dumb, because magic isnt real of course, but Rose obviously gets him to play and even gives him a wand! one girl spends her whole weekend making a cool sword to play with(it takes the whole weekend because shes blind), and she likes playing with John the most. the youngest brother is a very ornery boy who yells quite a bit, but calms down when Dave and Jade help him make an awesome sickle that he got to color however he liked. i love this idea leave me

you really captured little kids really good here! all the little band aids, bruises, crocs etc. look so fun and innocent :)
I used to wear crocs when I was little, and I used to think they were the coolest shit ever, and wear some EVERYWHERE.
...now I just want to kill my past self lmao
I love how this painting has so many aspects from the game and its like it was never actually real, Just kids using their imagination. Excellent work
+Ticci Toby That would have been a hell of a pretend game, too. Me and my friends came up with games like that when we were little. And there were romance plots everywhere and all kinds of weird ass, dramatic shenanigans. I wouldn't put it past Homestuck to have been just an epic session of pretend between a handful of kids on the cusp of puberty.
Nostalgia just hit me like a brick.
It was a great choice to watch this right before going sleep, I'm totally not crying.

I literally burst into tears when the video was finished. This is so perfect, you put so much detail into it and really put life into these characters that I've loved and followed for four years. Not only was the art incredible, but the music choices were just perfect and this was a great end to the final day of Homestuck. Thank you so much for making this.

this is really pretty tbh. when it started playing "let's see how far we've come" I almost started to cry . I just can't believe homestuck is ending... like, I get what you mean about not being part of the fan base anymore, I fell out of love with it nearly a year ago now, but it was still a huge part of my life!

The amount of detail you put in this piece particularly is amazing, like adding a bandage on Jade's heel, the bruise on John's knee, and all of the toys on the ground. If you're indeed entering this for the T-Shirt contest, I would definitely buy this :3 great work!
