    Knowing Kurosawa had a failed suicide attempt in 1971 makes me cherish this movie even more. So grateful it was a failed attempt

    In my youth, I could not imagine how Andrzej Wajda did not get an Oscar for 'A land of promise' which is an outstanding masterpiece and one of my favourite movies of all time. Then I got acquainted with Kurosawa's work and watched Dersu Uzala. Then I thought: I get it. That's fair. ❤️

    A Poem in both visuals and story. Just natural, friendship and nostalgy.
    This is the movie that my father watched when he was just a 7 year old kid. During a hot boring tuesday he brought up the majesty of this film, and he told me it was his favourite movie of all time. Later, when he was dying, he asked me to watch it and so i promised, and after his funeral i did watch it all, without loosing a single second. He was right.

    A little mistake: Danelya wasn't a producer. USSR didn't have producers, soviet government sponsored all movies that were made. I don't even know why Danelya was there, he had no connection to the movie. Maybe he was in the government at that time, idk
    Also, a little fact: the budget of the movie was $4 mil, ENORMOUS money for that time.

    Некоторые фильмы Данелия тоже достойны Оскара...

  • @Rovatorin
    @Rovatorin 7 років тому +10

    может мой перевод не столь точен, но я процитирую:
    "Why do we make this film? People need chases, jiggery-pokery, shooting?" (asked the first assistant director)
    "people themselves do not understand how they need this film" (replied the director (Akiro Kurosawa))
    p.s. мало людей знает, что американской академией, ввиду непонятливости - какой стране вручать фильм (СССР или Японии) сделали 2 оригинала "оскара", при вручении 1 статуэтку забрал продюсер фильма... больше эту статуэтку никто не видел, даже Куросава!... второй же оригинал не простым способом попал в Москву. Чуть позже в Москве была сделана 2 точная копия статуэтки - для того, что бы вручить её главному режиссеру фильма - Куросаве... Однако, наши ребята повели себя более честно, чем главный продюсер: они "перемешали" статуэтки и Куросава, когда выбирал из предложенных "оскаров" - выбирал совершенно случайно (даже сами русские не знали, что именно выберет он).. в итоге оказалось, что:
    Куросава остался без "оскара", а настоящие "оскары" разъехались пополам по Японии и СССР.

      Там на самом деле от Японии был отдельно номинирован другой фильм, "Дерсу Узала" был конкретно от СССР, хотя и вправду непонятно, зачем сделали две статуэтки.

    Of course they had to make an all-American statement about their ego before handling an Oscar to Soviet Union
    And both the Oscar recipients did a very poor speech, they should be able to speak in their mother tongue
