"This is quite possibly the stupidest thing we've ever done." "Oh, I don't know about that." 😆 Well done gentlemen. As if triathlon isn't hard enough, go ahead and add extreme elements to it!
the exact same thing happened to me! Biked up from waikaloa, clouds rolled in just after I finished the gravel. Ranger comes up and tells me to go back down. You know what, im glad cuz I was going to walk my bike up the last 2 miles. Now I have an excuse!
Nice effort boys, in Japan we do the Mt Fuji IM challenge every year, Swim 2.4 in Lake Yamanaka, ride the 112 miles around the Fuji 5 Lakes & surrounding mountains, then a run up Mt Fuji and back down the lave rock trail… finish at our favorite Onsen … All parts of this challenge are organized events in themselves… we just took the natural step next like the Ironman founders did…. Cheers
Bravo!! Triggers fond memories of my challenge doing the Paia to the top of Haleakala and back ride and still the disbelief when I see Haleakala that I was able to ride to the top. Best feeling from a ride ever on the way back down through the clouds (more of scattered clouds) and being able to take in what I had just been able to do.
Great adventure! People are really starting to discover Mauna Kea and the incredible challenge it is to ride it. Glad to see you guys showcasing another part of the island!
@@gtn A little much for me! The slopes of Mauna Loa are much more gentle for us mortals! The paved road actually goes a little higher with a fun descent!
Really enjoyed watching this video. Found myself laughing at your pain, as it brought back so many memories. Can’t wait to do it again as well as Haleakala. Good job guys!
You sure got much and varied content out of your trip to Hawaii this time! Even though you didn’t reach the top, this seemed like quite the effort. BTW, this kind of content is my favorite.
Kudos to you guys. I’ve only been up there on a shuttle bus. Crazy cold and steep! Good on ya for giving it a good. The view from the top is great. Take the bus next time. :)
One hand says, "You boys should be doing Kona". Other says, "Nooo... The community needs your entertainment and dedication to the sport". Ugh the struggle.
E.P.I.C! One of my favorite things to do with all this endurance training stuff is to take on epic solo, non-organized event challenges in this vein. Of course at my age (63) my challenges are far more modest! Even though you weren’t allowed to finish this one, the adventure is in the attempt! Good onya! 🤙🏻
Crikey I know you said what ur intention was at the beginning of the video n when u done the ‘token’ swim i didn’t really take it too seriously as to what u we’re about to attempt - u were v laid back the both of you - man, did you expect it to be quite as difficult as it turned out to be ?! Massive kudos to you both amazing fete guys xx
Yep! I’m in an agreement with at least one other commenter that Heather needs to accompany you guys all the way to the top, and steak some GTN flag in the ground!
Awesome video guys. You have to watch the Vegan cyclist worlds hardest ride. He rides from sea level to the top. Epic adventure for you guys. I’ve driven up it and that was hard enough for me :)
What other epic challenges shall we take on? Share your ideas with us! 👇
It would’ve been a lot more hilarious if there was a slip’n’slide down from the top for 2.4mi for the “swim” portion… 😂😂😂
Winter triatlon and ice skate the swim !
Gr from Thijs
Nederland
Well... Ultraman course!
TMBT Mount Kinabalu next 👍
Everest triathlon? Not actually on Everest (though that would be pretty epic), just the elevation equivalents.

I think the no fueling Ironman was dumber
Hahaha we loved this one 🙌
You 3 (Heather included!) are incredible! Incredible video plus the new GTN trisuit looks SIIICK!

This is the GTN we're here for. Some hard fought miles. Great job team
Big day out for the boys 💪
Now this is a World Championship course I can get behind. Smart move from James with the road bike.
You sure got much and varied content out of your trip to Hawaii this time! Even though you didn’t reach the top, this seemed like quite the effort. BTW, this kind of content is my favorite.
Enjoyed every second of this while suffering in ZWIFT. Well done!
One of the best episodes ever!
James and Mark repping the proudly South African versus socks. Stellies all the way. Unreal 🔥🔥🔥

Super cool vídeo boys… love it.
My wife saw snow for the first time in her life when we visited the top of that volcano.
Bet that was a great moment 😊
Is it bad that I get great pleasure in seeing you guys go through so much pain 😆
I actually live at 1800m so it’s a little funny to hear that some people do camps for this altitude 😂
Wow. Try the same thing on Tenerife vulcano.

I was wondering, why are you not using the integrated hydration in your Canyon?
Tough as hell that! 👏🏽 Can anyone tell me what make/model of sunglasses the guys are wearing? They match my frame so well 😍😎
Yip, you’ll have to do it again - just think of all the great views you (and we) missed out on 😅! Great content chaps.
Maybe we'll go beat our time next year 🤔
You made my Zwift session so much easier to finish 🏆
How a real IM Kona Course should be setup 💪🏽. GTN crew doing it right 🥳🤙🏽!
It would a be one great route ! 💪
You guys just made the Hawaiian version of the Norseman ! crazy good .
Great to hear you enjoyed it 🙌
My biggest question is when will those sweet GTN trisuits be available?? I sense a Black Friday special?
👀
Nice to see something different maybe some event's should be o on sighty harder courses
This is my favourite performance by Alastair Brownlee, he was a class apart at his peak in ITU ua-cam.com/video/iXAywu18bcY/v-deo.html
I've ridden from Wiakola Beach resort to the summit of the Saddle Rd. No trees or shade.
Tough ride 🙌
Awesome challenge, next time gents!
i would have loved to join in on this adventure :D
Impressive boys.
Sorry if I missed it but how far was the bike? Awesome stuff.
90km ride, and lots of climbing 🥵
better to turn, the weather can get pretty hard there, especially in your cloth (nothing warming)😅.
What is the canyon bike, Mark is riding?
Bonkers but love it
Now that's a great little leg opener!! Great Video
