- This is how I went about installing a Sustainiac system in an Ibanez guitar. I am not able to give estimates on installs without the guitar in hand.
Please note that I am not a dealer in Sustainiac products.
This is amazing. I’ve been looking for videos to give a better idea of what goes into an installation for a sustainiac, so thank you so much for the demonstration!!!
Very professional work and excellent tutorial. It's great to see craftsmen still taking pride in their work.
Your workmanship is excellent. 👍
I love how Ibanez rounds their frets. Makes for such a clean look
Your work is top shelf ,,,all the way! Love the video. Thank you for sharing.
Another great video! Highly informative, and very nice work! The one issue I can see when building this setup, is that if you have any issues with your volume or tone pot, you have to dig under all the sustainiac wiring. But hopefully that's a non issue for a while. Thanks for all the videos and work you show us!!
That's why I recommend a full rewire anytime I do this. The pots for the magnetic pickups were replaced at the same time.
@@MillCityLutherie thanks for the information, always looking forward to your next videos. Thanks for showing us 👍👍
Exceptional work!
Also, big fan of the Sustainiac here. Like any tool, they can be overused (just like the whammy bar), but with proper judgment, they're amazing.
Nice video! I'm hoping Alan Hoover (at Sustainiac) can get a full board done in surface mount /multi-layer PCB thats MUCH smaller eventually. He does sell right angle switch boards that are easier to locate, and 7 string units too!
Dude, You did a great job there!
It would’ve been great to see you actually route the battery cavity and the pick up cavity as well, what approach you used bit, etc. installing all that stuff is the easy part cutting the wood on your guitar would be the challenge for most
Just bought a Schector explorer with a sustainiac pickups
Agree. Would've liked to see the actual routing.
I've actually wanted to install one into my RG for a few years now, but man is that some work!
Me too. But doing such a procedure on my RG prestige seems pretty scary...
I'm here for the same reason. I have an unnamed 7 string Ibanez which I'm assuming is some sort of RG made in 2003 and I want to install an Sustaniac system in. I'm not afraid of working on it because when I was a teenager, I did one hell of a job refinishing it so I'm thinking I might as well redo the paint job while I'm at it. I have a router and a Dremel but I'd have to buy the proper bits. The gears in my head are turning haha
I've cheesed it in my RG most the way, (didn't even take the strings off and pickup well was deep enough to not need any routing!! Confused on the wiring, but need to make a little bit of space to get control plate on. Also left battery hanging out the tremolo back plate😂
Beautiful job! That looked like a tight fit.
Great and CLEAN job. :)
This is an excellent video!!!!!
Brilliant work.
Good video but would have liked to see the tuning in of this unit , they rarely work first time when fully connected up.
Excellent work!! Very well done, Sir!!
Amazing work, good luck 👍
Great video! Just installed a ghost piezo kit, don't think I've enough room for this board too :(
great video . ive always wanted to install it to my stratocaster . but theres not much information about installing sustainiac into strats . could you someday make a video about it . love your video man
Looking forward to installing the Vega term on my EOB Strat
That’s a lot of work. I wish they invent something that wont took the same effort for it. Btw, nice tutorial dude.
beautiful job
I live in minneapolis and I’m planning on getting a sustainiac for my birthday in April
If you're commenting because you're looking for someone to instal it, my contact info is under about. Otherwise I have another video coming soon. They are typically not a DIY level thing.
I was hoping you would show the routing process. Cool vid either way.
wooo thats a pretty bass.
Excellent job here!
Great job man! One question, the sustainiac humbucker can split? I mean what happened in the second position of the pickups selector? When it splits the neck humbucker and plays it together with the middle single pickup. Thanks!
It's not a humbucker at all. One side is just a plastic shell to make it look like a humbucker so it can replace a humbucker without looking weird.
@@MillCityLutherie what?🤯 Do you wanna tell me that they're all single coils? The sustainiac humbucker that I have on my schecter is actually a single coil? So in conclusion you're not "losing" the second position? Thanks for the reply!
Hi, I am also in Minnesota. Where do you order the Sustainiac from? I am building a guitar in which I would like a Sustainiac like my Schecter...
Excellent video! It comes at the right time. Question did you have to make adjustments on the sustainiac pre-amp? I have a Schecter with a sustainiac. I sent it out to have some work done on it. But when I got the guitar back the response of the sustainiac was not the same. It seem to be loader then what it was and over powered the note when I played it. I searched the internet and found the manuel for my guitar.
there are 3 small knobs where can make adjustments on the sustaniac board
. I am hoping to get it back to the factory default. It also states in the manuel that the pick up hight adjustment also plays apart in the sustainiac response. I may be interested in some work from you :)
The batteries run out fast on these. Check that first. Low voltage gives off weird symptoms. After that Sustainiac has some instructions on their site for how to adjust the trim pots to your liking.
I am looking to install some Sustainiacs in an older Schecter Blackjack ATX from the late 2000s. It is my work horse, but agter years of using EMG Xs, I want to get more „modern“ picks: Sustainiac for the neck and Fishman Fluence for the bridge pick up. Is that at all a possible combination to have?
It is but you'll need room for two 9v batteries, one for the Fluences and one for the Sustainiac. Really wish these didn't take up so much space.
How much does a job like this cost?
Nice 👍
I messed up the wiring, trying to figure out how to connect my 3 wire humbucker bridge and single coil mid to the 5 way ibanez switch
I’m in Duluth, I’ve got a Schecter solo 2 black Jack that I want to install this kit to , I couldn’t find information to contact you . How can I get in touch with you ?
Must be nice to be a great Luther..... You make everything look easy and I know it's not
I’d like to do this with both of my Jackson Kellys. I have EMG 57/66 pickups, but one of them already has a battery cavity for an AB220 boost controller that I had installed from Sweetwater. How much would a job like this cost? I’m very interested in getting this done 😊
Edit that may make the install a bit less complicated:
Instead of using EMGs, I’ll be going back to Seymour Duncan with both guitars. I’ll be using a PATB-2 Distortion Parallel Axis in both guitars.
I would use a ESD mat and bracelet.
Which router I used to router the space?
how much does it cost to get sustaniac installed ?
How much for the labor?
I want to do this, but I have a single master volume and a 3 way LP toggle, and the only drilling I want to do is the on/off switch. I can have the mode just set to mix without a switch.
Contact Sustainiac directly. They will draw up a wiring diagram for your specific layout, and if the switching can be done they will let you know.
Does this particular sustainiac bypass the selector switch?
How to order sustaniac on their website?
What kind of router did you use for this to be able to get down into the tight compartment space? Router bit on a drill press or some fixture on a Dremel tool?
Just a long router bit.
Is it possible to custom make a different color cover on the sustainiac that would incorporate the metal strip from the original?
Contact them. I think they make white ones as well.
how much do you charge to install one of these if I sent you the guitar? and where you located? thank you!
Please contact me directly using the contact information provided.
Hi. Is there a link where I buy Sustainiac Pickups? To you ship to Brazil???
They sell direct to customer. I don't do these often enough to inquire about becoming a dealer.
What's the difference between the Sustainiac humbucker from the single-coil?
If you haven't figured it out yet, it's nothing- the humbucker version has a dummy coil to fit the space of a humbucker
is it possible to remove those switches from the board and run them to the board via some separate leads? i have two switches on a soloist im trying to replace that arent the same locations as the board.
It's possible, but I would ask Sustainiac directly if they could sell it to you that way. Without proper soldering tools you could damage something.
Hey I have a question, is the sustainiac pickup noisless? I feel like mine was noisless but im not shure, I tried a battery mod and I may have fried something now it is noisi with distortion compared to my bridge...
They eat batteries really fast, and when voltage is low can become quirky . Try a new 9 volt. If that doesn't work there's tons of info on the Sustainiac website.
@@MillCityLutherie I did something stupid I tried to put a power bank inside my guitar with a step up converter but the step up converter turned out to to be not that stable and when I measured it it read 10v instead of 9... ever since there is noise in the sustainiac when I use it as a pickup not as a sustainer.... I dont know where to send this to get fixed... I fear I fried something...
I've been wanting to do this to my 540s but I think its too thin of a guitar...
Check out the veyz sustainer pickup it has a much smaller footprint and smaller board
Where do u buy one
From Sustainiac, I'm not a dealer.
Id like to put a sustainiac in a les paul with a floyd rose..
Les Pauls and Floyds don't go together well. LP is too thick of s body and the trem needs to be too high off the body. A modified LP design would work.
Never paired sustainiac with passive pickup they won't work well
I have a schecter elite with fishman fluence modern active pickup and work great but I install dimarzio don't work well then reinstall emg active work great then reinstall seymour duncan won't work well
The driver needs to be wired differently for active or passive pickups. Their polarity is different. Consult the sustainiac website for what to do.
You didn’t show the process. Clicked off due to that. Just not informative enough.
My videos are promotional, not tutorial.
Neck PU is an odd choice that the customer wanted. Thanks for showing this. Im getting a Bridge version. What is the measurement between the two switches for your holes? Winona MN native.
