  • This is how I went about installing a Sustainiac system in an Ibanez guitar. I am not able to give estimates on installs without the guitar in hand.
    Please note that I am not a dealer in Sustainiac products.

    This is amazing. I’ve been looking for videos to give a better idea of what goes into an installation for a sustainiac, so thank you so much for the demonstration!!!

    Another great video! Highly informative, and very nice work! The one issue I can see when building this setup, is that if you have any issues with your volume or tone pot, you have to dig under all the sustainiac wiring. But hopefully that's a non issue for a while. Thanks for all the videos and work you show us!!

      That's why I recommend a full rewire anytime I do this. The pots for the magnetic pickups were replaced at the same time.

    Also, big fan of the Sustainiac here. Like any tool, they can be overused (just like the whammy bar), but with proper judgment, they're amazing.

    Nice video! I'm hoping Alan Hoover (at Sustainiac) can get a full board done in surface mount /multi-layer PCB thats MUCH smaller eventually. He does sell right angle switch boards that are easier to locate, and 7 string units too!

    It would’ve been great to see you actually route the battery cavity and the pick up cavity as well, what approach you used bit, etc. installing all that stuff is the easy part cutting the wood on your guitar would be the challenge for most

      I'm here for the same reason. I have an unnamed 7 string Ibanez which I'm assuming is some sort of RG made in 2003 and I want to install an Sustaniac system in. I'm not afraid of working on it because when I was a teenager, I did one hell of a job refinishing it so I'm thinking I might as well redo the paint job while I'm at it. I have a router and a Dremel but I'd have to buy the proper bits. The gears in my head are turning haha

    • @mudassirul
      @mudassirul 2 місяці тому

      I've cheesed it in my RG most the way, (didn't even take the strings off and pickup well was deep enough to not need any routing!! Confused on the wiring, but need to make a little bit of space to get control plate on. Also left battery hanging out the tremolo back plate😂

    Great job man! One question, the sustainiac humbucker can split? I mean what happened in the second position of the pickups selector? When it splits the neck humbucker and plays it together with the middle single pickup. Thanks!

    • @MillCityLutherie
      @MillCityLutherie  7 місяців тому

      It's not a humbucker at all. One side is just a plastic shell to make it look like a humbucker so it can replace a humbucker without looking weird.

      @@MillCityLutherie what?🤯 Do you wanna tell me that they're all single coils? The sustainiac humbucker that I have on my schecter is actually a single coil? So in conclusion you're not "losing" the second position? Thanks for the reply!

  • @mixc8
    @mixc8 4 місяці тому

    Excellent video! It comes at the right time. Question did you have to make adjustments on the sustainiac pre-amp? I have a Schecter with a sustainiac. I sent it out to have some work done on it. But when I got the guitar back the response of the sustainiac was not the same. It seem to be loader then what it was and over powered the note when I played it. I searched the internet and found the manuel for my guitar.
    there are 3 small knobs where can make adjustments on the sustaniac board
    . I am hoping to get it back to the factory default. It also states in the manuel that the pick up hight adjustment also plays apart in the sustainiac response. I may be interested in some work from you :)

    • @MillCityLutherie
      @MillCityLutherie  4 місяці тому

      The batteries run out fast on these. Check that first. Low voltage gives off weird symptoms. After that Sustainiac has some instructions on their site for how to adjust the trim pots to your liking.

    I am looking to install some Sustainiacs in an older Schecter Blackjack ATX from the late 2000s. It is my work horse, but agter years of using EMG Xs, I want to get more „modern“ picks: Sustainiac for the neck and Fishman Fluence for the bridge pick up. Is that at all a possible combination to have?

    • @chrisboller46
      @chrisboller46 2 роки тому +2

      It is but you'll need room for two 9v batteries, one for the Fluences and one for the Sustainiac. Really wish these didn't take up so much space.
