for most cats it’s easy to tell where to cut. as long as they have clear nails (and not black nails) you can see the pink. if they have black nails (at least on dogs. i haven’t checked on my cat haha) there’s a black dot that u can see before you hit the spot. (i got the black nail info from a pet groomer and they were just talking about dogs but i’m sure it’s the same for cats) also this is more of an add on from your last comment since i didn’t see anyone say what the spot that you shouldn’t cut is/ what it looks like :)

This information is not necesarily directed at you, Lola, I just think some people in this comment section might be helped by it.
Claw maintenance is great for indoor cats, and mandatory for senior cats. Some outdoor cats also need a little bit of care.
Clipping a little bit too far in is indeed painful for the cat, and they'll bleed, but it's not the end of the world and you shouldn't act like it is if an accident DOES happen(it'll just make it a scarier experience for the cat if you do) while you're learning to clip the claws. Keep calm, get some tissue paper and apply pressure for a minute or two to stop the bleeding(if the cat will let you, if they're aggressive rather than a bit shaken, leave them alone... They'll be fine, it's just that they might make a bit of a mess).
For most cats you only really need to get the very tip of the claw, and if you stick to just clipping very little and often you're unlikely to hurt them. The front paws will need a bit more maintenance, so you don't need to do all four every time. While you're getting them used to handling you can even pretend to clip their claws for a little bit every day. If the cat isn't very trusting of people, it might help to wrap them up snugly in a blanket since being held tightly seems to have a psychological effect of making a cat feel a bit more secure and safe.
While you're getting them used to it, expect very little. If you get to clip a couple of claws and they start getting the wiggles, let them go and do a few more later in the day. End every handling session with treats, praise and affection even if they weren't on their best behavior(don't worry, you're not going to reinforce mischief, hopefully you can take my word on this as someone that has taught all her cats a whole bunch of things through food rewards lol, if a cat could really make that kind of calculated connection from a pretty long chain of events, training them would be so much easier... anyways, bit of a tangent haha).

Totally understandable mix up, but Lavender is a Tortoiseshell, not a Calico. They both have the black, orange and white alleles. However, tortoiseshells are mostly black with bits of orange and white blended in, whereas Calicos are mostly white with patches of black and orange. Calicos also tend to have a pure white base, whereas the "white" patches on Tortoiseshell cats tend to be more off-white or cream. So, Calicos tend to stand out in appearance more than tortoiseshells. I have a Tortoiseshell and a calico, and there is a stark difference between their camouflage capabilities. My calico has such pure white fur that I can still see parts of her with the lights off. However, my tortoiseshell cat has such evenly blended fur that she can blend into any background she wants, even with the lights on. She's like a tiny ninja. Most of the time, I only notice my Tortie because I suddenly notice a pair of eyes staring at me. 😅

Here’s a tip as a SPCA for years ... when you try to open lavenders mouth squeeze both sides of her mouth with your thumb and pointer and she will open it. The swab was supposed to be in the cheek pouch, which is right above the teeth. Lavenders coat is most similar to a tortie and trimming their ears is unnecessary and may confuse their senses.
