If there is already internet service at the address, and it's "broadband" or "high speed" with 5 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up then you can do MagicJack or Ooma. Ooma is a one-time $75 charge for the device you connect to a landline phone (cordless or corded) then you only pay taxes each month (in Nevada it would be $6/mo). Better than $15/mo. MagicJack os about $50/year. I use MagicJack but will be switching next year to Ooma.
This upgrade we had to do a year or so ago was really a downgrade. I would try another company. I've called the repair line at least 4 times over the problems I'm having with it. I'm always told the same thing to reset it and waste about an hour or so of my time doing so. The problem we are having with it is it makes a like a fax coming in sound when you answer it often, but not every time. After you do what they say to do it gets better but never stops all together. When that does happen, you can't talk on it. Have the person hang up and call you back. It keeps the voicemail going when I never wanted it activated in the first place. They said it was turned off, but it isn't. The paint has peeled off the thing and they will do nothing about it. They will try to change the subject on you if you say something about it too. All 3 people that I know are all having the same problem with it and I think the upgrade should be recalled.

Very informative thank you
I am having issues opening the back. Can you please let me know how you did it? Thanks
The whole bottom slide off. I don't recall which direction. It should say in the directions. I am not near the unit to look.
Dan H Thank you. I got it off after and hour trying lol. Great video btw
@@richarddinapoli4457 It's easy once you figure out how it comes off. Thanks!
Dan H Now it’s much easier 👍
Does this work like wifi also? Consumer Cellular has the same thing and I am really struggling with my mom to change to the "new technology world" . Three months later how do your mom like it? I see that Verizon's wireless home service has only 1 star...I keep trying to bring my mom to the 2000's and she just get frustrated and goes back to her old school landline and cordless phone with the answering machine...HELP
Hello Bobbi, No, it is not like wifi. It is a cellular base station.connection. You can simply plug the cordless phone she is used to into it and she won't know the difference. She can make and receive calls as if it was connected to a landline.
My mother still likes it. She hasn't had any complaints, which is less anxiety for me.
@@FabiusMaximus1000 thanks I will have to keep working on my mom. the words save money isn't working. smh
@@Bobbi705 I understand. They are not quick to change old ways.
@@Bobbi705 haha had the same issue but since I basically help her set up everything including autopay for her CenturyLink account I just got this service and switch it with out here knowing and didn't even realize it till she noticed the box couple months later when cleaning and ask what as it and she was oh so that's why it's been working when it rains( every time it rain the CenturyLink went down maybe old wiring gets wet so stop working idk I have same problem at work when it rains our internet from CenturyLink goes down) but she likes it even told my aunts and they got it too
What if they don't have a phone number at all? How would you get a number to go with this? Will straight talk give you a number with the sim card???
You can set up a new account with Straight Talk and they will give you a number I believe?
We bought one from consumer cellular. Alot of calls can't get through...shrieks.
It says the USB input is for servicing only.
Can you choose how many rings it does before Voicemail;?
Sorry, I do not use this unit for voicemail. In my case I got my mother a Panasonic cordless phone with an answering machine built into the base. So all of the voicemail settings are controlled by the phone. That would be a question for Straight Talk.
@@FabiusMaximus1000 Thanks Dan... Smae situation here.. She wants the panasonic to be her answering machine but the ST device kicks to Voicemail after only 4 rings... tht is too fast for her since she walks slow
@@leweezo33 I just looked at the directions. Dial *86 and select "manage your personal options."
@@FabiusMaximus1000 Thank you so much Dan.. I am doing this with her from 100 miles away and I am sure you know how tough that can be... You just saved me lots of grief! Thanks again
@@leweezo33 Hope you got it? Thanks for watching!
Does a extension phone also will work or only the base phone?
If it's a cordless phone the other units should work just fine. You could also try lugging the cord into your house wiring to distribute the signal. I have not tried that yet.
Dan H Yes it’s a cordless phone ..Thank you very much!
There is another model from KonnectOne aka Moxee that is also available at Walmart. Model number for that unit is K500HPEL and it comes with a Tracfone (Straight Talk) Verizon SIM card but does have ATT and T-Mobile LTE bands.
@Michael Horgan
Thanks for confirming because I want the 🤗Verizon towers zte version & not the new Moxee T-mobile towers one at Walmart. I see moxee brand is on T-Mobile website they run on T-Mobile 😢
@@spreadlove8947 I purchased this model and set it up and outgoing calls as well as retrieving my messages works great however incoming calls goes strait to voicemail and phone does not ring in when calls come in. I've reset box and spent endless hours on phone with straight talk techs and no go...still no ringing in
THIS NO LONGER WORKS IN 2022.

I'm looking for land line phone that does not use any high tech crap. I really appreciate the video but it still is way too complicated for our older folks needs.
I determined for my purpose that a landline is a waste of money and my mother's phone line isn't working anyway. So for me this was the best solution. Good luck!
@@FabiusMaximus1000 Thanks Dan. We currently have landline service through Centurylink.net and the old style landline was a life saver when all power was lost during hurricane Florence. No cellular service was available for almost 4 days throughout the state. Thanks again.
@@houndsmanone4563 It is possible that landlines could be taken out by a storm but cellular left in tact. In fact that is why I went this route. My mother's landline just stopped working one day.
How do you keep same phone number???
You have to contact Straight Talk for that.
@@FabiusMaximus1000 ahh ok one more question. Since I want to keep same number, do you know if I cancel my current phone provider first before I set up straight talk or do I call straight talk first then cancel my old provider? Thanks in advance.
@@bryanterry7012 I would get the number ported over to Straight Talk first then cancel your old service.
My provider did all that for me. All I did was plug it in. When your new provider cancels your land line they give your number to the new provider.
Easy, we've had the same number for 30 years
Support God bless
You are welcome.
No those units were made by ZTE a Chinese company not Panasonic now banned from doing business with US telecom the earlier units were by Huawei until they got banned the later ones are made by MoXy and are identical to the ZTE still made in China though which I found hilarious on the part of the US government
I wanna try this but I’ll have to have all the features turned off
Sorry, I don't understand. You plug any regular touchtone phone into it and use that phone's features. This just sits there plugged into the wall.
Dan H features are called id, call waiting, etc
@@LadyHelm19 Those are the features of whatever phone you use and can probably be turned off or ignored?
I want to adopt you.
i have a hamburger phone which requires a landline so i need this

Even if you don't use a cell phone, you can't avoid the signals all around us.
Verizon here is awful. T-Mobile and AT&T is best in my area.

Yes it is but 6 years down the road you have to upgrade in other words buy another box online cause they dont sell them in the store.
