Battery lasts 8 HR. I actually took this in the car on a 4 hr trip to family funeral. I made calls in my CAR with the cordless phone, which also has a 10 hr battery life. Yes it actually worked in the car, driving !! Since this is an actual cell phone, if you take your set up in the hotel so when you're gone for days at a time you still have your HOME phone with you. Yes you take the whole set up, meaning you take the base, the cord, the cordless and its base; (I personally have a corded ATT small trim- line 210 push button in your hand-) corded phone; we took the whole set up all 3 pieces, the unit the cords and the trim-line, to the trip to funeral. Never missed a call on the home number, on an 8 days trip. Fun. Economical. Easy peasy. Old school. Cheap.

Their previous base set was terrific. It just kept working.
This one won't let me either make or receive calls to parts of the US like New Jersey or West Virginia with my "National" plan. It also keeps playing the "this number is not in service" shrieking sound for about 50% of calls to me. I spent HOURS on the phone with Straight Talk trying to get it to work. I'm looking for a different base set that will work with some other provider!

If there is already internet service at the address, and it's "broadband" or "high speed" with 5 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up then you can do MagicJack or Ooma. Ooma is a one-time $75 charge for the device you connect to a landline phone (cordless or corded) then you only pay taxes each month (in Nevada it would be $6/mo). Better than $15/mo. MagicJack os about $50/year. I use MagicJack but will be switching next year to Ooma.

This upgrade we had to do a year or so ago was really a downgrade. I would try another company. I've called the repair line at least 4 times over the problems I'm having with it. I'm always told the same thing to reset it and waste about an hour or so of my time doing so. The problem we are having with it is it makes a like a fax coming in sound when you answer it often, but not every time. After you do what they say to do it gets better but never stops all together. When that does happen, you can't talk on it. Have the person hang up and call you back. It keeps the voicemail going when I never wanted it activated in the first place. They said it was turned off, but it isn't. The paint has peeled off the thing and they will do nothing about it. They will try to change the subject on you if you say something about it too. All 3 people that I know are all having the same problem with it and I think the upgrade should be recalled.

Yea, AS OF SEPT 2022, this service no longer works and shame on Walmart for selling this still. The customer service sucks, you cant understand the representatives either. They pretend to help you then after 40 minutes they say they have to transfer you to someone else because they are not trained to help you with your problem.

I remember them land lines. I was a small boy and they got abused a lot dropping you name it. In the bay area it would rain a lot and I remember them shorting out the wiring getting wet. My dad spliced a lot of phone wires together so the phone would reach all over the house.

    hi
just wanted to add a friendly FYI. these base stations do not support Rotary (pulse dialing) phones. it is possible to use a pules to tone convertor though. just wanted to add that for any vintage phone enthusiast out there :-)
they do work very well with a basic corded touch tone (push button) desk or wall phone. as well as cordless phones .
    great video thanks for posting.

Yes for the most part it’s a dead Technology. But in your video you had said a plain old desk phone as you made the circle motion with your finger or hand along with The rotary dial sound .sorta implied to me that you meant a rotary phone would work on these.
I’m a collector of all things vintage LOL and I have a few rotary phones and I keep an eye out for any thing they will work other than a POTS line as most VOIPs don’t support it anymore. I commented about pulse not being supported because there are many vintage phone collectors out there and thought it would be helpful for anyone who came across your video.
I think that you made a great video. It has to the best one I’ve seen on you tube about these straight talk base stations :-) very informative

The two antennas that are connected to the back of this unit are currently horizontal I’m wondering do these antennas adjust by tilting upward at any degree or do they simply stay horizontal being visually impaired I’m not quite sure I would like some advice

I had the same problem with my parent's phone as well. I called and it took about 3 hours but the customer service manager eventually got in contact with Verizon (we have Verizon towers in my area) the issue was resolved. However, her caller ID doesn't work it doesn't show the name or number calling in, you have to dial the full phone number with area code to make a call, and it makes beeping noises as well at times. I'm going to try to get these issues resolved soon.

I currently have Verizon home connect wireless home phone base and had it for years, unfortunately it's 3G technology n plan shut down 3g towers after Dec 2020, they have new one "Home Connect" with 4g but have bad reviews and will not allow the caller ID to work on our home phones so I am looking at finding a replacement. Just not sure if this will work with 4 or 5G, not sure what ZTE is? Just don't want to buy something that's going to be obsolete come January, my Verizon home connect has been having difficulty for over a year and thought it was my old AT&T base with 7 extension phones that are 18 yrs old but thought wow it might be Verizon, so glad I called Verizon as I also bought new phones! They told me my box would not work @ all soon, and I said well being a customer I would think you would be letting me know this as we are in November! Anyway just not sure but think I may need to call Straight talk n see if it is 3G! Thanks for a great video!

No, tt doesnt work if you plug it into the wall jack. My provider lied to me about this BEFORE I bought it. Outgoing calls work but it doesnt ring on incoming calls. I am going to try crossing the wires on the rj11 cable to see if that works. Update:crossing wires didn't work either. Ended up not being able to make outbound callse either. Basically if you think you can connect this to your home phone wiring, it won't work. I wish they had more qualified people at Rogers Telecom. False advertising. I want my money back. What a scam.

I never tried it with this phone but I did with another service so I would think you could plug this into your wiring jack in the wall and plug your phones into the jacks in other rooms. Basically you would be using the wiring in your house as a hub or splitter. I cannot guarantee this will work but this machine is a great value even if you have to buy a new cordless system to have phones in other rooms. If it's a cordless phone the other units should work just fine. You could also try lugging the cord into your house wiring to distribute the signal. I have not tried that yet.
