Most advanced payments have gone up massively. I did find a car that I was happy with that had a £499 advanced payment but I had to forego the car that I actually wanted. Two weeks after placing the order, I received and email from Motability advising that I would be receiving a £750 new car payment. I'd never heard of this and it was never mentioned during the order process. If I had been informed about this, I could have considered my first choice. Very disappointing.
That is very disappointing in your case. I had never heard of this either. Great video, thank you! How does insurance, tax and MoT work on Mobility? Like do you have to do it yourself or is it with specific companies?
Glad to help. Insurance is by Direct Line. They are a separate company working with Motability. Your insurance and road tax are covered by the monthly outgoing payment you pay while on the scheme. On a typical 3 year lease you will not have to worry about an MOT as new cars do not require one within that time period. Services are done once a year by the manufacturer. I believe I speak briefly about this in my "Why You Should Use The Motability Scheme" video. I hope this helps 👍
Hi thanks for the video, can I ask how you got to keep your car for 6 years, my understanding is the longest you can keep it for is 5 years unless it is a WAV or you are having to keep it until the car you have ordered is taking you beyond your due date.
Hi John, I can't remember the exact name but, after the 5 year period, Motability have given me a few "Emergency Extensions". Each lasts for 6 months, they're for exceptional circumstances.
In my case it's because I drive a Mercedes, all their cars have a very specific gear set up which makes the car extremely practical to drive for me (with Cerebral Palsy affecting the left side of my body), Mercedes are no longer on the scheme, and there is nothing I can feasibly afford on the scheme that is as easy/practical to drive. I have my (very optimistic) fingers crossed for tomorrow lol
have just received a Citroen c3 on mobility went in on October 19th 2022 test drove ordered choose colour was told then i would get money 750 pounds when i got the car fast forward feb 2023 phone call what number plate would i like 24 hours later i was on the road 24 hours later 750 pounds in my bank but this was for my daughter today 3 5 23 I'm going to Vauxhall to choose a mokka auto for myself have already been told its going to take 8 months for me to wait its has been awesome experience so far ill let you know how i get on today

Impossible for me to get a motabilty car that can take a hoist for an electric wheelchair.
I'm not so knowledgeable in this area, sorry. I looked on the Motability website and saw that they offer ramps and lifts for their Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, I am not sure how similar these are in terms of practicality to using hoists.

New vehicles are likely to be added to the scheme very soon, on April 1st (the start of a new quarter), so it may be a good idea to check the site after then too 👍
