Why is this Lawn Turning Brown?

- Why is this lawn turning brown? There are many reasons a lawn may turn brown including lack of water, insects like armyworms or chinchbugs, herbicide damage, or even frost damage. In this situation this bermuda lawn is brown because it was too tall and then cut too short. To fix this problem, the lawn would need to be cut more often and/or raise the cutting height. Mowing in the evening time may also be helpful.

Northern Louisiana lawn here ... my lawn improved when I cut it short in early spring and gradually raised the mower deck so it was at maximum height by end of July through September. At least this has worked for me.
That's what I do with my Bermuda grass
Heat Stress. T has been extremelly hot in GA during June-July. Water and frequent mowing will take quick care of this problem.
I agree 100%
Use a reel mower when your scalping from that height. Cut it to 4” with the rotary than take it down again to 2-3” with the reel so it doesn’t burn the crowns
That grass also turns brown in the winter time.. it goes dormant
True
zoshia grass? and or lawn fungus
When I don’t water the lawn and we get a real hot day the grass burns up sometimes cause there’s no shade here
A fungus may not grow in straight lines but if the tires were not washed off after mowing a lawn with a fungus you can bring it over on your tires
Question, I have about 200 Lawn clients and I have always thought that dead lines were just the grass being laid down by the wheel when it’s going dormant and just doesn’t have the strength to stand back up. I also don’t cut below 3.75 and generally those spots are on clients who don’t water either.
Thanks was wondering and what you said is exactly what our landlord does to our yard. Up setting
Thank you!
Not enough context man. What time of year is it? Where are you? How has the weather been? Do they have irrigation? Do they use a lawn fertilizer service? Details man details
That is partly from the mower, but also from lack of water. It’s trauma from being squished by the wheels after severe heat and drought.
Nah think of that blade as a friction machine. Rotary mowers burn lawns. If they are cut at 4” to 3-3.5” it will recover in two days but cut from 4” to 2” will burn it all.
My neighbor is a classic scalper.
The grass is always yellow were I live and my mom kept on it mowing every day. It look really bad since no grass was growing
I'M LEANING TOWARDS THE WEED MAN MISTAKEN MY YARD FOR HIS AND SPRAYED IT😂😂 JUST KIDDING GREAT ADVICE THANKS SOLDIER.
I mow my lawn for the honey bees . I set it on 4 for the early summer but will raise it to 5 when it get hot and dry . Bad news is be carful walking across my lawn because it is full of clover and honey bees .
Thanks for the tip
👍
Because of the lack of rain.
It needs more irrigation
Nope it's grass too tall I'm out here in the Midwest where trees and grass love the humidity. If you don't cut your grass in 2 weeks your grass will be 8 inches tall and when you cut it to 3, it turns like this because the grass is in shock. It will take time to regain the green color
No matter how you mow it, without rain or watering it gets brown quickly. It’s a plush grass so don’t mow it under 4”.
So how could we fix that problem?
the problem is overgrowth. you need to cut your lawn weekly. and that problem will be eliminated.. when grass grows long. the base of the plant doesnt get sunshine. and it ends up turning brown. when you cut the grass. you expose the brown part. and that is how it will look
It needs rain.
This happens to my lawn too. Weird but after a few days after I cut it this happens in certain areas.
Always apply thé 1/3 rule. Never cut more than 1/3.
You want a dense grass, not too short. Also sharp blades!
Some grasses go to sleep, bentgrass is king all year very beautiful looking blades
I think you're probably correct but those lines also look like train field piping distance and length is that located over the septic system drain field just wondering
I disagree. I think you should lower the deck all the way. Cut the Bermuda. Aerate and then overseed with Fescue. No one needs Bermuda 🤣
You're crazy! Bermuda is the best! Lol. But yes, definitely aerate for sure.
Yeah Bermuda trash
@@bobby21719 Don't be upset if you can't have a putting green yard. There are lots of UA-cam videos that will show you how to get one.
TTTF
@@coryCuc you’re right! I was discouraged at first so I switched my lawn to finely rolled bails of hay.
Man U sound like my boss and I hate it cuz at the end of his speech we gotta do all the work 😂😂
😂😂😂 do you do the work for for free? 😊😊😊
Yep, too lower cut, during too colder weather...
This is exactly what happened to our bermuda lawn. It was cut too short and now it turned brown. What should we do? Any advice on how often we need to water? Is it a good idea to add fertilizer?
It likely will come back. Just might take a few weeks. Water heavily once per week
Scalping and under-watering
Lack of mowing frequency and height of cut
Not enough rain/ mower damage. Blades Set to low
That’s not from a lawn mower. That’s ridiculous. That lawn is not scalped. The brown everywhere I’m sure has a little to do with mowing, but it’s not the main cause of all that brown. That lawn has a handful of issues that are causing the brown. Not just mowing.
A dull blade will cause it, too. People need to inspect their lawn mower blade to ensure it is sharp. A dull blade tears the grass instead of cutting it cleanly.
Also happens due to inconsistent fertilization throw, known as zebra stripes
Excellent explanation. This helped me on my cool season grass. I went from 3 inches to 1/2 inch in less than a week. Shocked it for about a month.
I imagine that would put the grass in shock
Happened to me
Mines is a combination of both.. Burnt and cutting too low 😂😂😂
What are you talking about
Every season mow off dead off an remove those clippings fertilize an water . Remember dead dormant grass delays new grass growth
my prediction is Army worms are going to be early and plentiful this year.combine that with an early drought and the sod farms will be overwhelmed next year.
Yes last summer they were bad and destroying lawns.
I would try fertilizer
Use grass paint and never have to worry about brown ass I mean grass again…we’ll until you have to paint it again
At a certain point though you'd be better buying artificial
No rain
Let me guess neglecting the water
No? He just said the reason in the video.
@@kattihatt that brown grass is atleast 2 1/2 inches high that's the brown in his lawn. I suspect that grass had lack of water pryer to cutting. The taller grass is root driven and he cut it high. That's why it's green. There's no irrigation there. And that exposes the sun to the roots and kills it. Like I said. Lack of water. Last point I'd like to make. Unless he's mowing with a multiple head golf course lawn flail mower it's not going to cut uneven on one pass like that. The cut would be the same height on a regular mower. That's 2 mow jobs. The owner and his. Bamuda grass is cut at 11/2 inches.
Customers love hearing its their fault, especially when its their mowing
That’s just summer time natural response to lack of water . Grass is not dead . Roots are alive and it will green up in fall. Best to leave it alone and not to water it .
Mow higher and different directions will help as well.
Noooo. Mow lower. Bermuda loves being cut low. Get that Bermuda growing laterally lol.
That green hit
Maybe it’s because you cut it to short 2-4 inches is the best height your grass will need to live
What about no rain
This exactly what happened to my lawn after it was cut. How can this be fixed?
aerate, fertilize, water
Cut too short on a hot sunny day
Thank U🥰
bermuda is like an iceberg lol I hate when customers call me for an overgrown bermuda and want me to cut 6 inches off it. I tell them your lawn will look dead af
Does it come back if you do?
@@ronmcintyre9290 yes
It's brown because they are trying to kill the weed that is Bermuda grass 😂
um no thats not from the lawn mower look at the patches its no green smh
Thatch
aint nuthin a lil green paint cant fix
This dude is clueless.
Wrong business buddy.
Hopefully I'll be able to find success in another business
@@lawncarelife nah. Stay scamming innocent people and you’ll do just fine in lawn care. No need to switch jobs.
Just curious as to what you think caused that lawn to be brown?
@@lawncarelife heat and lack of water. Definitely not the mower. Haha!!
Bermuda grass is just weird
It’s the best grass.
Cut to close and lack of water ...
Fungus
Those people's dogs sure pee alot
it’s water youre wrong
I'm not saying water is not a factor but I am not wrong on this one. Seen it many many many times in a Bermuda grass lawn. Not sure what type of grass you deal with regularly

The grass just became woke?
